Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I automatically mark down any airport where you have to take a **** train from terminal to terminal, hate that.

Some aspects I rate airports for:
Security
Convenience/layout
Food variety, selection, and abundance
Beer/drink selection and availability
Likelihood and management of delays

The only one of those that MSP sucks at is security. The rest are an "A". As opposed to Atlanta (where I was on Sunday) which passed security with an A, but came up short in all others, and very short in some. On the entire half of the terminal our gate was in, there were 2 bar/restaurants. One was a smoking lounge (no way). The other didn't have an open seat the entire time we were there, and we were sitting at our gate across from it for about 2 hours. That is terrible selection. Also, tried Gordon Biersch, at the center of the terminal, and the wait for a seat was 20 people deep.

Bills for the month are all paid. This was money earmarked for savings or extra payments on bills (or for fun things like restaurants)

As long as you're paying your bills, and you have budget for fun things. Have at it. Like you said, you only live once.

The story I've heard about ATL is if everything is running smoothly and on time, it's the best airport ever. However, one delay and everything comes unglued.

Yeah, we sat on the tarmac for 2 hours on Sunday...BEFORE the storm rolled through the pilot told us we were 25th for takeoff. After...well, it sucked. Luckily, Delta is doing stuff right these days. We had the free entertainment system in our seats, so we just sat there and watched movies. We were in economy comfort, so had legroom, and they kept the AC up high. Overall, it could have been much, much worse.

Ummm. So in a profoundly financially irresponsible decision, I procured 2 dugout seats for the Pearl Jam concert at Fenway this evening. (Note, we are going to the 10 Club Party on Saturday at the House of Blues with the band and to the show on Sunday at Fenway as well.)

Aaaaand an oncoming migraine. Yay.

Agreed on the above. There's a reason I didn't mind ordering a $60/oz 32YO scotch on the Houghton trip, among other things. When I'm on vacation, I make it rain. :D

Renewed my lease today, and true to the awesome policy they have, since I've lived here for 10 years, rent doesn't change. I'm locked in at this price. Of course, the policy COULD change in the future, but it's been in place since I moved in, so I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

Got a FOAD email for the job I wanted. Lovely. Not even an interview.

I'll say this. If they're not even going to give me an interview, the resumes for interview candidates they selected better be gold ****ing plated.

This was a complete sh-t f-ck of a day.

My top three all time:

1) PDX
2) DTW
3) DEN

I like MSP, but I always get stuck at one of the outer terminals so I don't really get to see it. Same with SEA.

ORD hates me. It just does. Unless I'm in the main terminal with the T-rex.

ANC is small but sneaky good.
I can't rate SEA because it's almost a second home (probably 75% of Alaskans know SEA like the back of their hand).

MSP is ok but I haven't been through in years.

LAS is kinda weird. An airport with slots and croupiers can be a bit jarring.

PDX sucks, much like Portland itself. (Insert deity) help you if there's a crosswind.

LAX sucks. Should we have one large terminal that allows to easily connect to flights? * no! Let's have a bunch separate terminals! Also it's so freaking large taxiing takes 10 minutes!

PHX is hot. Like "please please close your window shades so the plane doesn't feel like the 7th level of hell" hot.

HNL is a pain. Had fun going through that TSA line? We're gonna add another agricultural line!

ANC is home and I work there so I can't comment on it.

Good Morning Lodge!

Streaming the olympics. Gymnastics without all the stupid filler stuff or ads. Ya baby!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I like DTW and DEN. MSP, SEA, and BDL are nice enough. PWM was cool because the project manager knew a sneaky back entrance on the top floor of the parking deck that was right at security, so he dropped me off there. I breezed through, went down the escalator, and my gate was literally right there (which was good because they had just started boarding). SAV would've been nicer if the Toilet Seat Administration had their sh*t together - sometimes that laid back Southern attitude is annoying. ATL is OK, it's just very busy. ORD could be better, but could also be a lot worse. PHL is alright, about the same as ORD.

DFW, it depends on what terminal you're in - Terminal D is pretty slick and modern. I just refuse to make any connections through there anymore, because I've had three weather delays/cancellations trying to go through there. In the summer they get the storms, and in the winter they get the ice. Just a bad location for weather problems.

LGA is a pit. Fark that place. And BOS is not much better. For the most part, the airports I like the least are the ones where you have to leave security to move between the domestic terminals/concourses.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #186: Summer Heat

I enjoy being able to fly out of TPA regularly, as security is generally very efficient and quick. Plus, cigar city has a brewpub right in terminal C (southwest/frontier). They're in the midst of quite a bit of construction right now, but I don't know the specifics.

Basically all the NYC area airports are terrible, LGA/JFK/EWR. ATL, while busy, isn't on my worst airports list. Lots to do/eat/drink, and laud out fairly well.

I'm excited to see how AMS is when I fly to Ireland in November, as we connect there to and from.

LGA and DCA are the same way. They are scheduled for a perfect day where everything goes smoothly. Those days don't exist.

I had two that returned to the gate and cancelled because of that. ATL is one of the better airports at handling WX, though.

IND is a decent airport for it's size. I wouldn't want to get stuck there for an extended period of time though. CLT is a pretty nice airport as well.
