Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #173: (Insert Title)
Family drama time.
Two of my brothers (I'm the youngest of five brothers) were arguing over my mom's Hummel collection. My oldest brother had given her the majority of them over the years, and thought that made him entitled to them. My youngest brother (4 of 5) wanted to hold hard and fast to the idea of selling them all and splitting the money between all of us. The rest of us didn't really care what happens with them, only that we didn't want to see a fist fight break out - unless we had our movie popcorn ready. I called #4 today after talking with #2 (#2 and I are the co-executors of the estate) to see if we could get him to back off before bad blood really starts to flow and something extremely stupid happens. I tell #4 that #2 and I did the research, that the Hummels aren't worth all that much money, that going through the process of selling them just wasn't worth the effort. Well, he tells me that he's not really after the money. Instead it turns out that #4 took that stance because he thought that my oldest brother had taken all of the baby pictures my mom had and wasn't disbursing them to us. I told him that he was mistaken, that #1 never had pictures because he would have had to come through me to get them in the first place, and that just hadn't happened (my mom moved in with me for about six years before going to the nursing home). My mom was excellent at packing/hiding things, and I still haven't found everything that I know should be in my house somewhere. He finally relents, and the Hummel hostages have been freed to go to #1. Finally.
Lo and behold, while on the phone with #1 after the #4 conversation, I found the old photo album tucked that had the baby photos. Crisis absolutely averted now. Holy Mother of Flying Spaghetti Monster, this whole situation just sucked. And the whole argument is partially my fault, somehow, because it's coming up on the one-year anniversary of her death and I wanted to close out some of these things. Oomph dat.
