Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

ECAC fans would like to see Q Pac decamping in favor of its New England brethren and being replaced by a more compatible HC or RIT

Some of the resentment of Q right now is just plain sour grapes. People only started hating us in the 60s when we started winning. :) Before that they thought we were cute.

Part of it is the perception that Q, like UVM before them, is an outlier from the conference academic model. Q responds that their push for pub is another step in building the school which in turn will allow them to raise standards over time. That may well be the case: everybody has to start somewhere.

The Ivies, or at least HYP, have a dim view of that type of electioneering... but then again, they would, wouldn't they? Their rice bowl is the exact opposite end of the street. So if that were the extent of their influence I would not worry about it that much if I were Q.

But it isn't: the Ivies control where the ECAC goes, which is why HE broke off in the first place, and because Ivy cache is 100% academics 0% athletics they have no problem cutting off their sporting nose. c.f., Dartmouth 1980, who didn't even wait for the Ivies to do it -- they did it themselves!

The Q prez may feel it is worth it, and I don't get the impression that the ECAC fans' irritation with Q is shared by the ECAC members administrations, so Q may well stay. My advice is if you ever want to bolt, do it now, because this period of dominance will pass. Merrimack is only in HE because Jim Hrivnak got hot at the right time.

You only bolt if you are going to commit to being among the elite of HE with BC, BU and others. If they are a middle of the road HE team it doesn't make sense at all to make the move.

Just spoke to a representative at the Times Union Center, NO re-entry allowed between games on Saturday.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Quinnipiac would need to step up their recruitment big time if they want to survive in the HE. Q has one of the best looking campuses in the country and they do an amazing job shuttling the students around the New Haven County area. I do not think they will have an issue bringing in bigger recruit, I mean 60% women is a decent selling point and for those of you who don't think that's a factor, you are lying to yourself. What I truly think will happen is that Quinnipiac will stay in the ECAC for the same reason I think RIT would benefit from stay in AH, why would you give up a sure thing. Yeah the ECAC and the AH are kind of the butt of the joke when it comes to College Hockey but these smaller schools are starting to make MUCH more noise come Tournament time. Would these same schools be able to do this if they played in the NCHC or HE who knows but what we do know is that we can make the Tournament almost every year where we are now. I have always loved the thought of Quinnipiac playing in the Hockey East and I think if they did UCONN would turn into a great Private v. State rivalry. They would also push each other in the recruitment process as well.

I would be happy either way.

If there's an ECAC opening, RIT will apply for it. Same reason Quinnipiac moved on from Atlantic Hockey, despite consistent appearances in the MAAC/AHA title game -- we're not satisfied with occasional visits to the NCAA Tournament. We want to be a national player and in contention for at-large berths.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Couldn't the Golden Domers have kept this quiet until after the Frozen Four? I sure hope all this chatter doesn't become a distraction to any of the teams still playing.

To be fair to Notre Dame, it's not like they went around the town square screaming, "HEAR YE HEAR YE! WE'RE LEAVING HOCKEY EAST FOR THE BIG TEN!"

They informed Hockey East of their intention to leave, which they had to do, and someone squeaked to the media. I'm sure if they had their say, the leak wouldn't have happened and they would have announced at the very least after they were eliminated from the tournament, if not just wait for the championship game. Now they still have a tournament to play in but all anyone's going to be asking about is this.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Pecknold's classless behavior has only added to this perception

I'm not trying to stir up any sh*t here, but was wondering if you could elaborate. Is this primarily based on things during games (like the asking for an embellishment when a kid on the other team gets boarded)? Or is there something else I as a fan should be aware of?

A lot of people do not like a boisterous, out-spoken person. Rand is a very strong personality, he doesn't get pushed around, he says what's on his mind, and he is a tough nosed guy. These are all traits that make people standoffish. I, for one, don't think Quinnipiac could/would survive without a coach like Rand. He is a total Connecticut guy, from the way that he speaks to the way he conducts himself. The hard nosed, gritty spirit of Hamden hockey is alive and well in Rand. I love it and I am extremely happy with how he is.

I second this post. I wouldn't want any other coach.

Actually I believe he is from New Hampshire, the CT attitude may have rubbed off on him during his time here.

Yeah, from what ive seen, he is extremely hard working in everything he does, but has an "edge" to him - that carries through to his players and is the system they buy into. He really stresses academics and makes sure that the kids dont slack. If they've transferred in credits from their days in juniors, you are not gonna coast - you are gonna start your MBA (or other grad level courses) and also give back to the community.

I sat at the table next to them this Saturday up in Lake placid during breakfast - nice family. The only thing id criticize was his toddler jumping around and singing to himself loudly for a couple of minutes in his NYR jersey, but i just chalk that up as a typical Rangers fan ;)

Yeah i think he was born there, but spent a lot of time in the North Haven CT area and went to college in CT

Don't know if this has been reported yet (dont see on elite prospects), but Cannon Pieper will transfer to Maine for next season.

Yes he is born and raised in New Hampshire but he has been in CT for college and professional career. That is all I meant by my statement.

That is a great move for him.

I don't see it anywhere. Tough to get playing time with so many players in front of him.

Yeah, I love the depth of this team! Kept running into people around lake placid as it is a small town and heard the news from two different people.

Rand also met with the Clifton's youngest brother who is in high school now and apparently going to be a good player. Told him to keep his grades up and he may have a spot for him at Q in a few years.

This is something for the AD and president to worry about -- I doubt the team would be distracted by this. Most of these kids will never be impacted by it.

I've heard from one inside the university source and one close source that his love of being in the same breath as schools like Yale and Harvard is not just lip service.

That doesn't surprise me in the least, and makes me wonder how they would decide. Obviously they'd love to get a bigger foothold in the Boston market, and this would give them games in Boston all year. It's an interesting call. Not sure which way I'd go on it. Would the arch-rival become UConn? That's not nearly the kind of rivalry Yale is, for a number of reasons.

Why don't you think UConn could be as great of a rivalry as Yale? Set aside 2013, Keith Allain doesn't view it as a rivalry, the Yale Alumni and students could care less about going to the games, Quinnipiac seems like the only ones that truly look at it as an absolute rivalry. Maybe I am out of touch with this but I hate Yale for many other reasons than being a Quinnipiac fan.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Maybe I missed it but I'd love to see the hit on Anas from last weekend.
