How was Alex, Parkers, Ida, Christopherson's, shooting?
Congrats on the graduation.
You're just going to run it, though, right? As in outsource actually functioning it? Or are you going to be Farmer bbdl?
It's funny how camping has evolved for me/g family over the years. For most of my life I tented it and definitely earned my stripes. Now we have a rv. Today it has been storming and pouring rain and such. We have been holed up in the rv since early this morning. Climate controlled comfort. After the boys read they put in a dvd (Miracle) and we made some popcorn in the microwave. Meanwhile, I am cooking some tasty beef in the smoker.
Career change?I'll farm it myself. Can't find good enough help to not be there all the time.
In like 10-15 years. Just needed to make the decision sooner rather than later, so my dad can manage the business like it will be continuing on, and not like it is going to be sold, or dissolved.Career change?
That makes sense. Probably good for both of you to have a plan in place so that either can react appropriately as needed. In like 10-15 years. You're a lot smarter than Brent says you are!![]()
Not sure about whether or not his dad's farm has livestock or not, but he would be perfectly set up to make a ton of hockey road trips I believe!Yes, plan ahead!
And I've said multiple times that in bbdl's current career, I think he could go as far as he desires to go. It just sort of surprises me that despite the eden of no neighbors/countryside, he'd actually choose to farm, given the amount of work involved. It's not an easy gig.
Checking in, Lodge. Pleasant few days off that included lots of BBQ and Beer.Back to the grind with shifts on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights. Designated Driver duty on Tuesday as I was planning on staying on night shift mode anyway and tcbg is attending a bachelor party at a local steakhouse (Gibber for those of you HE fans). Sounds tame, but last time it was there it was 6 courses with bourbon pairings.
Get home from work around 830am on Friday, then workout, shower, and get off to the airport to fly to Baltimore for my cousin's wedding on Saturday night, then back on Sunday afternoon and back to work Monday night. Biggest hopes are to spend time with my grandmother -- she's had several 90th birthdays (pretty sure she's going to be 92 in October and still a hoot. Still drinks several "martinis" (straight Grey Goose with some ice in it) and smokes about a pack a day) and to get a milkshake at BWI (there is great diner in the airport).
I thought summer was supposed to be relaxing?

That's awesome though, dl. My grandpa and uncle are still farming, and I know my uncle will take over the majority of it, but I've considered getting into it as well at some point. Grandpa is 71 now but he won't retire until he literally can't do it physically anymore.
Plan is for the livestock to be gone after this summer.
Modern farming is more about smarts than hard work. Agronomy, business management, commodities marketing, real estate investing, all important to success. Gone are the days when you just work hard and can succeed. At the same time, without livestock, it isn't nearly as much work as it used to be. We plant 24 rows at a time, can do hundreds of acres a day. Combine 12 rows or 30 feet at a time. Tractors, combine, sprayer all drive themselves via GPS. Can get a bunch done in a short time.
