Save your money on all that crap and just have a free open bar. No one cares about that other stuff! :D

open bar. Now that's funny. Considering neither she or I drink that much, an open bar is out of the question. :p

Went to the catcus club for lunch today. They offer sweet potatoe fries as an alternative to regular spuds. Last time I for sweet potaytoe, today I went for white poetato. Both are decent. Burgers ain't that good though. Back to chicken next time.

Why would it matter if you two drink? The reception is for the guests. :p

sweet potatoes are not good.

The end.
Glad someone said it after that sweet potato lovefest...

One comment about your list: Gluten-free is not the same sort of trend as the rest. It is around because of a greater recognition that there is a segment of the population that cannot digest wheat and wheat gluten. Not because of some diet trend. Prior to the emergence of this "trend" it was difficult to find foods that could be safely eaten as gluten often is present in foods that you wouldn't normally expect to find it. [/stepping off my soap box now]
Agree. I have a cousin that has a pretty bad gluten allergy (her dad is also deathly allergic to peanuts). Everything is labeled, and they even have separate a separate butter tub and toaster for her food. By 9 she knew exactly what she could and could not eat and was really good at being careful around foods she couldn't.

Lunchtime! Chicken pot pie and a glass of guava iced tea. Have a good afternoon folks. :)

Scrambled eggs with mushrooms and feta cheese for me. Just finished baking a loaf of bread, and I found the manual to my bread machine.

Tomorrow's lunch will be leftover fish. While I'm at it, might as well find a recipe for tartar sauce. Hell, might as well try making my own mayonnaise.

Quite frankly, I feel like a wedding is about the couple being happy, not the freakin' guests. If a couple chooses to have cupcakes rather than cake, then why the hell not. Some people like cupcakes better!! I'd rather have a bit of extra money to spend on my Honeymoon than at the wedding, when guess what, it all tastes the effing same.
I've seen weddings that were a dam potluck, and guess what, the smiles on everyone's faces were just as big and genuine than at the extravagant weddings I've been to.
Oh, honey... you have a lot to learn.

The whole affair is just as much about the guests as it is the couple. Unless you elope, you have to give your guests some consideration, otherwise, what's the point?

Besides, the couple really should be focusing more on the marriage than the wedding. Easier said than done when in the planning stages, but it needs to be a focus.

Lol, well, I didn't quite mean that. I agree with everything you're saying there.

Or just go to Vegas, you and the guests have fun and an Elvis impersonator does the planning. Plus you could eat cupcake frosting off of a hooker's ***.

No kidding. Picking locations that are in "neutral" areas where it wouldn't be way more convenient for one family over another. Whittling down the guest lists. Setting up a second list of people you want to let the Michigan State Police know aren't invited and are to be kept away from the ceremony...

Haha. You guys are good. You wouldn't get put on that list. (Yet.) ;)

It's about my Dad's side of the family. There's a few I don't want to see.

What do you know. Same with my dad's side of the family.

I have an uncle who was once married to my dad's aunt. They got a divorce. Then he got married to my dad's OTHER aunt. Then she had a kid with someone else but he stayed with her. 25 years later, she left him for an airplane mechanic 20 years younger. Now they're back together.

and since Cosmo/Fitness/all the stupid health magazines promote cupcakes, and since women are generally the trend setters, the cupcake explosion has happened. I mean christ, there's a food network show dedicated to cupcake cook-offs!
btw - I watched that show a few times on your recommendation. Overall cupcakes: meh. People: Unwatchable. I wanted to stab almost every contestant.

Heh - as I learned recently after my parents attended one of their first "country" weddings - it's all about the parents of the bride and groom. The bride's mother and grandfather are lawyers (and fairly world people) and the groom comes from a long line of farmers who insisted on catering the wedding by themselves. My parents were nothing but snarky as were the parents of the bride. Funny, I thought the wedding was to celebrate the couple. I guess we'll see since tcbg and I are are attending 2 weddings next month (one of his cousins and one of my cousins).

we have chosen Denver, not caring about neutral site. You want to see us get married, you're coming to Denver. Plain and simple. We want brunch. You want to see us get married, you're getting brunch. You want to drink beer, you're not getting it at our wedding. People can adapt.

We've got the best parents...
My mom had a dinner thrust on her that she didn't want, so I know she wouldn't do that to us and his parents ended up doing what they wanted because his mom's dad wanted things done his way and his dad said nope, so we know they won't butt in.

It is? I knew we were doing something wrong when we planned our wedding. :p

I think a lot of it depends on one's own situation and how you want things to be.

As we kind of look at things, we're looking for a neutral site to help make it easier for people. Besides, who really wants to come to Detroit?

By the way... when you shared what you guys tasted, the choices sounded wonderful. The quiche (I think it was quiche) sounded the best. Good luck with everything! :)
