Quinnipiac Bobcats 2022-23: The Quest Continues...

As a Cornell fan, living here in CT, I wanted to swing by and say congratulations on an amazing regular season. Unreal in so many ways. Best of luck getting to LP, competing there and making noise in the NCAA's. At this point it has to be Tampa or bust. Good luck, no pressure! :)

Ha! We’re the squad with two NHL draft picks (that play). Where’s the pressure comin from?
Aren’t we David?….and Minnesota Goliath?

Nice try. QU is no longer a David. A decade of dominance and several runs in the NCAA's. I think it's Goliath vs Goliath if either team can manage the gauntlet to get there.

That’s up to one’s interpretation of a Goliath. IMHO a program with double digit NHL draft picks is a Goliath…..ones with <5…..are Davids.
in the early 2000s when I played and we just became D1, we seemed to have the same amount of draft picks we do now lol…..trying to beat Mercyhurst to get into the tourney. We have a Goliath of a coach….that’s where the term fits.

I can respect your opinion, but national championships are not often won by high draft picks, they are won mostly by veteran teams which in a lot of cases are not filled with draft picks. Just look at my team. MN hasn't won a title in 20 years, a big part of that was chasing the top guys and not the "right" guys. Herb Brooks was ahead of his time understanding this.

Another good example is UMD. They had a 4-5 year run of very dominant play with a very limited amount of high draft pick players.

I would not consider us a David anymore. I'm not sure I'd call us a Goliath, but we are one of the best 15 programs in college hockey in the last 10 years, and we might even be top 10.

I think that's fair. You're certainly a Goliath in the ECAC, but maybe nationally top 10 is reasonable. The question is, what is the cutoff to be a goliath...Another way to think about it is...how consistently has QU been a top level pairwise team at year end in the last 11 years? I chose 11 because that's when QU really began it's run. The average year end pairwise over that time is 11. As a comparison MN has an average of 8.6 in that time. Pretty closely aligned.

On another note - I'll give all QU fans a nod for being intelligent hockey fans on this forum. We all have our biases, but it's been fun talking to a group who has the ability to talk to other fans without getting nasty or completely irrational. Thanks for helping me scratch my endless itch to talk hockey.

I think we need to win the big trophy before we can be considered a Goliath. Being near the top is nice but we need to make it to the pinnacle.

also a good point. I figure QU is probably my #3 in terms of favorites to win. DU #1, MN #2, QU #3. Until someone figures out how to handle DU in the playoffs I think they have to be the favorite again.

Appreciate you jumping in and sharing some of your western perspective.

Think that is an accurate statement and most Quinnipiac people on here would agree. Excited to see these next 5+ weeks play out. Think we will play up to the challenge due to veteran leadership

I think that leadership will make a run too. Reminds me a lot of Minn State last year.

According to the UConn ticket site, next year's Connecticut Ice Tournament will be held at Hartford's XL Center. January 26-27, 2024.

2023-24 Hockey Season Tickets - UConn Athletics Ticket Office

It seems UConn's coach wants to host the tournament every year at XL. Meanwhile Coach Pecknold wants its rotated between the four schools, which I totally agree with. Why should one school get to host it every year? Spread it around!

Colgate eliminates Dartmouth, which means the Raiders play at SLU next weekend and we have to wait until tomorrow to find out who our quarterfinal opponent is.

Sadly, the Quinnipiac women were ousted from the ECAC playoffs tonight by Colgate. Another fantastic season for the women, who will likely get an at large bid to the NCAA tournament.

ECAC Quarterfinals matchups set. We have Yale next.

Yale at #1 Quinnipiac
Princeton at #2 Harvard
Clarkson at #3 Cornell
Colgate at #4 St. Lawrence

I said to an alum buddy earlier today, I want Yale to beat RPI tonight so they are a part of our postseason run. Won’t ever undo Pittsburgh, but if this is the year, I want them to be a part of our postseason run haha
