Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

got a serious question for everyone:

the company that purchased us and ultimately put us on the street is offering to hire some of us. I have the application in front of me. Question is, do I pull the trigger and go to work for this company?

SG, My wife's brother-in-law recently went through the same scenario as you pose in your post. In short, he applied for a job with the new "parent" company and was hired at a similar position to the one he held with his former employer. I should add he is something of an expert in the field of gas and oil exploration with thirty years of expertise in his field.

Needless to say it's a difficult job market right now all across the country. I don't know the particulars about your employment background and am certainly not asking you to divulge them on a public forum. The one question I'd suggest you consider is whether or not you have a "better" offer you can pursue if you don't apply for a job with the company in question.

Good luck to you whatever choice you make.

Morning, *ers. I wish I could sleep in sometimes.

Oh well. Gives me some time to work on the topic du jour.
I slept in enough for both of us... I didn't get out of bed until after 11am. :o

Get well.

The g's will be heading to the inlaws tomorrow for Easter. I. Can't. Wait.
We're heading to my husband's cousin's house for dinner tomorrow. (she lives about 3 hours away near Raleigh). Not sure what to expect, I've never met any of his cousins. For that matter I've only met 2/3rds of his siblings. :o

<---- is fortunate he enjoys spending time with his family and in-laws.

In fact, with the amount of time the CD & I spend with "the sisters" and husbands it's almost like I married into the mob. :D
I love spending time with my family and I like hanging out with my husband's twin sister. I haven't spent enough time with the rest of his family to know how I feel about them yet.

I am fortunate that I spent time with my family last weekend so I don't have to this weekend! :D

Oh and I learned yesterday that Ralph Baer is considered the Father of Video Games. He is credited with, among other things, inventing the light gun.

Thanks for that Ralph, I loved Duck Hunt!
Um.. yeah, I think the rest of us know that years ago. :p (seriously, it has been discussed in the cafe before)

I was going to reply, but I this ASaaG said it all.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Is there a reason for you not to?

yeah. I hate the company. It yanked the rug out from under my feet. It took a great small airline and is disbanding it. It's putting me and 350 other employees out on the street and forcing a lot of people to scramble for employment. When they ask in the interview why do you want to work for us, I want to tell them to *k off.

But it's a means to an end, right?

I'd say swallow your pride... its tough out there and I'd rather have something in hand rather than not. Frankly, I don't want to see anybody go through the wringer if they don't have to... my father, from what i understand, is coming off unemployment insurance. This is really no time to mess around.

My guess is for a pilot (where constant training is required) it's probably better to work there than have a hole in your resume'?

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Well, I finally got some great news yesterday. After several months hoops to jump thru, along with a few pounds of flesh, I've finally gotten Michigan No Worker Left Behind to pay for the rest of my classes. Only been trying to get them to do that since August. Three Jeers for Bureaucracy!!!

Anyways, thats a whole lot less for me to worry about now, just need to line up another body for my Myo Homework that will be due Friday morning. Thinking of going to the Apple Store in AA to go get an iTouch as a way to celebrate. :D

I love mine! I got the 64gb and glad I did.

BTW, when I got mine I found it to be cheapest online at Best Buy; so I ordered it and picked it up in an hour or so.

Well, I've done about as much as I can do around home. Now I need to find something to do the rest of the afternoon and evening. I decided to not go golfing, i'll avoid the family until tomorrow. Its not as warm as it looks today. Anyone looking for something to do?

Back from bike riding. I don't think that I have ever seen so many people looking at the cherry blossoms as today.

You're welcome. :D I don't think that has come up on USCHO in over a year. :)

I'm going to see if the CVS has any Cadbury Mini Eggs left later :p

Might as well send in the app, and yes, resist the urge to fill it out by taking a big steaming dump on it. Unemployment sucks, and having a job with them now would put you in a better position to look for a better job elsewhere at your leasure. ;)

Yeah, Don't think I'm going to go for the 64gb. seems a bit much for what I would want it for, which would be mostly to keep some tunes on it for work perhaps, and to be able to surf the web for scores when I'm off at games. Most schools now have Wireless Intarwebs, so other than some of the newer schools in Ohio in the GLIAC, I should be able to use it everywhere. I was really taking a look at the 8gb, but now that the iPad is out, they might be dropping prices on everything else, so I might go snag a 16 gb.
