Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

He's now a part of the Georgetown Class of 2014. I think he's disappointed, but I am incredibly proud. He was accepted early action and I think he's a genius.

good for him! (and why would anyone want to go to Columbia?!?!)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Georgetown: Safety School? :p Congrats to him!

IB: The Brad Pitt one.

It took one of my posts of ridiculing Sterling Cooper before he resorted to the post-count argument. That alone shows how stupid that guy is.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I so badly wanted to post this in the "Easter 2010: Alleluia, Christ has risen!" thread: Greatest comeback since BU over Miami.

But even I have rare moments of restraint & taste.......so I posted it here. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I need to decide if I want to apply for a supervisor position. They originally posted it around Thanksgiving but apparently either didn't get enough applicants or the ones who applied weren't sufficiently qualified, so now they are re-posting it.

Pros:
- day position
- no weekends or holidays
- good career move
- higher pay long-term

Cons:
- more stress/responsibility
- lower pay for the first 2-3 years
- inspections are coming soon (don't know if they will fill the position by then)
- the senior tech retired which means having to fill that vacancy in the near future / deal with those responsibilities in the meantime
- having meetings with management

I'd post it. Go for it. Like I told Brent last weekend, my normal thought process is 'eh, this is probably a bad idea...POST!' :D

Go for it. It sounds like a good move, you might think its a pain in the *** now, but I'd bet you'll be glad you did it in the future.

Yep.

And I posted in the thread. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

Sadly, my brother heard from all the Ivies that he applied to earlier this week (Penn, Harvard, and Columbia), and he didn't get into any of them...He's now a part of the Georgetown Class of 2014. Yeah, I had a player who heard from Yale that he got in. He wasn't happy though, because he didn't get into the school at Oxford that he wanted.

Yeah, I'd be disappointed too if Yale (or Georgetown) was my safety school. :p

God help anyone you supervise. :p

I'd say go for it but the other item you need to consider is how much do you like what you're doing? If you become a supervisor it will mean less lab/bench time & if you truly love this aspect of your job it could become frustrating.

Good luck with your decision.

Yeah, that would sum my thoughts on it as well I think. You would still be a pain in the ***, but you would be the pain in the *** that got things done and correctly, which is pretty **** important in your department.

Besides, you get that Supervisor job, that will leave you too busy to put things in order for you to try to take over the world. ;) :D

The long-term aspects are appealing, but the short-term is going to be a real ****fest. I also know that one of the applicants the first time around was a blood bank specialist who's been over there since before I started. If she isn't qualified, it'll be tough to claim that I am. I can make the argument of being on 3rd shift and being autonomous, but it could be a tough sell in an interview - since nobody interviewing me has the first clue about what 3rd shift is truly like (it's difficult to really get people to understand it who have never worked it - it is truly a unique shift).

GE - I like some aspects of the bench work, but the nature of my shift doesn't really allow me to like them that much - because I'm trying to multitask / race through as much as I can to prevent the incoming work from really piling up. It'd be a major adjustment for me - going from nights to days would be a total 180 on my lifestyle. Beyond that, it'd be going from a minimal staffed shift to a full one (more people in blood bank by itself than on my entire shift now). There's also the going from having to do things in 5 different areas to just being in one... and of course going from being a pawn to being in charge. It's a lot to think about.

I think you gave my son the whole who cares go for it speech at the FF last year, and now he's thinking of going to UND. Way to go, Sparky. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

I posted in the easter thread. :D

I've also now found a way to wander down to a bar. They have bouncyball on, this team has way too many white boys to be this good.

It won't hurt to give it a try. If it doesn't work out, then oh well, nothing lost.

Ah, yeah, I might have been slightly under the influence...sorry about that. I wouldn't wish siouxdom on anyone.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 107: Now What??

No worries, you guys were awesome. Plus, now there's no chance he will go to MTU. :p

:D I piled on, too. :)
That's good. Before the championship game we started drinking at about 4 and ran into some fellow tech alums. We drank quite a bit in just a couple hours. Then we ended up running to the green turtle during intermissions and each ordering 2 doubles, and slamming them before the next period. That was a good night. I ended up hitting on an unattractive asian before the night was through.
