Re: Rep Retirement Lodge #149 - Best adaptation of a movie title-and the lodgie goes

It was fun waking up at 2am this morning to tornado sirens in the South Metro. Mother Nature is lucky that I was able to go back to sleep.
Two observations:
1) It was only a severe thunderstorm warning; Eagan blows its sirens for either a tornado or a severe thunderstorm warning (the city did the same thing Thursday morning).
2) Sirens were meant to be heard by people outdoors - not by those of us who are in a building (so I'm amazed that the sirens going off were sufficient to wake you up - they'd never wake me up, that's for **** sure).

The twin cities have gotten ~4" of rain over the past five days; that pretty much has ended the drought we were in since last August.

I checked and didn't see any warnings. Also, the siren is down the block
from where I live. :)

YES! Was just coming here to post that it was on.

Did I ever tell you guys my Miracle story? So, the year the movie came out (2004) I go to the Hockey East tournament at the Garden. I was sitting with former poster Big Poppa Pump/pkennedy who is a BU kid. Head to my seat and I see that Jack O'Callahan's father is sitting right next to me. I've known him for years as he continued to go to BU games long after his son left. Anyway, I introduced Paul to him and then we start chatting about the movie. Paul tells me how he was telling some girl he was going to school with that he knew Mike Mantenuto - the kid that played Jack O'Callahan in the movie - because he played hockey against him (Mantenuto is from MA). The guy sitting in front of us turns and says "How do you know my son?" So I ask him if he is Mike Mantenuto's father. He says yes. I ask him "Do you know who this man is?" pointing to Mr. O'Callahan. He say no. So I introduced the father of the kid that played Jack O'Callahan to the father of Jack O'Callahan. It was pretty cool. Oh, and Mike Mantenuto was there that night and Quiz met him. [/jealous]

Very cool story indeed. Thanks for Sharing.

Agreed. Have fun Scarlet!

Pond came up about a foot overnight with the inch of rain we got here. Carp in our lawn. Not sure that the recent rains have actually erased the drought as the Commie claims though, it's been a long one.

Very cool.

The only story I have is that some friends and I played some touch football against Nate Miller (who played John Harrington) and some of his friends a few years back. Really cool guy.

Not sure that the recent rains have actually erased the drought as the Commie claims though, it's been a long one.
How much rain has fallen in MN over the past two weeks: http://water.weather.gov/precip/
Moisture deficit in MN as of 4-24-12: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/updraft/archive/drought/

The amounts depicted on those two maps are roughly equal for the twin cities (4-6"), so the drought is either done with or is very close to it. Unfortunately, many parts of southern MN are still short of moisture even after getting 6-8" of rain in the past two weeks (although the situation has markedly improved).

LWB - the severe thunderstorm warning was issued shortly before 2 a.m. with an expiration of 2:30. From what I could tell, the storm that hit Thursday morning was stronger (both strong wind and hail).

Figures. All weekend it has been raining and cold. 6:45 Sunday evening and the sun decides to show up.

Enough with the rain, y'all. Makes the river rise, slowing me down. HP1015 likes his boat to go fast when heading north up the river. Although I won't be headed N/B for another week or 2, since I'll be going to Houstown next starting tomorrow am.

Oh, because the more water increases the current speed of the river??

Played paintball today. Got all shot up, but I did get a few licks in myself. Just that I would have really liked to get the SOB who shot me right on the inside of my left wrist. Damm that hurts like a mother!!!!

I miss paintball. I used to play once or twice a month back in the day (when semi-autos were a rarity). Fun times. IIRC, the guns we had were pistols, 10 to a clip, and had to pump the gun before the next shot.

One of the tricks you had with those weapons, if you knew you were screwed and going to be "killed", was to load up two paintballs in the chamber, creating a shotgun-like blast (paint hits you, you are done). Trouble was, if you did that, your gun was useless until you got back to the "base" and cleaned the barrel out, due to the gunk build-up on the shot.

Good Morning, MEUSA! :)

Good Morning to the rest of tLodge! :)

Yep. We had a rising river the past couple days, slowed us down a good bit. Any rain that the Upper Miss or Ohio rivers get, we will see the effects of usually within a week. Although the good news is since there was no snow up north this spring, river levels are still significantly lower than they were this time last year.
