I get headaches, and have since I was a teenager. Thought they were related mostly to lack of sleep, but figured out it was more hormonal. I've always wanted to see a doctor in the midst of one so they could do something....take blood, monitor blood pressure, something. But I could never get an immediate appointment. I do not believe they're migraines, but they're migraine-ish. And they last for about 3-days on and off. They usually start behind one of my eyes. And, like Hammer, usually sleep is the one thing that helps the most. A few years back, at one of my yearly physicals, I asked my doctor if there was anything she could do. She prescribed Imitrex. It has helped quite a bit. I try and only take one in a 24-hour time frame and I now alternate with Excedrin Migraine. Over the past five years or so, I've tended to wake up with headaches, like at 4am. I try not to take anything till about 6am. I woke with a splitting headache this morning, not one of my usual ones. Took the Excedrin and got an ice pack out of the freezer to put on my forehead. Took about an hour to settle down. I think this one was a stress headache.
I keep hearing how caffeine is not good, though when I have a headache in the morning, once I've had coffee and food, I tend to feel better. Or chocolate. I was in the midst of one at work and got a hot fudge sundae and felt better afterwards.
