Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #162: Love Is In the Air

Back from Wal-Mart. It would be a temporary third shift stocking position, with the opportunity to move into part-time if I show up on time and do my work well. And they're supposed to call tomorrow for orientation, background check, and drug screen.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #162: Love Is In the Air

Alma mater played flat and got beat. Tough loss.

One thing really caught my eye; turned and saw a dad, of a senior, with watery eyes.. Not to that moment, two years later, did I once think of what my dad looked like in this moment. Did he have a tear? What raced through his mid as he watched me out there, completely devastated?

My mom told me she was in tears; hockey was my life. He told me he was proud and whatnot. Never once have I heard what my dad was like once the final buzzer sounded on my career.

Afternoon Lodge.

gmann, so sorry about your dad. Hope it goes as smoothly as it can. Do they have a hospice room for him at St. Mary's? I know I worked on one there a number of years ago.

Thanks.

Update for those of you keeping score from home. For those of you who are not............ I apologize for the update.

Dad is hanging on. Doped up beyond belief. He experienced about as nasty of a stroke that a person could have had. He has not opened his eyes since the stroke. Yesterday/last night/this morning he could answer questions with a moan/grunt. Actually was able to communicate with him but his responsiveness to such things is slowly becoming less and less frequent.

The next 48 to 72 hours will be critical. If he continues to hang on and stabilizes then sometime next week we will look at hospice options. We don't want that option.

Not that it matters but we met with the oncologist today. They comfirmed what we already knew. He is full of cancer and the doctors have no way to pin point where it started or what kind it is. We were hoping to get answers about what kind of cancer he has as its important to me and my family regarding what we need to be proactive about for our own medical futures.

My brother and his family are here as is my sister and her child along with the g family. The last 24 hours have been dark and gloomy but we had a great day today being together. My highlight today was watching Little g sit on grandpas bed as he read grandpa some stories.

St. Mary's/Mayo is second to none. Every employee we have dealt with is simply amazing. This place is awesome even to the finest of details.

The whole foyer, or whatever it is, on the first floor is really amazing. Was anyone playing the piano as you walked by it? I took my mom to St. Mary's during the fall of 2004 for Alzheimer's testing. Those were some long days.

Good luck to you and your family, gmann. I hope it all works out in least eventful way as possible from this point forward.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #162: Love Is In the Air

Howdy y'all. Been busy the past couple days, or spotty service.

Thoughts your way gmann. I can't help but think back to my Grandmother taking her fall last October. So sudden and unexpected, but atleast when she decided to stop treatment, she was able to go quickly and peacefully.

Should be at dock mid morning. Hope we only pump one barge today and get tonight to relax. We'll see.

Mid afternoon yesterday he was moved from ICU to his own room. I have walked by that foyer and the piano quite a bit and nobody has been playing yet.

Good morning Lodge.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #162: Love Is In the Air

g... you're among friends here; no need to apologize. If you want to share the details we'll listen. If you don't, we'll understand. Another round of prayers for you and the entire g clan.

Plus, I'm pretty sure apologies aren't allowed in tLodge. ;)

Same thing happened to my grandpa after he had his stroke 4 years ago (wow, doesn't seem like it's been that long). Never opened his eyes from the time he had the stroke until he passed. Still kept trying to get the nurse to get him a Spotted Cow though.

I'll take understatement for $1000, Alex.

I have a friend that's a surgical tech at Mayo, and if she's an example of the type of people they hire, there will be very, very few people who leave dissatisfied with the level of care their loved ones receive.
