Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Good Morning Lodge!

Funny how every little bit the crying baby discussion comes up. IMHO if the kid can't sit still for long then why do you put the kid in a position they will be miserable? Sometimes kids are very easygoing and can tol flying well. If they aren't easy going then why do that to the kid or the rest of the world. That may mean going somewhere not via plane until they can tolerate it. Same principle goes for restaurants. Why do that to them or the general public?

I'm a Sennheiser guy myself. My main pair is a set of 558s with the foam removed (essentially turns them into 598s which are $75 more. Same drivers, speakers, and everything. That piece of foam taped to the inside of the speaker is the only difference. Not kidding.)

I'm about to order Sennheisers from Amazon for Junior for graduation. He asked for them and for once, after a little research, I agree with his conclusion. Rated as highly as $600 headphones, list for $250 and Amazon has them for $150.

We only took Jr on a flight once when he was tiny. His Grandma had died in PA. We did all we could and 3 of 4 flight segments were fine, with no fussing or crying. One, from Wilkes-Barre to Phlly, his ears bothered him and there was nothing we could do cause they hurt. It was a short segment though and he was fine on the next one from Philly to Msp.

Found my 558s in the home theater department at Worst Buy for $200. They were the first pair I put on that made me say "Whoa."

Assuming he's just playing around with an iProduct and not LOL PINK FLOYD ON 180 GRAM ORIGINAL STUDIO MASTER VINYL WITH A PHONOGRAPH CARVED ENTIRELY OUT OF BLOOD DIAMOND, the 500 series is pretty much as good as you're going to get. Everything is compressed and brickwalled to hell and back these days anyway.

These are 598s for $150. He'll mostly use them for whatever shoot-em-up on-line game he's playing or youtube videos.

Huge fan of Senns, too. I have a the 439s, great sound for under $100 and the cans (correct term?) are closed so there is little noise leakage to bother others but you can hear some annoying nioses when something brushes the outside of them.

My son asked for a few different models for Christmas a few years ago. I listened to several at Best Buy and ended up getting him the 558s and it was an easy choice. They are amazing, I use them quite often, too. The cans are open so there will be noise leakage outside the phones so they aren't really good for travel or noisy environments. In quiet surroundings, unbeatable. He later got a great deal on some Beats with noise cancellation that he prefers for traveling but the Senns are his go to for everyday listening.

They are a great choice by T.

Stuff like that is more than forgivable, though. It's for a funeral.

Even the cheapie HD-202s are better than any earbuds I've ever tried.

I have the Sony earbuds that came with the 100 whatever memory MP3 player I bought. They are way better than I thought they'd ever be. Bass is top notch (something that I found lacking in many an earbud), volume is excellent, so is the range. I've had earbuds before, and each pair had certain flaws that just bugged me. Fit, sound, whatever. Love 'em.

Morning!

Buddy and I are making a Lino Lakes (about 40 minutes north) run today for lunch and a special beer that a taproom just came out with (barrel-aged smoked chocolate porter; we sampled it before it was ready during the F4). Then it's Derby time! Yes, I hope to see all the pre-race stuff, too. Love the Derby.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Heading to Maple Grove today for the BIL's birthday lunch. Not looking forward to it as the MIL's best friend is going to be there.

I'll definitely forgive any child who has an issue like autism, and their parents. No problem. But it's not really smart to bring a baby on a friggin' plane. Sure, there MAY be an exception or two (say, a funeral situation that the family needs to fly to), but just for a vacation? Nope.
Listen, there's all sorts of reasons to travel with small kids. Visiting family, moving, funerals, weddings, etc. It's actually perfectly fine to bring a baby on a plane, I did it multiple times with my daughter, it just takes preparation. Granted, with all the preparation in the world, your kid can still end up crying the whole time but you don't really know until you go.

Don't want to get all "you don't have kids so you don't understand" but, you don't have kids so you don't understand. I just find a lot of this whining to be pretty pretentious, like the crying kid is an evil plot to get you PO'd and ruin your day. It's like, I have to travel, I have to travel with my kid, I'm sorry they're crying, I don't like it either, I'm trying to deal with it.

You don't have to take a plane to travel! Car, Boat, Bus, Horseback, Walk. Plenty of options! :D

Actually, I do have a kid. Long story, but I would never put him or others through a flight until I know he would not disrupt others.
