Quinnipiac Bobcats 2022-23: The Quest Continues...

Who knows, maybe this is the year we meet in the NCAA!? Best of luck to your team the rest of the way.

Haven’t seen many of your games this year but watched the second Wisco game. I read some commentary from Minn fans that said it was a pitiful performance, so I won’t hold that one against you haha.

Big Ten is very strong this year, good to see. Makes some sense on the lack of travel as you have many rivals that aren’t in the Big Ten in the west. But you haven’t travelled east to play an eastern team (Mich St at MSG and an Eastern NCAA regional don’t count) since Nov 27th 2016, that’s an absolute joke. And in turn no Eastern team goes to your place cause you won’t agree to come east in return. Hard to say you aren’t dodging eastern teams with those facts. I’m positive Rand would bring the boys out to MN next year if it meant you would return the trip.

Nonetheless, yes maybe this is the year. Would love to see them play on a Sat in the sun of Florida ;)

OMG - the series against Wisco was frankly embarrassing at this stage of the season. Especially with the talent and clinching the B1G on the line. I get it early in the season, but this has not been a team that has typically struggled to give 110% so it's puzzling. I'll feel better if we can split on the road this weekend, but we'll see.

The last team I remember coming to us from the east is BC, probably the date you're referring to. We enjoyed an 8-1 win I think if memory serves. We used to get eastern schools here when we hosted a holiday tourney, but nothing much since we stopped that. As a fan, I would love to see one series a year from eastern teams. BC/BU/Harvard/QU for sure would be cool. I also miss playing against Maine as we had a rivalry with them the last time we were championship relevant lol.

I'd like an opinion from you QU fans...is this team better than last years? If so, what is the key reason you think they are improved?

Experience. With our seniors, transfers, and grad students, we have a ton of on ice experience. Some skilled players as well. And it all just came together game 1. Last years team was similar but I personally think this years team also has heart. Nobody takes shifts off. Just keep grinding.

I think those upper classmen are so valuable come NCAA time, especially on the blue line. As I'm sure you well educated hockey folks know teams with immense young talent like MN and Mich typically struggle when they get leaned on by older, stronger, smart players. See last years MSU team as the prime example. We are older on the blue line this year and are better than last year as well, but it's still not clear if we can stay in the physical game when it counts. For us, if you can keep the top line to one goal you probably win, if not it's probably not going to end well for the other team.

That BC game was Oct 27 2013, 6-1 win after a tie the night prior. Minn has traveled to BC twice since then. Outside of some of the smaller schools (Niagara in 2020, St Lawrence in 2019) there hasn't been much action between the eastern powers of the last 10 years. UMass went out there, but that was before Carvel went there and made them formidable. Hopefully that happens sooner rather than later. I know the QU fans on here would love to see that

I agree with Mark on the experience, but we have to mention Colin Graf. He has changed our offense, he already has more pts this year than anyone on the team did last year and he's helped transform our biggest weakness last year, the PP, into a strength. We were 50th last year and are 16th this year. I forgot how much we sucked at the PP last year.

I found the one I remember being at..it was 8-1 in 2012 vs BC.

Now that I took a closer look, we actually played a ton of eastern teams under Don Lucia. I found 16 different series over 5 or so years. Since Bob took over, we have nothing. Wonder why schedulers went away from it because if you actually look we played 3-4 series/games a year against the east under Don.
From 13-14 to his last year in 17-18 we played the following regular season ( I did not include any AHA teams):

Union, Clarkson (2x), Harvard x2, St Low, BC x2, Northeastern x2, Umass, Vermont, Uconn, New Hamp, Colgate, Rensselaer.

I'm a little depressed... today my wife and I both tested positive for Covid. She has a 102 fever, I just have some congestion and sniffles. Needless to say I must, for the first time since the Bank opened on January 28, 2007, miss my first home games. On senior weekend... against Yale!

It was a good 16 year run but I guess all streaks must end eventually.

I'm heartbroken but believe me I'll be screaming at home watching the ESPN+ feed!

We're those all road games?

Feel better, Mark. This thing can still be nasty, even with full vaccination.

Sorry to hear that Mark. I hope you guy's feel better soon. We haven't been able to make it up to Hamden this year :( Luckily We have been able to stream every game and have been cheering them from our home on Long Island. It's been an amazing season for sure.

Pretty terrible first 35 minutes. Lethargic, no energy, and lazy up until our first goal. Looked like that goal woke the boys up and we were off to the races after that.

Not sure we respected our opponent the way we started the game, but a great sign we were able to rebound.

So they can win without me in the house...

Real sluggish first 30-35 minutes. Sam Lipkin turned everything around in :37 seconds and there was no stopping them.

Congrats on the Cleary but lots of work left to do. Keep the pedal to the metal.

Honest question: Does the team know it won the regular-season title tonight? No mention on the athletics website, no mention on Twitter ... super strange.

Smells like Rand wanting nothing to do with a celebration, eyes on the real prizes.

Mark, hope you feel better soon

Wow, what an impressive streak! Myself, I think I missed only 2 or 3 home games since the 2006-07 season. (I too don't count the Covid season without fans)

Hope you feel better, Mark. Missed seeing you wave the flag from across the rink last night!
