You're a skinny guy, apnea would be surprising. It's not unheard of, but it's not common. Have you been told that you snore a lot when you sleep? If not, it would be, well, shocking to hear that you have OSA.

I snore like a mofo. Part genes, part back problems.

Good Morning Lodge.

I think my home AC needs a refrigerant charge. Running but not doing much, right when we are gonna get some actual hot weather. Of course. Now to see if I can get a mechanic out today to add a charge. That should be easy on a 95 degree day with heat index over 100, right?

Sorry to hear about the migraines. I get headaches that are pretty bad, but nothing like that. Mine often seem related to gluten consumption, but not always. Still trying to figure out what this other trigger is, happened last night and am pretty sure I had no gluten yesterday.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Another long day at work ahead of me. The shortest day was 8.5 hours as I had to leave so I could witness the Twins win a game.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Thanks.

You have pretty much summed up what my doc has been telling me.

Like Hammer.......migraines get so intense I feel like I'm going to get sick (haven't yet....knocks on wood) feels like a screwdriver being driven right between the eyes. The sound of my own breathing (let alone anything else) is extremely loud and multiplies the pain. Any sort of light adds to the intensity. They almost always knock me out. 20 minutes of sleep and I am good to go but I am groggy/foggy for quite some time afterwards. Getting one every three to four days since end of March is starting to wear me out.

Edit. Mookie........viagara........ditto.

Edit x2. Maybe a prescription to weed is the ticket. :)

Chronic migraines are awful. I had one for about 3 months when lil was lil. Every day. Miserable. They started getting better when I went to the chiropractor for a back problem and he treated my neck too. I realized they had improved considerably at some point during treatment. Not as bad now I have passed into the phase of life where I have personal summers rather than PMS. At one point I couldn't eat chocolate at all. No one should have to avoid chocolate. I still can't drink any alcohol (shouldn't have to avoid that either ) Hate the duh feeling. The harder you try to think the more your head hurts. Blech!

Good Morning Lodge!

I actually have the A/C on.

Mornin', Lodge. Unpleasant day of work ahead, given the weather, then afterwards meeting with Biddco and another buddy for a brewski at the local taproom. They have a new beer that sounds wonderful: pineapple Belgian. Should taste great on a hot day.

Me too, but it ain't doing much. Found a mechanic to come out this AM. Jr is home and it should just be adding charge to the unit, hopefully he doesn't rip me off too badly. I'd like to able to sleep at night for the weekend, and I can't do it if I'm sweating heavily.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

I get headaches, and have since I was a teenager. Thought they were related mostly to lack of sleep, but figured out it was more hormonal. I've always wanted to see a doctor in the midst of one so they could do something....take blood, monitor blood pressure, something. But I could never get an immediate appointment. I do not believe they're migraines, but they're migraine-ish. And they last for about 3-days on and off. They usually start behind one of my eyes. And, like Hammer, usually sleep is the one thing that helps the most. A few years back, at one of my yearly physicals, I asked my doctor if there was anything she could do. She prescribed Imitrex. It has helped quite a bit. I try and only take one in a 24-hour time frame and I now alternate with Excedrin Migraine. Over the past five years or so, I've tended to wake up with headaches, like at 4am. I try not to take anything till about 6am. I woke with a splitting headache this morning, not one of my usual ones. Took the Excedrin and got an ice pack out of the freezer to put on my forehead. Took about an hour to settle down. I think this one was a stress headache.

I keep hearing how caffeine is not good, though when I have a headache in the morning, once I've had coffee and food, I tend to feel better. Or chocolate. I was in the midst of one at work and got a hot fudge sundae and felt better afterwards.

I've noticed that there is very little change in BP when I get mine.

Mine's been on for 3 weeks. If it is cool enough, it just doesn't turn on. It gets hot, I don't have to worry about coming home to a hot house.

Also, Surly had a pineapple Belgian a few weeks back, Where Strides the Bromeliad, it was crazy good. The style works well.

All these posts about medical issues...I guess I'm pretty lucky, only issue I ever have is I occasionally get the ****s when I eat greasy food.

If you have had sx for years that haven't changed a migraine dx is based on history. No physical exam or labs will prove it is a migraine. They are used to rule out something else if sx have changed or become debilitating. (exception- change in character after yrs of same sx.) One of the things they teach us is if someone has migraines just about every HA they have will be a migraine with the difference only being the severity. A migraine is a migraine, is a migraine. Imitrex won't help anything but a migraine. Excedrin Migraine works because aspirin decreases the inflammation and caffiene constricts the vessels. Same with chocolate. Caffiene can trigger HA because it is a stimulant but it can be a treatment if you take it at onset (one of the folk remedies is a coke and monster doses of Ibuprofen- it works for a lot of people).

Biggest mistake people make when treating migraines is to wait to take something. The longer you wait, the more inflammation and nerve irritation occurs. This was one of those aha! moments when I was at that seminar. I used to wait to see if it was going to get bad before I tried to take something. That meant when I finally took something, it would get it to a dull roar and then rebound back so I would have a HA on and off for 2-3 days. Now I run for the med because if I take it soon enough it will abort the HA and only leave me with that stupid feeling.
