Quinnipiac Bobcats 2021-22 - Let's get this party started!

And there's still 3 more seniors we haven't heard from!

Great news for next season. Add a few big, able bodies from the portal and we'll have another strong roster.

So why does a player like Smilanic go into the portal? do not get it, going to transfer around every year?

I don't think you can transfer more than once and not sit out, but I could be wrong. He might not fit in, or maybe was told he doesn't fit in. After Worlds he wasn't the same. Could have been injured, but he was injured in Jr's which is presumably what had other Big Schools shy away from him and what dropped him to 3rd round in the draft. If you remember the hype was he could be a 1st rounder. He tried to go one on one a lot in the second half and it didn't go well. Could be injury but maybe not. I don't think it's a "huge" blow to QU's chances.

What helped us was we didn't suffer one bad loss all season long. The six losses heading into the NCAAs were to teams ranked 23 or higher in the PW. We beat or tied all the lousy teams on the schedule. Had we had just one bad loss, our pairwise would've certainly dropped considerably.
Sure, but you have to get up for the big games, too. 1-5-1 against Harvard, Clarkson, and Cornell this season did not bode well for NCAA tournament success. Quinnipiac needs to worry about beating the ECAC it’s got, rather than wishing for a better one. Careful what you wish for….

With all the good news of the players returning for a 5th year this is a punch in the gut. He definitely didn’t seem right after he got hurt at World Juniors. He is a terrific player and a great skater. His talent will be missed. Sad day for the program…….

Maybe I missed it but have we heard about some of the other seniors who could take the extra covid year?

I know about Metsa, de Jong, Burgart, and Lombardi all coming back.

Any news on Bonjo, Van Nes, Chorney, Friedmann?

Van Nes I believe is done. The only one I want back from that bunch is Bongiovanni. They need to turn the keys over to some younger players.

When we join Hockey East you’ll be crying because the conference will lose its best program over past 10 years…..period….so beg us to stay

I can promise you there won't be many tears if (when?) Quinnipiac leaves the ECAC for Hockey East. I am all for strengthening the ECAC, but you can't deny Rand does things quite a bit differently over at Quinnipiac as compared to the other ECAC schools. Quinnipiac sees a large number of kids transferring into and out of the program every year, way more than the other ECAC schools (notwithstanding years where a program is undergoing a coaching change such as Union this season). Just today it was announced that Union's second leading scorer, Collin Graf, will be transferring to Quinnipiac.

Makes you wonder how Rand is running things. Each program is allotted 18 scholarships. With all the players returning for a fifth year, as well as the players transferring in, how are there enough scholarships to support the underclassmen? There's no question teams are using the transfer portal more than ever before--this is not limited to just Quinnipiac. What Rand seems to be doing, however, is not only using the portal to "plug holes," but instead to upgrade every position possible, even if it means telling players, "sorry, no scholarship for you next year, find somewhere else to play." Quinnipiac has been very successful doing things Rand's way--I just hope the kids who commit to Quinnipiac know what they're signing up for.

I have them projected for 9 incoming freshman next season. They are doing what pretty much every school is doing now with the new transfer rules where you don’t have to sit out a year.

It would be interesting to do a comparison against other schools. I quickly skimmed the transfer portal for number of non-seniors in the portal (whether committed to transfer to another school or uncommitted as of now) from each ECAC school:
Harvard--0
Princeton--0
Dartmouth--0
Yale--0
Brown--0
Cornell--1
St. Lawrence--1
Clarkson--1
Colgate--2
RPI (coaching uncertainty)--2
Union (coaching change)--4
Quinnipiac--5
