Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

My parents said they would meet us halfway with regards to tuition. I did get financial aid and took out a loan and that took care of 1st semester, my folks paid second semester, so that gave me another year to save money. I had already been saving so that helped. I did take out loans all four years, but they were under $2500/year. That was the max I was allowed and I had to apply and they told me what they would give me. I was the only one of my siblings that took out loans. My older brother was a miser (heh) and was able to save enough to pay for half his tuition. By the time my younger brother went to school, it was like he was an only child and he wasn't eligible to get financial aid. But his school had a monthly installment plan for tuition payment. I still think my parents wound up paying for most of it. As I was living at home after graduation, my parents asked for room and board. However, after my older brother bought a condo and moved out, they told me that since I was the only one paying back a student loan, they would defer my room and board till I was done paying off the loans. Which was unnecessary, but I think they felt a little guilty that I was the only one paying loans. I was done in November and for my birthday in October that year, my mother wrote in my card "Happy birthday! You don't have to start paying board till January!" Ha! I wasn't aware she was even paying attention to my last loan payment. :)

Went to lunch with some high school/college friends and their friends/relatives. One of the younger brothers of one of my classmates is a slumlord (drives a Maserati or an Aston Martin, leaves the classic Corvette home - seems to be doing OK) offered Jr a job painting some his appartments. I remember back in high school this guy's dad used to hire my classmates to do work on his appartments also.

BTW, I saw a car with North Dakota plates driving very slowly on Haines Point. I even passed him on my bike. He must never have seen a small tree bending in the wind before. :)

There's a car in my park & ride's parking lot that has an RPI Alum sticker along with an MTU sticker. It's the world's daily reminder on my way to work for me to log into USCHO.

I went to BSU. I had no financial help from my parents (aside from my dad co signing on a house). I was enrolled full time and I worked about 32 hours a week. My Junior year I had three roommates in my house that paid rent. Graduated with no debt and had money in my savings account.

Got some good news. Pedro (my former truck driver/loader) is up, and walking and talking. Sounds like a full recovery will happen. Doubt he'll be able to come back, but I guess there's always hope. The current guy is really good, thankfully.

I took about a 6 week break or so from the Lodge. I haven't read back at all so I'm not sure what happened but good news!

He had a heart attack while driving the truck. The original prognosis was not good at all. He's this tiny Cuban in his 50s who is always smiling and laughing and awesome to work with. Total workhorse, too. One of the best drivers I've worked with, frankly.

That's amazing news, considering the original prognosis. :)

Good morning Lodge.

What does a ground hog eat? Take a small piece of sponge and wrap its favorite food around it. Sponge will lodge in the throat and it will die.

You are welcome. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Awkward day today. Have had 2 days off, so have been in day mode. Now, I am working tonight before having 2 more days off. Unfortunately, it's also a workout day ("running" Couch to 5K -- it's more like jogging/fast walking), so I slept, then chilled, now I'm supposed to go back to bed to sleep for some of the time between 12-330 before I get up to go to a 5pm meeting and then work 7p-7a. All sorts of weird. Fortunately, I don't have anything else to do today -- I made a 3 layer chocolate cake with salted caramel butter cream between the layers and frosted with chocolate swiss buttercream yesterday for the dinner party we're going to tomorrow.
