Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

I don't know if there's such a thing as an overpriced tv these days. Most of what I've seen in the 50-55" range costs less than I paid for mine in 2005.

I'm talking relative to same size/reputation/etc.

And ditto on general pricing. If I waited a year, I'd have paid about 25% less for my tv. However, I didn't really have that option unless I wanted to go without tv altogether. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

Hellooooooooooooooo * hockey bar!

Although this bumps UAA directly into a slugfest for home ice, which is cool too.

I sure as **** couldn't do it. Lose out on the remaining two months of college hockey, the stanley cup playoffs, etc? No. ****ing. Way.

Dude, if you're actively pulling for UAA, be careful - they'll probably crapski the last couple weeks and lose home ice just to spite you.

Mine went out about a month before the F5. Yeah, not going that route. Especially when I was hosting a sh*load of people that year. (IIRC, that was the year of the first big poker game, but am unsure. Have to check the photos for that)

The one where I played one hand in the first hour and wound up winning? :D

Someone should've put a bunch of ones on the table when it went HU.

That was the year. Still disappointed at the outcome of that one. Had a golden chance to take out a main competitor, and the odds didn't fall my way. :(

I like how the structure had to be turned to complete **** because the game had taken over 3 hours and we needed to get to St. Paul.

Depending upon how picky you are, you should find some great prices. Stores are looking to get rid of their 2010 models as the 2011 models are coming out shortly. TVs are just not selling right now as there's pretty good market saturation due to those who wanted HD mostly have their sets. Now it's just people pretty much replacing their sets as they break.

I'd go for a 120 or 240Hz LCD rather than plasma for the simple reason that plasma sets have a much higher energy consumption. With the price of energy going up due to renewable energy rules, it just makes better financial sense.

Morning, up to the mountain to ski until 2:30 or so, then driving back to go out for the super bowl. Enjoy your Sunday and the game.

I've heard that, but I've also heard LCD's suck if you aren't looking at them straight-on (or nearly so). I've also heard they have issues with contrast (black isn't dark enough).

Right now, I'm hunting around for something in the $900-1200 range. I'll probably order something off amazon and have it shipped 2-day so I get it by Tuesday.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 129: Still got those Winter Blues...

Happy to see that Don Adam is still making * up as he goes along.
I watched this game last night, and Don Adam makes Steve McInchak look competent.

Morning, Lodge. Going to work to feed the mob, then coming home, frying up some bacon, and sitting down to watch the game with a BLT and a bottle of Bell's.

I looked at plasmas and LCDs for about a month before purchasing. I went with a Panasonic Viera. I'd highly, highly recommend the G25 series. It's a step below their 3D TVs but without two features: 24p and 3D. If I had one regret about my TV it would be the lack of 24p. My next TV absolutely will have 24p. I can live without it but it would be nice. It eliminates the 3:2 pulldown jutter effect on plasmas. All the benefits of an LCD but the picture quality of a plasma.

If you go with LED, know that unless you're getting a top end model, you will not get the zonal LEDs, just a single backlight. Why are zonal LEDs important? Because they can turn off sectors of your TV's backlighting to give a much deeper black than any regular LCD without LED backlighting could ever hope. Also, LED is somewhat of a marketing gimmick. It's a bit better, but not a whole lot.

Don't buy into the 240 Hz crap or anything like that. It's well, well above what the human eye can perceive. Major gimmick. Any side-by-side models that seem to show the superiority of 240 Hz is because they set it up that way. Don't fall for it. Also be very careful about any other side by side videos. If this is a purchase you don't intend on making again in the near future, bring in your own Blu-Ray or whatever and play around with it. I did and it saved me $500.

I don't get hangovers. :p
And I'm much calmer today. I just needed to stir up a little commotion after that game last night. Here's a chocolate milk, my treat.

My 50" plasma on average will run about 300 watts. Let's say it's on four hours a day, every day. That's about $2.70 a month in energy consumption. Let's assume an LED runs about 150 watts. That's a savings of about $1.30 a month. Energy costs could go up from about $0.08/kWh to $0.40/kWh and you're still looking at a few bucks a month. Energy savings are hardly worth mentioning.
