FM is about to start coaching a PeeWee B team. I'm kind of terrified for him, actually. He's planning on starting out his parents' meeting by informing them that their kids are not going to be playing in the NHL...

Uh-oh, I hope he's invested in a spine recently. :p

You know... There's something oddly calming about watching clothes go round and round in the dryer.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

Today was my one day meeting down in the city. I planned to take the subway from up here as a cab would have cost a fortune and the traffic would have been a nightmare. I go down to the restaurant and notice that all they have is a breakfast buffet. I didn't want to spend $15 for the buffet plus, which is wasted on me. I eat breakfast, just not a lot. This set up is because they're undergoing a major renovation here. That said, I could have ordered pancakes or a waffle from room service. Don't you think that if I could order something like that from room service I should have been able to order the same in the restaurant given it all comes from the same kitchen? ANd given where I am, there is no breakfast place close by. So, I decide to just head down to the city as I figure I can at least find a Dunkin Donuts. The meeting confirmation I got said the meeting started at 9am so I figured I had to leave before 8am to make sure I got down there in time to find where the meeting was and to get breakfast. Found a DD, walked to where the meeting was (in the Chicago Sun-Times building). Turns out 9-9:45 was a "networking breakfast" and the meeting itself didn't start till after 10am. I could have slept another hour.

Then, I kept trying to check email and noticed I wasn't getting any. Someone on Facebook posted that there was this big outage. Great. So I have no way to check emails during the day. I have my iPhone, but the coverage was not great. I wasted a lot of battery trying to get onto my work email. If i go over my 3G amount I'm going to have to expense it.

Now I need to find a place to eat dinner. I saw there's a Houlihan's across the freeway that I can get to using the footbridge for the subway.

More subway problems on a night where I just want to go home and hunker in. I need to catch a break :(

So, writing the schedule for this place is nothing short of a PITA.
'Diva: (to coworkers) Hey, guys--a lot of you have requested Thanksgiving weekend off, and since we're a retail establishment and all, you all can't get the time off. So, please tweak plans accordingly.
Coworkers: (all simultaneously request the weekend off.)
'Diva: *headdesk**headdesk*
Not looking forward to playing bad cop here, but I'm going to have to. I'm not working at this damm store by myself that weekend. If I'm stuck in town away from family, then someone other than Flashy is sticking around here with me.

Sister of Twitch has passed her state boards and is now an RN!

Any of the medical folks know any job openings? She's looking to do inpatient work, preferably pediatrics or OB.
There are RN openings basically everywhere. She should have no problem finding employment.

Seniority based.

Longer you have worked there, the better chance you have to get T-Day off. That's what our work does. Also, then you cannot be accused of playing favorites.

Just got done with work. I have about 4 hours of emails to deal with after working in the test cell all day. Such a pain in the ***. Also, I'm stuck in a Holiday Inn in Green Bay again. This trip was supposed to be 2 days, one overnight...this is my third night here. Yuck.

Just think of all the snatch you've had though!!!

What Brent said or do it by who asks for the least amount of time off. You don't ask for a whole lot of time off otherwise? Here you go, you get it when you really want it.

Ours are granted based on whether or not you got that time off in the past. If you got Thanksgiving+Friday off last year and want it again this year, you're probably **** out of luck.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

Nobody works Thanksgiving weekend where I work...and I just ask for vacation and get it. Doesn't really matter when it is.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

There are some around my work who take the same periods of time off every year (such as I do in March, for the F5). Others know this, and don't ask for time off during that time, just to be nice. They know the favor will be returned. It works quite nicely.

As for Black Friday, I always work that day, because it's easy money, and there are a lot co-workers whose families are out of state, so they go home for the holidays. I figure my family is local, I don't need the day off anyway. Let them have it.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 138: HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY HOCKEY!

So a former-friend has posted on FB that they quit the hockey association today. They're upset that their kid got placed on a C team. He has always been a B player, not a high end B either. The kid is a very good (but not great) skater, solid defensive defensman, but tiny. I'm sorry, but it's bantams now - some of these kids are HUGE, there is no way their kid can move anybody out of the slot now. They complain about politics, but frankly, there aren't much politics at the low end of the spectrum, it's how you do on the ice, the coaches want to win at B level. I have no sympathy for them. My kid always looks bad in tryouts and then winds up being one of the top scorers on whatever team he lands on.

Get T F over yourselves, he's not that good.

ETA: I e-mailed him to ask about it and he blasted me, accusing my of helping conspire to put together a "dream team" and leaving the rest of the "left overs" to fend for themselves. I sent a reply where I did not edit my languge. It would have a had a number of *s here on USCHO.

Well done!
In youth hockey "politics" is a euphemism for "my kid got cut".

He shoulda asked the Commie or me for some terms to use. I'm sure he would have learned some new ones. :D
