Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

I'm probably making more of this than I should, but ...

Rand was on Steve Somers's show on WFAN tonight, which doesn't make a lot of sense. Rand and his family were at the Isles-Lightning game. Somers had Rand talk about the game, then a few quick thoughts on QU hockey.

The interesting thing to me was when Somers asked Rand if he had been getting any attention from NHL teams. Rand refused to comment before talking about some of the previous college coaches who have gotten looks at the NHL level. I'm probably making more of that than I should, but at the least it's an interesting comment. There are a number of openings in NHL coaching ranks, and with the relative success Hakstol just had in his first season with the Flyers, it's certainly worth wondering whether one of the best coaches in the NCAA ranks could be getting attention from the NHL.

Well, for what it's worth: Bob McKenzie suggested earlier yesterday that his gut feeling is that OTT and ANA are more likely to go for an NHL vet behind the bench. Calgary is a bit more of a gray area in his opinion, although they may look at Utica's AHL coach, who is said to be considered a hot commodity. Also don't know what Minnesota might do with their coaching situation, but that isn't an opening at this time.

As you said, probably reading into it more than you should, but it wouldn't shock me if he does field a phone call or 2 either.

I have no doubt that Rand hears from NHL teams interested in his services. This game up last year or two years ago and he talked about the stability of Quinnipiac and how his "NHL coaching buddies keep telling me how great a gig I have". Rand wouldnt leave Quinnipiac unless he was offered a NHL head coaching position. It's not worth giving up $400k or whatever it is for relatively equal pay to constantly be looking over your shoulder in some random town. Remember, Rand went to college in CT. He hasn't lived anywhere else in 30 years.
