Did you get road head from crazy chick in celebration of the win?
No, but I got the distinct impression that I could have. I figured I didn't need to complicate the situation anymore, so I was very strictly friends last night.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 119: Legands of the Foopers

Got an update on my friend who fractured his skull. They removed 1/3 of his skull due to brain swelling. It's a severe head injury. They cooled his body temperature for about 5 days. He also got a tracheotomy due to a lung infection from being on a ventilator. He is now breathing on his own, and is doing much better than expected. He got a hockey helmet to wear when he's out of bed until they put the piece of his skull back. Sounds like there's still a long way to go though...
Wow; hope he heals quickly!

Good morning, Lodge. I can't wait to get this stupid procedure done and over with so I can eat.

So...now that I think about it, yesterday was one of the better days in Minnesota sports in the last couple months.

You aren't kidding. The two top stories on all the sportscenters last night and this morning were about minnesota teams. That RARELY (if ever) happens.

Especially considering we have been stricken with 3 handicaps called "Wild", "Gophers" and "Timberwolves".

So no math and now no texting. What else? ;)

I'm far from being a Luddite (duh :D), but even I find texting to be a redundant technology 90% of the time, and I'm amazed it has become so popular (along with pricey cell phones becoming status symbols). In fact, I often swear that I must come from the only family who uses cell phones almost exclusively for outgoing calls, and keeps them turned off most of the time.

I have never texted. I finally bought a cell phone in January and had the texting ability turned off. :)

Having Lil has made me a bit more reliant on my phone. He can text to tell me he is home from wherever and I can see it without having to take a call at work. Just got a smaaaht phone so when they change his practice I can find out before 10 pm (not allowed to check on internet at work).

Can't understand what seems to be the obsessive clutching of the phone like it was some sort of pacifier. The other day a gaggle of college age gals walked into the restaurant we were in and they were all clutching their phones like they were ventilators or something. I wanted to jam the signal just to see what would happen. Someone should really market a toy for that....:D

I'd rather have the phone capability turned off. :D I absolutely hate talking on the phone and 99.9% of the time will ignore phone calls all together, even if they are from people I like.

Texting is a non intrusive way of saying something to someone without the need for them to be immediately available. Yet also not having to wait for them to be near a computer or home/work phone to check email/messages.

Can't get anyone who calls himself a "tailor" to take my money today...:(

We are another family that uses cell phones just as you do. We feel like dinosaurs but it works for us.:)

Seconded. I call when I need to say a lot/expect it will be a long conversation. Anything pretty short? texting.

This is me too. I avoid talking on the phone to people unless they are close friends and family, I don't have a problem with talking in person, but there is something about being on the phone that freezes me. (this has lead to more than 1 disasterous phone interviews)

I find texting to be very handy when I'm having a casual conversation with a friend, while we're both at work, and can't really talk, but texting works. If I get busy with something I can just ignore the texts for a while, and its no big deal. It also gives me time to think out what I'm going to say before I make an *** out of myself, which I don't get to do on the phone. :p

It's a shame that some cell phone company hasn't realized that they'd make a killing being just a "Data" provider (ie: like DSL/Cable Internet) and route voice calls as data.

But they're complacent in charging for "minutes of use," "texts (which actually reside as extra data sent with phone calls)," and "Data," when all three are the same thing.

The one thing that bugs me is that I have unlimited "data", but texts aren't included. Which is why I use BBM as much as possible.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 119: Legands of the Foopers

Mrs. g and I are looking at all of the technology in our lives and debating what we "need" to have versus what is "nice" to have. It is not entirely a money thing but mostly about getting rid of things in our lives that we don't need. Rather than spending time in front of screens (tv or computer or cell phones) it should be spent doing things that are more productive.

Things on the chopping block:

DSL at home
Land line at home
Dish with a gazillion channels that are worthless
Cell phones with all the bells and whistles

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 119: Legands of the Foopers

My neighbor just gave me his Blackberry. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I've got the cell phone that is paid for by the office, the DSL at home, and a land line so that older members of my family can easily find and reach me. I'm thinking about going to wireless DSL and the Blackberry, but it's going to end up costing me about $25-30 more a month over what I have now.
