Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 143: A Golden ;) Oldie

Lived at my parents house (well, from February-present, my Mom's place) but that isn't really going to be the deciding factor for the dependant situation. I don't intend on filing as 'somebody will claim me as a dependant' since I don't believe I fall under that category given the scenario I'm in. I ran both last night and, as I expected, filing as single, not being claimed as a dependant nets me about 700 bones, compared to a net loss of 100 if I'm claimed as a dependant.

Yeah, but how much would your parent(s) save? You can offer to collaborate and split the savings perhaps??

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 143: A Golden ;) Oldie

I thought I made a tax thread for this very reason... of course part of it was in case my discussions involved math...

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 143: A Golden ;) Oldie

All the wondering about differences in amount saved is rendered moot, however, if my belief that since I "supported" myself >50% (my tuition was covered, grants covered meal plan, and my parents only paid for 1/3 or so of my housing once I lost my RA spot. There is no way he/they could spin it to where they supported 50% or more for me.), then I cannot be claimed as a dependent, is true. They are well enough off so they don't NEED the dependent deduction for me. I'm sure they would want/like to get it, but it isn't going to kill them if I'm not able to be claimed.
