Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

I was so happy to be out of apartment living when we got our first house that I LOVED mowing my own lawn.

15 years down the road, I'm no longer in that space, but I don't mind doing it. Not at all.

Snow removal doesn't really bother me either.

Morning.

I just want to be done with this house buying process. I'll worry about my HOA and the fact i don't own the land or any mineral rights later. :D

If this closes we will add a fence within a year (which is already allowed!) to make our yard and deck more private.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

My parents can tell you all about condo associations and their politics. It's insane.
My biggest peeve: you "own" your yard, but not really, but kinda, unless we don't like what you're doing. And there's a big list.
Mum les was part of her condo Board for a bit. Politics were crazy. The thrived on the intrigue, people being idjits, the gossip (altho it wasn't called that),etc. They are ridiculous and very arbitrary. All sorts of silly rules, when you can put out your trash- no more than 24 h before, what type of Christmas lights, type of deck furniture, if you can have a bird feeder or bird house (or not depending on who you know), type of light by your door. When she agrees with the rules she will be the first to chastise people for not following them. If she doesn't, they are 'stupid' rules. She does what she wants then complains when they try to enforce them. I couldn't be bothered with the drama and intrigue of it all.
I won't own a townhouse for this reason. If/when we buy a house, it'll be our house with space away from the neighbors. While our neighbors are pretty innocuous, that hasn't been the case in other apartment situations in which I've lived. My only knock is that the upstairs neighbor smokes quite a bit on his porch, which means we can smell it when our slider is open. We occasionally also hear his TV, but it's not overly disruptive. I look forward to living in a place where we do our own lawn care as I sleep during the day and sometimes our complex does lawn/outdoor care during a sleep day/work night.
THought this until we found out our neighbor likes to snow blow, weed wack, mow at all kinds of hours. Not because he has to go to work but because the spirit moves him at 10:30PM or 5:30 AM to do yard work. No attempt to be quiet. Before his kids grew up and moved out he also would have screaming matches with them, including profanity, at all hours. Wheeee!

Good Morning Lodge!

Good Morning, Lodge!

This is all fun reading when I am starting to look at townhouses. I don't want the yard work, shoveling, or anything that has to deal with outside. My apt is a craphole and they half-a55 fix everything. We have gotten to the point if something breaks, we fix it ourselves. Unless it is major.

Just pay attention to the age of your neighbors in the association. The older they are, the more rules they like to put into place and the less sense they make. I, unfortunately, live in an association with a great number of old blue hairs, so they're mostly retired and have nothing better to do than to foist upon their neighbors their own desires. Oddly enough, they also seem to spend our association money like drunken sailors.

Good Morning Lodge.

Sorry to hear about all the crappy neighbors and Associations. We just have one *****hat neighbor who has a construction company and thinks our dead end residential street is his equipment yard.

If my wife said "Let's move to a townhouse" I could be packed by noon. Live on/near Cathedral Hill and not have to shovel or dick around with a yard? I'm in.

Have a brisket in the smoker. Going to sit on the deck and drink some beers while it smokes away all afternoon. Then tonight need to rack my summer IPA over to secondary, and of course, Game of Thrones. Going to be a good day.

Ugh. I'm a little bummed to miss this. How inconsiderate of my father to be born on this day 65 years ago. I'm a sad panda.

It did not feel like the middle of May in DC when I was out bike riding. Not at all.

I think bbdl might be right. Middle of nowhere is sounding better and better.

Brisket turned out about perfect. Tender, moist, nice bark, great flavor. Easily the best one I've made and as good as any I've had at a BBQ restaurant.

Ick. I love to be out in the yard digging. Spent the afternoon weeding, moving plants around my garden. I would hate not being able to do that.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Good Morning Lodge.

les, you can always come to our house, we have plenty of weeds to be dug up.

Looked at three used boats yesterday (and a couple new ones at Cabela's just for comparison). three "nopes," but I'm learning what I like and don't. Will likely see another one or two tonight.

Good morning ladies & gents.

You've probably seen some pictures I've posted of our yard.....which is why I said if my Mrs. GE wanted to. She's always playing in the dirt and, of course, the decision is hers. :)
Once we get the 2nd kid out of college (only four more easy payments!) we will start thinking seriously about doing something more permanent at our lake property. She will then have all kinds of dirt to root around and we can look to relocate into a condo or townhome in Capital City, MN.

Still rescuing my place from a few yrs of neglect.

I want to move out of my knuckledragger town (mr les would rather live with the imbeciles, he sees nothing wrong with not funding schools, police or fire dept). My dream would be a smaller house with a larger yard. Land is everything. I would go out of my mind if I had to follow rules in a garden or not have one.

Good morning Lodge!
