Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 122: Autumn has arrived.

Morning tLodge. Can I go back to bed?
Sure. Just put your head on your desk and pass out.

Afternoon, Lodge. Picked up my books for school today; looks like I won't have time for anything but the house, cooking, and studying this quarter. Thankfully after October 17, I'll be taking a much needed break from running...

Regarding TVs...

unless you plan on watching a lot of Blu-Rays with a 24 FPS rate, 120 Hz won't make any difference at all. The only benefit it has over 60 Hz is that 120 is an even multiple of both 24 and 30 (the two main frame rates you'll see). 240 Hz is total marketing hooey. Blu-Ray movies outputting a 24 FPS signal look fantastic on a TV with a 60 Hz refresh rate, and look slightly better on a TV with a 120 Hz refresh rate. At 30 FPS you won't notice any difference. FYI - cable/broadcast is at 30 FPS.

1080/720 is all in relation to the type of input signal, and you'll want the best you can find (1080p). The other number to pay attention to is native resolution. If you're going 37" or bigger, make sure that's 1920x1080. Anything smaller and you'll lose definition as the pixels will be bigger. Under 37" and it won't matter so much.

Ignore contrast ratio. Really. Ignore it. It's bull****. Well, it isn't, but measured and reported so dishonestly that it's become crap.

Distance from TV, I've found, doesn't mean much either. Unless you're 2 feet from a 60" TV, it's going to blow your socks off, so get whatever size you like and sit wherever you feel like sitting.

Sounds like we'll be sitting in bb_dl's living room! :p

I just spoke to Dish. Contract negotiations. FSN wants to increase their contract by 50%. As of 10/1 if the contract isn't worked out no FSN until it is.
Darn, I guess that means I won't be able to see how awful the Gopher hockey team is this season until they resolve it.

Good morning boys! Good morning legal ( )

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!! terrible tuesday is upon us.
I'm up that early every week day, I just don't usually get to the board until after I start working at 6am.

Hello, Lodgers. Checking in from the "office". Big week this week with a special birthday coming up. Taking the kiddies to the mall this afternoon to pick up a gift and then will be making 2 cakes this weekend: 1 chocolate with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and chocolate ganache on top (pix have been previously posted in a Cooks thread and on fb) and 1 chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. Baking to be done on Saturday most likely to allow cakes' flavors to come together overnight. I'm also thinking about making homemade tomato sauce this week with the giant can of crushed tomatoes we got at BJ's.

Congrats on the house, dl. Good luck.

Scarlet - did you read about The Bar Formerly Known as T's over in the BU thread? End of an era...though I suppose the era was really over when it became "973 Commonwealth Ave" instead of T's. :(

Went to the giant cathedral in St. Paul on my last trip out there. Pix here. A really gorgeous building.

Mmm. chocolate cake. :)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 122: Autumn has arrived.

I'll get right on that. ;)

please do...I'm tired. :(

Ham Lake, very close to the Andover border. About a mile from Pov's. ;)

sweet, my parents live up that way. Come on up next time I come home.

No screaming baby, but a toddler, about 18 mos. old. Let's see if she can make it thru the flight without crying. Wish me luck. We're about to push back so I'm shutting down. Chat with you all when I get back home!

would you pay more for a child-free flight, out of curiosity, Scarlet?

Yes. But I want to know why parents with kids aren't charged more as well. Especially when they ruin the flights for others.

flights, kinda by default, are already ruined. you are stuck between people and can't move. uncomfortable. little to no selection on food. rude waitresses who have a **** job. recycled air from sick fellow flyers. the only way it works is if you get ripped drunk and pass out. but you usually have to drive to the airport, then the security hassle, then get there early and sit around so you don't get bumped... which takes away time you could be pounding away to insure deep, drunk sleep.

so it's already a lose-lose situation.

most times, that mom whipping out a boob to breastfeed the crying terrorist is the only hope for joy.:D

(just gonna bring the sr poster saturday?)

There should be a refundable behavior deposit to those flying with children. $50 per kid per flight - if the kid behaves, the parents get their money back.

Holy **** - this is EXACTLY what I've said to people! I totally agree with this.

And mookie - yes. I'll bring it then.

because parents don't see kids as their problem. They see them as everyone else's problem. Don't get me wrong; I'm on your side here and agree parents need to be charged. I'm just curious what everyone thinks about it.
