Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

Good Morning, Lodge!

Whatever happened to absolute zero and Minnesota schools are 2 hours delayed?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I hate when they cancel school...because then we have to hear from all the "Back in my day it was absolute zero and I waited at the bus stop all night before it came! AND I TURNED OUT JUST FINE!!!!" people.

Well....I did.

Morning Lodge. It is my Friday today. Still have 5+ weeks vacation this year. :D

Well, we didn't. And it makes us better people than the wussy children people are raising today. My school district never once cancelled or delayed school because of the cold. It just didn't happen. We only closed once or twice for snow. And only three kids ever died from frostbite while waiting for the bus or walking to school.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I hate when schools get cancelled, particularly because we can't practice or play when it happens. Since the first of the year, our district has had MLK day off, 3 days closed, and 3 days 2 hour late.:o

I often talk about a challenge I saw when I first started coaching; how society enables kids these days. Parents are guilty of enabling their children to take advantage of the way society is these days, and the school districts are following suit, apparently. (This isn't on all parents; lots of great parents get sucked into enabling their kids because it's how society is today.)

Morning, Lodj.

Hey GE, are you going to the Twins lunch thing today? Seems like something you might attend. I'll going, with my close personal friend, Rod Carew. Yeah, that's the ticket.

We've been wussified. I blame all the immigrants from places like Indiana and Wisconsin. :p

You cut me with that one, g. You cut me real deep. :(

In other, probably unrelated, news, an anonymous California man has filed for a marriage license with a muskrat. More details as they come in.

I still showed up for work without complain. :p

BTW, the hammer did fall on one of the two that I was suspecting. Yay! The person replacing them (well, actually coming back) is crazier than me.

The one thing that today did convince me of is that I'm going in for laser eye surgery this year. I spent about three minutes this morning shoveling the walkway leading to my frontdoor. When I sat in my car to drive to work, my lenses fogged over like I was in a Russian bath house. I'm sick of that crap. I had to wait a while so my lenses could defog.

Do it. I had lasik in 2000 and am very happy I did. My vision isn't the crystal clear, better than perfect that the ads promise, but it is good enough - probably about 20/40. I can't imagine living in a cold weather state or here in Washington with constant drizzle.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

So. Winter storm warning down here in Houston. Talking up to a quarter inch of ice. It's going to be the end of the world.

Gale warnings also posted for the Texas gulf coast. Going to be a doozy of a night.

Current conditions in Houston, TX: 39, winter storm warning in effect, freezing rain and sleet tonight.
Current conditions in Houston, AK: 46, scattered showers, turning to rain tonight.

What's this "turning to rain tonight" crap? Does Anchorage even have day yet this year?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #171: On Turkeys.

I thought brainwashing kids into liking your favorite sports teams was easy. I haven't tried it personally, but my parents seemed to figure it out, since my brother and I were raised far, far away in Maryland but as huge Michigan fans. My foolish uncle somehow convinced his daughters to be Sparty fans. I've even seen little * uckeye fans running around, which, clearly, no child would choose to be on their own.
There's a teacher at my HS who did this. I believe him and his wife both graduated from OSU. And they've cranked out a litter. You would have thought him being the Science teacher he would have figured out by now what causes that problem.

You guys had Square One TV to brainwash a whole generation of PBS viewers.
