For you GPLers who post over here...

So I did some research and found that we need to order 25 per color to get authentic MTU jerseys through the team. The exact cost depends on the jersey but I've been told to expect it to cost $160 per jersey. Let me know via email if any of you are interested in ordering an authentic Michigan Tech jersey.

I think we're focusing on the Fourth GLI White jersey or the Third Gold jersey.

Howdy Lodge. Back in the office - we spent the morning as a department one last time volunteering at the Pine Street Inn, a local shelter. We had a chop-a-thon! Basically we cut/chopped veggies - carrots, brussel sprouts green and red peppers, onions and sweet potatoes. Then we went to lunch. Most everyone went home, but I had a few things to do so I came back to the office. The head of our department who "left" last month came back for this - it's his party to the department. But will be our last as a group as the department wsa split when he left. That kinda bums me out.

Had my "performance review" today (they have little-to-no effect on our raises). No complaints about my work, plenty of praise in fact. I was told that if I'm aspiring to become a technical lead in the next few years, that I need to put in an effort to have a less negative demeanor, however my manager also said that he was told the exact same thing by the VP of our department last year about his own attitude. :p

I wasn't so thrilled to hear that raises, to be announced in January, will be based heavily on how underpaid employees are relative to the local market rate for their experience. Of course, my manager wouldn't divulge the source of the "market rates". He did, however, let it slip that the budget for raises was resubmitted to the BoD this week for a third attempt at approval. I have a feeling I'm not going to be too thrilled with the percentage I end up getting. However, any raise is better than the unemployment line, and perhaps I will be pleasantly surprised. See, I'm already working on the negativity!

Unemployment isnt all that bad. Go grocery shopping whenever you want and not have to deal with crowds. The biggest plus stress is A LOT less.
I got laid off mid-November but I remained on the company payroll until the end of the month, so I basically had a 2 month vacation. The company also gave me a really nice severance package, that I took.

The market is apparently prime for mechanical engineers because I had 2 in person interviews that lead to 2 offers and I start my new job Monday, so I'll have been unemployed a total 5 weeks.

Found out that we're working a half-day on Christmas Eve, but a full day on the day after Christmas. I sense a LOT of boredom on that Friday. Confused at that decision.

I probably am too, but at least I know why. If the market is open, we HAVE to be there. Rest of the company has it off, of course.

Given the day the 26th is, I figured half day. I think after about noon, some decisions will be made.

Morning.

Last day in the office, and only because of meetings. Work from home tomorrow and then a week off in SF.

Good Morning Lodge.

Our office pot luck is today. I helped the Mrs make a pumpkin cheesecake (gluten free) last night for the pot luck.

Our office will be officially closed the day after Christmas and the day after New Years, but we must take CTO if we want them off. I think I'll come in for at least part of each day.

I am working and it will not be a quiet day. Lots of people who are not happy with whatever will look to ne instantly cured.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

I'm supposed to come to work on the 26th, 29th and 30th...but my supervisor told all of us "don't come in, I don't want to see you online or in the office between Christmas or New Years, regardless of if you have vacation left". Ok, so that settles that. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)

Today's my last day in the office till January 2nd. I was debating about taking that day off as well, but that's 2015 vacation time. I think I'll be ready to come in. It's one day and then we get a weekend. I'm sure it will be dead quiet so it's probably a good day to come in.
