Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

I think I'm begining to realize just how much I missed out on growing up, with my parents not getting me a NES and whatnot. :o :o

You didn't miss out on a thing. You did other stuff instead. My guess is the gamers are the ones who missed out

You also left off Battle Zone, you America-hating nazi bastard!!!!!

What was the game where you turned a dial and it moved you around the perimeter of a circle so you could fire inward tat the things moving outward from the center to attack you?

That was Tempest. I loved that game.

Tempest. Brent posted about it already.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 77: Arcade Games of the Reagan 80s

Am I the only one who grew up with Colecovision instead of Atari? :p
I think you were. I had forgotten all about Colecovision. When in 7th grade (1982-83), my class did a stock market exercise where you invest $1,000 in any stock(s) you wanted, and tracked your progress for a month. I chose Merrill Lynch because I liked the bull logo, but the kid who chose Coleco (Matt Haas - a hyper kid in the days before Ritalin) won the contest hands down. They had just released Colecovision (and I think he had insider-trading info, and should've gone to jail).
PacMan for me.

And how could anyone forget:

Dragon's Lair
Double Dragon
Pole Position (I and II)
Tron
Operation Wolf

and that submarine game, where you had a periscope you had to look through!
Dragon's Lair was something brand new at the time, with the animated scenes. Quite cool. I remember the sub game, too, but not the name.
You also left off Battle Zone, you America-hating nazi bastard!!!!!
Battle Zone was a great tank game, with green line graphics on a black screen, and - the inaccuracy of your ad hominem attack aside - you forgot to capitalize Nazi, you nazi bastard!

This pole sucks. :p

that's cause you're like 10 years old and don't remember the classics. :p

Pole is missing the following:

- Outrun (the first video game I ever played, at a service center on the way to Cedar Point)
- After Burner/After Burner II
- Hang-On/Super Hang-On (yes, I'm a Sega fanboy, how'd you ever guess?)
- Robotron 2084
- Paperboy
- Marble Madness
- Roadblasters
- TMNT: the Arcade Game (this was the sole reason we went to Chuck E. Cheese)
- Bubble Bobble
- Gauntlet

And if I can get permission to leave the 80's...

- Dance Dance Revolution
- Crazy Taxi
- Cruis'n USA/World/Exotica
- San Francisco Rush
- Time Crisis
- House of the Dead
- Hydro Thunder (EVERY frigging arcade has one of these it seems)
- NBA Jam
- NFL Blitz

God, I miss arcades.

I still miss playing Mortal Kombat 1/2/3/UMK3. I knew the fatalities for like 4 or 5 different people, plus the friendships, the animalities in later years, and the babalities. And all the pit fatalities.

Another true classic was Arkanoid. My dad and I would play that all the time at the grocery store. We would win too! :D

Lethal Enforcers was a lot of fun, there was one of those at the Burnsville Ice Arena...not sure if it is there anymore.

the other game that is really awesome is bubble hockey. But not just any bubble hockey. No, this is bubble hockey USA vs. CCCP!

Elf needs food!

My brothers grew up with an Intellivision. I never once played a game on it. The first game I ever remember playing was Excite Bike on a NES in my living room.

No, it's all about budgeting time. I grew up spending a lot of time doing stuff outdoors. I also happened to spend some time playing a few video games. Thankfully, back then games weren't as involved as they are now. You could put in a half-hour, had a good time, and go on to do whatever else without "losing" anything.

People who play Frisbee across bike path, even on July 4th, are prime candidates for the Darwin Award. That is all.

No love for Defender? I am surprised. We had a Defender and a Centipede game at the Food Town in Hartland, Michigan when I was a kid. I didn't like the roller ball controller for Centipede, so I played Defender.

Thunderstorms just rolled thru, another day another inch of rain. Keeping me from getting my slab ready to pour. So I'm drinking rum and Pepsi Throwback, mighty tasty

Time for me to fly. We're bringing one of our medevac helicopters to Earth, TX for their 4th of July parade and barbeque. They told us to come hungry.

Too bad we can't enjoy the beer, too!

Happy Independence Day to everyone.

30 by 34 shop, place to get a vehicle into out of the cold and a place for my tools. Going to try and use solar to keep it from freezing, we'll see how it works

Knowing how shops go, you might as well make it 30 by 35. ;)

Evening, Lodge! Hope you're having a fun 4th of July!

Nice poll. Suddenly I'm in the mood to play Space Invaders.
