Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Oh you should see some of the people that were in that jury pool. I was darn near "respectable" comparatively!

I know. I don't ever want to be accused of a crime because I don't want to be judged by 12 people who can't duck jury duty. ;)

:p

This current stretch is a result of me postponing it from just before the F5. I chose this 2-week stretch b/c of Memorial Day (one less day to show up). :)

Morning.

Plans are in the works to come back to the TC for Labor Day weekend. Let the fiancee see the sights and hit the state fair. Luckily she has already been to MOA, so I can skip that.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Lunch break. Chilly and cloudy outside, so no lunch on the plaza for this guy. Blech.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

There is just something about a nice warm slice of banana nut bread. Delicious.

Hanging out near New Orleans. My alma mater's training ship is supposed to be coming into town tomorrow. Hoping I can see it and maybe even drive past it. /stuffboatnerdssay

Howdy Lodge. Nice day here in 617-ville. I thought it was supposed to be crappy. Sun is out. It's cool, but humid, so my hair is a wreck. I lugged my umbrella today as I am going out to dinner with some friends and it may be raining by then. Or not. Because I lugged my umbrella.

Just ran out to City Sports to buy an official FIFA soccer ball. One of the projects I'm working on for our FIFA sponsorship is sending a soccer ball around the world to all of our operations and have the country managers sign it. It's gone from here to Canada to Portugal to Spain to Ireland and is now in Poland. It heads to Turkey next and the marketing guy there said he needs the actual receipt to help get it through Customs. Not sure where the original ball came from so I had to get another one. I hope it doesn't get stuck. Or "lost."

I am always in the market for cool FIFA gear if you have some to give away BFF. :)

Hopefully the customs guys in Turkey don't pay much attention to the date and place of purchase on the receipt, seeing as the ball will be arriving from Poland, and not Boston. :p

I'm thinking/hoping the place of purchase isn't an issue as we are the "importer" of record and we're based here. The date could be. We'll see. And thanks for giving me something to stress out about!! :)

Is it that they want a reciept or the funny green pieces of paper that leads to one?

It SHOULD be okay, as we are the place of shipping origin (not Poland) and that is where the receipt is from. The date shouldn't matter, with the proper context (story behind the ball's journey).

Well, was on a 24-person jury panel, which was narrowed down to 14 (12 plus 2 alternate jurors). Since I'm talking about it, I obviously didn't make the cut. I'm thinking the fact my uncle is Chief Deputy of Olmstead County (Rochester, MN for you out of towners) was a big factor (half the potential witnesses in the case I was assigned to were cops).

Also, when asked my interests, and I mentioned reading non-fiction, the judge asked me what I mainly read, I said "Americana/pop culture, and organized crime families like Cosa Nostra, Yakuza, and Los Zetas." Defendant was Hispanic. I'm guessing the defense lawyer wasn't fond of that, despite this not being an organized crime/drug case (it was a 2nd degree assault).

The judge was awesome. Very professional, but did joke a little with the panel during the questioning (that helps narrow down the field).

"Does anyone interact or know anyone that is Hispanic." (several raised their hands, me included; when my turn to answer was up)
"Yes, my tattoo artist is part Hispanic, I don't socialize with him outside of my tattoo appointments since he's located in CO, but we talk quite a bit during the appointments; sports/tv/etc."
"Why do you have him as 'your' artist?"
"He's a son of a friend that lives out there. I head out there 1-2 times a year to visit friends and watch college hockey."
"So, which CO school are you a fan of? DU or Colorado College?"
"I'm a Gophers fan, your Honor."
"That's the right answer."

:D :D :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #167: Weather

Should have held you in Contempt of Court....:D
'

I swear we almost had a guy charged with that. 24 people were picked for the possible panel. 21 were selected for the panel. The other 3 had to stay in the courtroom, and while they didn't have to answer any questions by the judge/lawyers at that point, they had to be aware of the questions. Guy fell asleep yesterday. Today, he happened to be added to the official panel. It appeared (stress that word) that he thought if he was not selected for this jury, he would go home.

Nope, you go back to the general pool. All of a sudden, he seemed to be rather interested in this case. Um, oops. Needless to say, he was booted from the panel soon after.
