Quinnipiac Bobcats 2021-22 - Let's get this party started!

For "the research" to say such a thing, I would think someone would have to have done it, and had it work out. Can you, or anybody, cite instances of that being the case? A coach pulling the goalie at six minutes, down a goal, and gone on to win the game? At five minutes? At four? The 'sample size' of such games even attempted must be miniscule?

Here's a few links:

Well that was not what I was expecting.

Bobcats were the better team for a big chunk of the first and pretty much the entire third. Give Portillo credit, he made a number of outstanding saves.

As others have said the shorty was the killer. Or at least it seemed to be. But damn the Bobcats had no quit in them. They had Michigan totally on their heels.

We can argue Rand's decision to pull the goalie so early. But it's something he has done before, it was not a huge surprise.

Great season overall. At this point QU is an established top 10 program. What do they have to do to get back to the Frozen Four and finally win? IMHO they need a bit more scoring punch. A couple of first/second round pick forwards who may only stay a year or 2 but in the right year could get us over the hump.

Yes they need more one and done kids, maybe guys who stay only two years. To me character and culture only take you so far. You need the horses to win against the Big Dogs and Quinnipiac just doesn’t have enough of them. They have been to 7 NCAA tournaments since 2013 and two Frozen Fours yet they are still struggling to attract high end talent even with one of the better rinks in the east.

My thoughts on the Rand decision was it was inexcusable at the time. If the score was 4-2 instead of 4-3 then I have zero problem with it. You had Michigan coming apart at the seams and you gave them all the momentum back. St. Cyr should have been out at the 2 minute mark at the earliest.

It’s time to hit the portal again. They need to add some depth that way. Of the real seniors not the grad transfers they may get back. I could see Friedmann returning but it wouldn’t shock me if he played a 5th at say Lindenwood which is in his hometown of St. Louis. No inside information on that but that could be a scenario I see.

If this is "advanced metrics" at play, it really shows that the numbers loonies have taken hold.

Why isn't anyone talking about the stoppage for the Michigan goalies equipment malfunction? Seemed like an eternity and did as much to settle down the Wolverines as the ENG did. Seems like the refs should have at a minimum forced Pearson to use his time out, or go to a backup goalie. Not sure if there's a rule pertaining to that type of incident but it did seem to work in their favor.

None of this matters today any how. We lost and that's that. Nothing that happened this weekend changes what we were able to do this season. We finished 8th in the pairwise which itself is very impressive considering where the ECAC was this year.

Sure, I would have loved going to Boston, but am very grateful for what the boys got done this year.

Selfish me would like to see him return to Hamden. I think he’s earned a letter if he does.

I get the desire to win at all costs but I’m also a bit of a traditionalist. QU is known as a 4 year program, most if not all graduated, got good grades and some got Masters degrees. I don’t think either Rand or Greg would be up for a rent a player scenario. One of the things that impressed me the most was in 2018, when my daughter got her MBA, Chris Thrule walked across the stage to get his. It was a year after he left the program.

Mark, I think you’re correct and may have played into Rand’s decision to try to get some momentum back.

NOBODY has ever pulled a goalie with six to go, and won a game.

Never.

Technically correct but last week, Rand pulled Perets with 6:20 left against Harvard, QU scored 4 seconds later and the game ended up going to OT. No they didn’t win, but it gave them a chance.

i sure did Mark! Right on their page….called em out and the controversial shady coach…who canceled a game against Western Michigan because he best players were at World Juniors.

Why isn’t anyone talking about the clear cross check or at least interference call when they scared that SHG?!!! Metsa got thrown to the ice which led to that breakout near Jayden Lee.

Sure….we’d love 7 first round draft picks…can you give them a call? Let’s face it we play a system and it’s worked before….2013/2016

we’re playing “Billie Ball” like the Oakland A’s…no stars….just pieces that fit together.

and I’m afraid to admit….yesterday we brought ponies to a horse race. They actually made our D look like they were skating with a piano on their back…..damn I want a National Championship….Union did it….so can we

First off, fantastic season. I know we didn't reach our ultimate goal, but we sure did come close to punching our ticket to Boston. After last year's covid abbreviated season without fans, I made a promise at the beginning of this season to make as many games as possible. I ended up going to 35 of the 42 games - putting almost 3,800 miles on the ol' war wagon. Could have been more if our games at Yale, Princeton, RPI and Cornell allowed visiting fans.

I'm anxious to see what next year brings. Obviously, we're losing a lot of key players. I'm also anxious to see what our OOC schedule will look like. We know we have 2 games in Belfast, 2 games at North Dakota and likely 2 games at ASU's spiffy new rink. Plus the Connecticut Ice Tournament, which will be moving to the campus sites (rotated between the 4 schools, I'm sure). I'd love to see UMass or Northeastern back on the schedule and more games against western schools. We need a solid OOC schedule to make up for what will likely be another off year for the ECAC.

Drew, we did that in 2017-18 hitting all 38 games. Great job, lots of fun. Didn’t know CT ice was coming to campus rink, I think that’s a win!

Oh I remember! That must have been fun!

SNY only had a 2 year deal at Webster Bank Arena (now Total Mortgage Arena). Plus with SHU and UConn getting new rinks, it only makes sense to move the tournament to the campus sites.

If I'm not mistaken doesn't the Belfast tourney allow us 2 addition games on the schedule? That would certainly help to beef up the OOC stuff provided the right teams are chosen.

It's important to remember that some OOC games are scheduled very late in order to fill empty dates on the calendar. That somewhat limits the available competition.

Until the 4 lower Ivy's get back up to speed, the ECAC as a whole will remain somewhat weak from a PWR viewpoint. I still say finishing 8th in the pairwise was pretty remarkable with the way the overall league performed.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was mentioned that the tourney was still going to be in Bridgeport for the next 3 yrs. Or was that SNY remaining as the sponsor?

Don't ever get old... sometimes I can't even remember my name!
