Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

It's funny how camping has evolved for me/g family over the years. For most of my life I tented it and definitely earned my stripes. Now we have a rv. Today it has been storming and pouring rain and such. We have been holed up in the rv since early this morning. Climate controlled comfort. After the boys read they put in a dvd (Miracle) and we made some popcorn in the microwave. Meanwhile, I am cooking some tasty beef in the smoker.

Sounds like you're really "Puttin' on the Ritz". Do you also shower every morning? :p

Getting close to the type of camping I'll do. Sit by a fire, drive to a hotel.

As for camping, I've paid my dues (even built my own lean-to for a night; of course it rained). I'm still fine with running water only. I'm pretty much done with sh*ing in the woods.

"Here I sit, butthole aflame
Regretting Chili Mac**, what a shame"

Actual inscription on the wall of one of the outhouses at the "Lane Cove" camp on Isle Royale NP. :D

**Mountain House ("premier" freeze-dried trail meal purveyor) has a popular "Chili Mac" flavor

Beauty, Clark!

I can deal with no electricity (which I'd use for radio/music only; batteries are expensive!). But running water is a Godsend.

Morning, Lodge.

Gonna head to church for lunch, they have a good promo this weekend: basically you buy an order of wings, get a free beer. It's their 40th Anniv this year, and they've been rolling out promos like crazy. Double bonus: I have $15 credit on my "rewards" card, so free meal. :)

Then probably headed to a local brewery (Hammerheart in Lino Lakes for the locals) as they finally have their best beer back on tap/growlers. Peat-smoked Irish red ale. Now that's some good stuff. :)

That is what wind up radios are for but don't share that secret. I hate when people play music on the dock/ in the cabin all day. When we were growing up the TV got one channel and only got turned on to watch Al Kaprelian do the weather from the top of Mt Washington. THen it was shut off. No radio. I like the silence. My SIL can't stand the silence and likes the radio on at all times. At home I have on the radio but not at camp.

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)
What no bike riding?

Good Morning Lodge!

I really like some chill music. The people who blast crazy stuff while camping or around a fire, notsomuch. There's a time and place for everything.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

Lakeside now with some Zac Brown playing softly. Next up Van The Man. :)

Can still hear the loons!

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #185: Summer Activities

It is strange, but I always seem to end up listening to Frank by the end of any fire at my place.
