Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

How the tables have turned in 5 years. People on Twitter practically begging for Q to join HE. I'd say "no thanks" in a heartbeat if I were Rand.

Quinnipiac to Hockey East? We should do it ASAP! Play Boston College, Boston University, Providence, UConn, UMass Lowell, etc. Let’s be honest, the Ivies don’t like us. Keith Allain and Yale don’t think we are a “rival”. Play at the Boston Garden in the league playoffs.

Wow!!!

in 1995, if anyone suggested that Quinnipiac would be a perfect addition to Hockey East, they would of been sent for a drug test. Congrats to all at Quinnipiac for what has happened the last 20 years.

In the meantime, let's stop all this talk and concentrate on the next game, next period, next shift in Albany.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Wow, talk about timing. My mind should be on RIT but now this and the domino effect that could happen. For years I've wanted quinnipiac to be in hockey east for selfish reasons. I live within a short drive of 6 of the schools so I could see them all the time. The conference obviously is fantastic but the rivalries that have developed in the ECAC make my irrelevant decision tough.

Of course they have to be invited first...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

If you were to beat RIT this weekend I could definitely forgive you if you ended up getting us a spot in the ECAC...let's make a deal? :)

As long as Lahey is president of the university, i dont see it happening. scuttlebutt is that he loves the association with the academic powerhouses of the ivies, and now that the level of hockey in the ECAC is much improved, there is less reason to leave. The selfish side of me would like more TV coverage/media coverage that comes with the HEA, but i think we will be in the ECAC for the foreseeable future.

I wouldn't. Q's on top of the world right now; they should cash it in. They're a better fit for HE; they should take it while they can. The ECAC goes where the Ivies say it goes, and it's only a matter of time before they have another fit of conscience and start passing rules to hamstring the teams again. Q aint gonna like that one bit.

Take the RIT deal. :)

we cant do it before the inevitable schafer/pecknold fistfight though, can we?! ;)

Not for nothing, but is The Bank even big enough for Hockey East? I'd miss the rivalry with Yale tremendously because those are the most fun games on the Quinnipiac campus, but it's hard to say no to Hockey East.

Merrimack appears to have a building with a capacity of 2,549, but they're a bottom-feeder in the conference. The next-lowest capacity in Hockey East is Providence at 3,030. Everyone else appears to be above 4,000, with the average capacity in the league closer to 5,000. (These are just raw numbers based off a quick look). Hockey East is a terrific conference -- six teams in the NCAA Tournament is no joke. I think Quinnipiac would be an asset to Hockey East. But I also think Quinnipiac kind of fits the ECAC better from a pure hockey standpoint -- Obviously not including academics. Quinnipiac is obviously a more Hockey East-type school when it comes to University profile.

I do wonder how Lahey really feels about it. Obviously he's going to say all the right things about being in the ECAC, but I wonder if that's truly how he feels, or if Hockey East has always been our end-game. Obviously we'd lose the terrific rivalry games with Yale, but we'd gain a great foothold playing so many games in the Boston area where so many QU alums are located. It's one of those decisions where you really can't go wrong no matter what you decide.

Couldn't the Golden Domers have kept this quiet until after the Frozen Four? I sure hope all this chatter doesn't become a distraction to any of the teams still playing.

I don't think it will because I think Hockey East will wait until after the season to assess the situation unlike the Big 10 who couldn't care less about anyone else.

Notre Dame's buyout was $100k less if they did it before April 1st. I assume Arizona State jumps to Big Ten to give them 8 instead of 7. They showed they could care less about travel expenses this year

Hockey East doesn't plan on discussion on a 12th team until the offseason, per multiple sources. No one expects contraction to 10 teams.

I've heard from one inside the university source and one close source that his love of being in the same breath as schools like Yale and Harvard is not just lip service.

The Bank would be big enough for Hockey East. Its not like HE has arenas the size of North Dakota's, Minnesota, Ohio State or Wisconsin. The biggest rink in HE is the XL Center and that's really a pro rink. After that is the Mullins Center and then Conte Forum. If they made the move they would have to make the move not to be a middle of the road team but a team going head to head consistently with BC, BU, Providence and Lowell. Recruiting would need to change a tad where they would have to take more higher end players that leave after a year or 2. Its a very tough decision to make as there are pro's and con's for each way to go.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

The irony of it: A school w/ ECAC aspirations against a school whose academic/philosophical profile is more akin to that found in Hockey East

Many, if not most, ECAC fans would like to see Q Pac decamping in favor of its New England brethren and being replaced by a more compatible HC or RIT

Pecknold's classless behavior has only added to this perception

Yeah, but the B1G cares, and most of their members remember having to slog to Alaska for conference play.

I'd love it if ASU joined the B1G (all part of my cunning plan to get UNM into the ECAC before I retire...), and boy howdy do they fit the B1G factory school model.
