Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #172: Did you see your shadow?

I did not, and was already given the lecture from the woman. :p

bbdl: food poisoning doesn't count. I've had that in the last couple years too (the SCSU trip I missed, when you all stayed at that crappy motel). Anything I may or may not have caught in the last....I dunno, 5-6 years or so has been a runny nose, and that's about it.

Pretty much the same. I caught a pretty nasty cold a couple years ago, but that's about it in the past 8 years or so.

Good Morning, Lodge!

I think I am coming down with a cold. This is not the week that I need this.

There would be some argument for me to get a flu shot if I'd actually had the flu in the last 15 years. Waste of time. You simply don't need it if you have a good immune system.

Just finished my morning cup of sheetrock mud, errrrr greek yogurt. This one was by far the worst, vanilla bean flavored. The only ones that I thought were marginally edible were strawberrry and strawberry banana.

I love this attitude. Guys like you are the ones that end up wondering what hit them. All it takes is a strain you haven't 'seen' before and Bob's your uncle.

I have seen elite athletes hospitalized with flu when their elite immune systems weren't as elite as they thought..... oops! :D Really messed up training to be on an IV instead of at a work out.

Bring it.

edit: But seriously, you really think in the last 15 years, including years in high school and college and going to work, that I haven't encountered strains my body hasn't seen before? There are many new strains every year, and its not like I sit at home and avoid human contact. I have said it before, due to my experiences growing up, and still more recently, I have built up my immune system, so I am confident that I will be fine. I still get colds, but I get them half as long as half as severe as other people around me. I fight them off faster and more efficiently. It is because my body has been continually exposed to more bugs and germs throughout my life. I grew up on the farm around animals, and around ****. Hands don't get washed when you're out in the field and you don't have water, you live with it. This is why I hate hand sanitizers, the prevent people from getting exposed to less harmful germs. We're creating people that are dependant on drugs to stay healthy, and get sick whenever they encounter any germ, I don't want that.

Well, I'm hacking up everything in sight, sweating but I'm freezing, and have gone through a box of tissues already this morning.

Wait, no I haven't. I'm fine. :)

Lil is off season and not supposed to run for a week. He has a sudden affinity for shoveling and just about anything requiring activity :D This is a good thing.

But since it's impossible to accurately predict the strains going around in the upcoming season, I've always argued that the shot is less than 50% likely to prevent contraction. Therefore, I never bother. When I eventually get it, I'll suffer the consequences.

As for me - I don't always get sick, but when I do, I prefer extended hospital visits. Stay healthy, my friends.
