5 1/2 hours. Though Iowa pig-* country.

They'd better have some dam good beef when I get there.

Iowa isn't that bad. Nice rolling hills and pretty to look at.

Western Nebraska is the killer. Nothing but scrubland and expressway.

That's like Pennsylvania on I-80 between Ohio and New Jersey. Trees. And more trees. And trees after that. We went over a bridge. I figured there would be a lake or a stream about 200 feet below us. Nope. Just trees. Through the mountains. Trees. For God's sake the only thing I could think of was The Waltons.

You just described the UP. Exception for the mountains. :p

You could gain five pounds and still be in ridiculous shape. :p
So could I... :o

Burn Notice is a great show.
Yes. USA original programming >>>>....>>>> anything on network TV.
Reminds me of how I got some interesting looks at work today. I was in a rush making mashed potatoes (steamer wasn't working well and the potatoes weren't 100% cooked, but brunch was about to start), when I finally got them done the guys were glad that I was able to make it work and my comment was something along the lines of "I just had to whip them into submission"...
The look on their faces was priceless :o :D
Your potatoes whip themselves, if they know what's good for them.

Evening, Lodge. Tried making my own popcorn on the stove tonight, and ended up burning it. Oh well.

And the next time a manager expects me to have price changes for the entire store done before close, they'll be laughed at and ignored.

.

And I'm looking forward to a hockey trip to Omaha one of these years too... get some good steak down there. :)

Monster: Bell's, Atwater Block, KBC, the list goes on and on. :D
See, now this is why you guys should take in the occasional MTU football game on the road. ;) Ferris takes on MTU in Grand Rapids at Fifth/Third Ballpark this year, means you all could make a stop at Founders. ;)

How far away drive is that Parise-forsaken place?
To West Texas A&M? from my house, roughly 20 and a half hours. :o

Beats Deliverance. *Dualing Banjo's play*

If that's a downstate MI crack, you're in trouble...

Hello Lodge.

The holiday weekend was fun.

The Twins game went 16 innings and I was at the dome until 12:30, luckily I wasn't planning on going drinking after the game, or I'd wouldn't have been happy.:p

I golfed yesterday morning, and played absolutely terrible, I got the s-words and everything went straight right, very frustrating. Fireworks and a couple drinks in the evening, overall, a pretty fun day.

Golfed again this afternoon, hit 3 buckets on the range beforehand, trying to fix my swing and I actually got it sorted out, which felt good. I ended up playing a pretty good round, including absolutely killing my driver, 300yds+ with a slight draw all day, perfect. Even drove a par 4 green.

Start my new job tomorrow, but I have a feeling that for the first couple of days, I'll end up still winding down some stuff from my old job.

Well, sure, but this IS Omaha. What do they have there? A big church or five, a couple cattle ranches, and an arena/college? Whee. I wouldn't expect much. ;)
I'd actually look forward to checking out some big scale beef operations down around Omaha. Not so much a ranch, but get a look at some of the huge feedlots they have down there, I've heard that they are mighty impressive.

You smell one cow barn, you've smelled them all.

It's Omaha. What you have in trees, they have in flatland. :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

Just got into Duluth, probably here until noonish tomorrow.

Ya know, if you keep going on 80 west of Omaha to Lincoln, you may find a Melissa Harrington at some bar;)

I take your Cake, and I up you one.

http://www.geekologie.com/2009/04/why_didnt_i_think_of_that_baco.php

arguably SFW?

Actually, I'll up you a pair... er... two.

http://www.geekologie.com/2009/01/highly_questionable_the_bacon.php

probably NSFW.

Welcome to last year. :p

And I'll mention a quote, with the word "sex" substituted by the word "bacon," from a friend when he was first hearing all of the urban dictionary terms that we bandy about:

"I hear about these things, and maybe some are great, they're definitely creative, but I guess I never got bored with some plain ol' bacon."

:D

Iowa, eastern Nebraska, all of non-Chicago Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio are pretty much the same: endless farmland, desolate, and the occasional clump of trees. As Twitch said, western Nebraska manages to be even worse, as you don't even have farmland out there - it's just empty dry crap land. Same thing in northeastern Colorado as well - although eventually you can see the mountains (but you have to drive into Colorado quite a ways before that happens).

So, the question is:

North Dakota > Nebraska for scenery? Or vice versa? I can't say South Dakota, because at least they have the Badlands and Mt Rushmore.
