Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I wasn't so thrilled to hear that raises, to be announced in January, will be based heavily on how underpaid employees are relative to the local market rate for their experience. Of course, my manager wouldn't divulge the source of the "market rates". He did, however, let it slip that the budget for raises was resubmitted to the BoD this week for a third attempt at approval. I have a feeling I'm not going to be too thrilled with the percentage I end up getting. However, any raise is better than the unemployment line, and perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised. See, I'm already working on the negativity!
Had that at my first job out of college. I got one of the big raises. I was shocked they bothered to show me the "market rates", only made me feel unappreciated considering how much under that I was making. I had no experience so I understand making less than average, but still why even show me that?

Unemployment isnt all that bad. Go grocery shopping whenever you want and not have to deal with crowds. The biggest plus stress is A LOT less.
I got laid off mid-November but I remained on the company payroll until the end of the month, so I basically had a 2 month vacation. The company also gave me a really nice severance package, that I took.

The market is apparently prime for mechanical engineers because I had 2 in person interviews that lead to 2 offers and I start my new job Monday, so I'll have been unemployed a total 5 weeks.
I greatly enjoyed my unevmployement. Between severance package and saved up vacation I had 7 weeks of full pay but no work. After that 7 weeks I more actively looked for employment and started the new job within 2 more months. It wasn't hard to find work as an engineer.

Puppy update: went to the vet yesterday because she hadn't eaten in 3 days. They didn't find anything really wrong with her. Now she's eating but refuses to leave the area rug in the living room. I tried coaxing her off with food, but she would only venture a few feet.

If someone takes a job at "below market rates" why should that punish someone else. If you have such low regard for yourself that you'd accept an offer that low, tough.

I thought today was Thursday. Because it feels an awful lot like a Tuesday.

No it isn't I've turned down the opportunities to interview with companies this week, but I've also gotten calls from companies I would really like to work for, so I entertain those calls.

Is anyone else seeing this message when they post "Warning: Only variables should be passed by reference in ..../newreply.php on line 389"?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

It doesn't seem to be happening anymore.

Edit: I guess the correct statement is that it doesn't happen here, only in D-I and perhaps other places.
