Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Howdy Lodge. Home from Chicago. Plane pulled away from the gate on time but had to sit on the tarmac for a while due to air traffic in Boston, plus the snow and wind - only one runway was open. That said, we made up some decent time in the air and only landed about a half hour after we were scheduled to.

We're supposed to get more snow on Friday. WHY?????

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

They changed the windchill formula since then. What was -63 back then is probably more like -40 these days.

I've been outside when the actual air temperature was -35 - it's tough to describe just what that feels like. You know it's *'ing cold when it's hard to breathe in the air even without wind.

I've played boot hockey in -25 real temps. And I was a goalie, so it's not like I was running around to keep warm. We only lasted 90 minutes out of the planned 3 hours. :(

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Can one feel a difference between -20 and -30?

I remember going outside when it was -11 at UConn... wasn't pleasant... but it wasn't worse than bad.

edit: I still didn't need to turn on the heat in the apartment.

Well, it's -1 here right now, and it was 5 degrees at about 7pm. I could slightly tell the difference. Dunno if that difference is lessened the colder it gets.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Once it gets below 5 degrees I don't really feel the difference if it is calm. Wind changes everything.

Wind is indeed a major factor.

-14 is the low for Friday. And that's still probably about 20 degrees warmer than where bbdl is at. :D

Ha! It is 4 degrees ABOVE ZERO right now! Holy heat wave! (it will probably be back down to 20 below by 7:30 tomorrow morning when I have to head back outside and work some more)

Heh. It's actually warmer there right now. And it just dropped to -2 here, windchill -12.

Although, I have to admit, when it was about 5-6 degrees in the morning this past weekend, I was wearing shorts and a jacket when I went out for a smoke. :D

I just bought socks that have pouches to place warming packs because of how cold my feet got tonight playing hockey outdoors. It was only -2 or -3 while I was on the ice, I think, but my feet really started to get pained in my skates - not insulated and tied tight. I should be all set for Sunday when I'm playing in the pond hockey tournament. It's supposed to be about 10 degrees warmer that day, too.

Whilst tailgating for the MN@MTU series this year, those footwarmers helped a ton. 3~ hours oustide, and we were fine. One day it was about 25, with winds gusting to 40 mph, and the next day it was about 10-15, no wind. Of course, I've learned that steel-toed tennis shoes aren't really built for outside weather. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Morning!

When I was in college at Mansucko they said it got to -70 WC one day. But that was the early 90's, so if they changed the calculation it probably wasn't quite that cold. But I recall it being (or close to) a record. I also recall not leaving the dorms.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 128: The Search for Wenches

Good morning....crazy couple days. We drove to Milwaukee Sunday/Monday so the lad could visit Marquette - gotta love driving in a snowstorm - and it's been busy at work. Hope everyone is doing well. :)
