Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

Just pulled the trigger.

'99 Miata, British racing green, 78K miles, manual transmission. #hatersgonnahate

I don't understand the hatred towards Miatas, but okay. How are you going to drive it with Denver's 300 days of sunshine each year?

Single, male, coupe roadster...there go your insurance rates. ;)

Over 25 (heck, over 30,) dropping the Jeep down to PL/PD and garaging it half the year, and it's a 17 year old Miata, not a new WRX.

ETA: Seeing a lot of places saying Miatas are pretty cheap to insure. It may be a zippy convertible roadster, but it doesn't exactly have the capability to do a lot of damage to anything other than itself.

Yeah, once you hit 25, insurance drops, and Miatas are not known like Mustangs/Corvettes/etc. They're "sport-y" but not "sport." ;)

Great day at the family's, bro and I grilled pork chops glazed with bourbon-barreled maple syrup, and hobo potatoes (potatoes with onions/spices in tinfoil, on the grill).

Really couldn't ask for a better day for weather, either.

We have that no-fault junk in MN too. The drop was still appreciable for me when my car was all of two years old at the time.

MI is the only state that specifies no upper limit for medical expenses on no-fault. This drives insurance rates through the roof.

For me, it also helps that I've never gotten a ticket other than a "fix-it."

Good Morning Lodge.

Put the garden in this weekend. It's what Mrs wanted for Mothers' Day. We have to put in two more tomato plants a grape and a cherry. Mrs thought she got them when we were picking plants out at the Farmers' Market but she missed them. Hope my dad's old adage of never planting it before Memorial Day is no longer valid.

maybe dad just didn't want to deal with a garden and made up that quote to put it off another month. :D

That sounds more like my strategy than my dad's. He was all in on planting a garden. He probably had one garden decimated by a late frost in like '48 and from then on wouldn't plant until after memorial day to ensure it never happened again. Typical Norwegian. Of course now if you tried to wait that long all the plants are gone by then.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #184: The 2016 Frozen Four

True story, flying back from Disneyland my wife, my daughter, and myself all had separated seats on the Seattle to Anchorage segment. I go to the gate agent to get things changed around since they couldn't do it at LAX. Gate agent changes things no problem, hands me new boarding passes and calls up this older gentleman to give him a new boarding pass since his seat was now changed. The older gentleman is super PO'd that he got switched to a window seat from an aisle seat, the gate agent, who looked like a 20 year plus vet, said "fine, you can sit next to the mother and 5 year old while the dad relaxes in a window seat 10 rows forward. NEXT!" He was still b*tching the entire time when I took my wife and daughter on during the early boarding.
My grandmother would book a specific seat because of her medical conditions (of course she was a Christian Scientist so she did not call it that). They tried to move her once when I was flying with her. She put up a fuss. No way was she going to reveal why that seat was necessary for her so she looked not so nice. So I guess I am a bit in sympathy with the guy who got his seat changed without asking first.

We are supposed to get frost tonight.

After being somewhere tropical a few weeks ago it feels like Spring is taking forever to get here.

If it were me I'd want to be asked first... And not having been asked I would want money from the airline.

These days I go for aisles as I'm too large... I don't have to ruin lives to go to the bathroom. But I always liked window seats so I can guess where I am and see things

I can see myself getting bent out of shape... But mostly if I felt the airline didn't respect me while trying to mollify a family

I just received the keycard for the new building to which we're moving Friday afternoon. It turns out that it is possible to have a worse photograph taken than what appears on your drivers license. Who knew?
