Quinnipiac Bobcats 2021-22 - Let's get this party started!

Pitiful effort. We are so lucky we played what had to be one of the worst goalies in the NCAA. Worst defensive efforts I can remember since 2012. That clear with the goalie pulled? WTF was that?!?

No. Hell no. There's no such thing as a pitiful effort when you win an NCAA Tournament game. St. Cloud St. is really good. We could have played better. We got lucky with their goaltending situation. But we won the damn thing. They don't ask how. We move on. Gritty effort against a hell of a hockey team. Going to have to be a hell of a lot better on Sunday.

Sorry not sorry. Survive and advance but I need to take a shower after that one cause I feel dirty advancing. We got completely outplayed in every facet except goaltending

As ugly as it was, they never gave up and got it done. They never ask how, just how many and we got enough to make it count. Sunday will take a near perfect effort but I feel they know what they need to do.

No apologies. Did North Dakota apologize when Sam Anas played a national championship game on one leg?

Good win no matter what!

I've seen similar arguments in the NHL, and sometimes I feel like hockey fans forget that goaltending is part of the team, too. We could afford to be not as good with the skaters because we have the best goaltender in the country.

Tonight, we needed our best player to be our best player. He was, so we escape. I don't feel bad, it doesn't feel dirty. It feels like we used the biggest advantage we had and we took advantage of it. I feel for SCSU because to not have your starter in the NCAA Tournament is a brutal position to be in. But it is what it is. As Rand said postgame, it's the mark of a good team to win despite not playing well. Going to take a huge effort to beat Michigan on Sunday, but this team is capable of it.

Good teams find a way and that's just what they did tonight. This team has never given up in a game this season, and tonight was no exception.

Good gritty win.

Now we just need Melissa and Maddy to show up wearing their QU Sweaters

They Belong!

There are no bad tournament wins.

Sunday will be an interesting day for me. I have 2 sons. The older one is a QU alum, the younger a Michigan alum. I follow both teams. Hence my user name.

We got tickets and we are coming to the game on Sunday. We have been waiting for this since 2014 when my younger guy was a freshman at Michigan. We are all excited and whoever wins everyone will be fine with it. Both of my sons root for the other team regularly. Sunday of course they will be behind their respective alma makers. I will be Switzerland, LOL!

My take on Michigan. It's not a revelation to say they are the most talented team in the country. And they are playing their best hockey the last 3-4 weeks. However they are also a young team. They have had trouble with older, heavier teams that play a highly structured game. Does that remind you of anyone? They lost to Notre Dame 4 times in low scoring, tightly played games before breaking through in the Big 10 tournament semi final.

This game won't be easy. QU will have to play their best game. But if they do I think a win is possible.

Looking forward to Sunday!

Exactly. You did catch a break with their backup goalies playing instead of their #1. But so what? You advanced and that's all that matters. Think of it this way. Last Saturday, you guys outshot and outplayed us by a wide margin yet we came away with the trophy. Now you're on the other end and you should feel great that you get another shot at coming to Boston in two weeks. And you're the last of the New England schools standing. So a lot to be proud of at the moment.

Of the six eastern hockey programs to start the NCAA tournament (HE, ECAC, AH) the Bobcats are the only team left standing, after the first round. Good luck on Sunday. Here is hoping you can make it to Boston on April 7.

I’ve come off my frustration from yesterday a little. Definitely the worst defensive game I can remember, but yes survive and advance. Looking forward to us getting back to our usual defensive selfs. I’ll take the offense from yesterday again though. As has been mentioned, people are calling this Michigan team the most skilled college hockey team to ever be assembled. Time to be (Sleeping) giant slayers. Perets will continue to bring his A game and give us a shot.

I am sure you guys will debate it all summer, but that decision to pull the goalie by Rand with four minutes left as his team was dominating the game was terrible . Great season by the team.

Oh well... a valiant effort that came up short. Not sure what Rand was thinking when he pulled St Cyr but nothing we can do about that now. Once again, this team never quit. Their grittiness in the 3rd was unbelievable. They took the wind right out of Michigan's sails. It hurts, but the fact that we had such a great season softens the blow just a little.

Thanks to the seniors and grad transfers who put together a team culture that was almost unbeatable. We're losing a lot of talent but they've set the table for the future and we'll be back.

Is it October yet?

He’s lived by that sword for a while. Just seemed odd with the team having all the momentum. Oh well, thanks to the Seniors and Grads. Interesting to see who returns or transfers out. I’ll miss watching this bunch. Was a fun year.

I had no particular interest in who won - I'm mostly a Wisconsin women's team fan - but for the whole time until the goal and then for minutes after, I kept repeating "Oh, NO! No, no, no.... no, no! Dude, no! No, no, no...."

Horrible decision….my three teenagers were even like….why Is he doing that?!!
We had all the momentum….didn’t even need another skater….but one bad pass and loss of possession against that team….game over….Rand! You were buzzing….too risky with 4 minutes left.

Luke Hughes best college player I’ve seen since Cal Makar….gonna be an NHL top Dman for many years

According to the advanced metrics, you actually should pull the goalie earlier than you would otherwise think, because it gives you more of a chance to get that goal. Yes, it also gives you more of a chance of giving up an ENG, but the advanced metrics say you should take that chance. Most coaches wait too long to pull the goalie, and their teams never really get the chance. It blew up so it was the wrong decision, but it was the right move to make. Maybe it was 30-60 seconds too early, but you'd be surprised how early the advanced stats say goalies should be pulled in that situation.

As for the game, incredible fight by Quinnipiac. Michigan was incredible tonight; no wonder they're the No. 1 team in the country. They scored on every chance they had, and Quinnipiac just wasn't nearly as lethal. But we hung with them throughout the game. After the first 5 minutes, we were fine in the first two periods. Not great, and could have gotten more, but we were fine.

Kind of felt like Perets ran out of gas at the end of the season. He still made some incredible saves, but he definitely wasn't nearly as good the last two weekends. Still an incredible season and he should finish high up the Hobey ranks.

Sad the season is over, but we proved we belong with the big dogs. We played in a weak ECAC, but we were no fluke. No shame in going out to the Wolverines this season.
