Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Wouldn't that clearly demonstrate how Yale feels about the rivalry?

Yale has nothing to gain and everything to lose. Unless we beat them in the national championship, they will forever be able to hold that over our head even when they haven't won one of the 8 games we've played since then

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Keith Allain hates Quinnipiac. He refuses to even state the name "Quinnipiac" when making any statements verbally or in print. He has not defeated QU since 2012 (except for the 2013 National Championship game). He is tired of QU dominance. Although the Yale athletic administration loves the local rivalry with overflow crowds in both New Haven and Hamden Allain would probably prefer a world where he did not have to deal with Quinnipiac. This is why QU fans are not confident that he would continue to put us on the schedule. Go Bobcats!! Beat RIT!!

You can only say that to yourself so many times after a QU game, it's getting old. If a QU fan breaks them off too hard on me though, it's pretty easy to just say 2013 :)

Yes. Yes it would. Yale/QU means more to QU people and the games have not lived up to those of say 3-5 years ago. For a season ticket holder and passionate fan, it's the least enjoyable game of the year. If we're hanging on (which there's no way we are) because of a Yale rivalry then we're stupid. If were holding on because we have a good thing going in a recently successful conference, then that makes sense.

Anyone know the official QU section numbers for Saturday Yale is in 119.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Thanks Mark Yale is actually 118-119. I had to buy a single day for Saturday due to Easter and am kind of PO'ed that they waited to release the side seats for single games until today, I am in the corner 5 rows back in 114, which isn't bad, but i should have waited, there should be room to move around though, Sunday is selling not surprisingly slowly from the looks of the Ticketmaster map.

I respectively disagree. Allnightwong, I know that you are very knowledgeable about QU hockey. I know that you are a long time fan. I believe that you used to run the QU hockey blog: From NIP to the Bank (www.quhockeyblog.com). However, the Quinnipiac/Yale rivalry is bigger than ever.

First, Quinnipiac and Yale are closely tired together by history. Judge Phillip Troup, a Yale College graduate, was one of the founders of QU and became its first president until his death in 1939. Since then QU has grown up in the shadow of Yale. QU has always looked up to Yale as a metaphorical father or older brother. Second, QU and Yale share geography. They are both on the same street, Whitney Avenue, only several miles apart. Thousands of QU students hang out around Yale's campus on a regular basis while Yalies enjoy hiking up Sleeping Giant Mountain next to the QU Mount Carmel Campus. Third, the QU/Yale rivalry hockey game has become a Quinnipiac tradition that the entire QU community is a part of. It has become a big part of the culture of the Quinnipiac academic and athletic school year. QU freshmen learn about the rivalry and how to deal with Yalies during orientation. Ultimately, the QU/Yale hockey rivalry is a major part of the Quinnipiac experience and culture. It is bigger than ever.

I went to the last RPI-QU women's playoff game and I was impressed with the hundreds of students in line hours before the doors opened for the Yale-QU men's game. It's clearly a rivalry that means a lot on York Hill and I'm not sure anything in HE would match it, including UConn-QU.

You are right. Quinnipiac should stay in the ECAC Hockey League. Most in the QU community love playing in the league. In fact, the ECAC Hockey League should stay just the way it is. It has twelve teams with a nice balance of six Ivy and six non-Ivy (all private schools). It is one of the few leagues that has not been affected by the recent realignment in college hockey. Lets keep it that way.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - The post-season journey...

Interesting report from CHN hockey writer Adam Wodon on Twitter:

People in the know seem to think QU very content in ECAC. QU president loves rubbing shoulders with the Ivies. Don’t expect HEA to pursue

I would think Hockey East might pursue Quinnipiac, but maybe QU declines. I know that Quinnipiac is trying to grow the academic profile of the school, so maybe they're hoping their academics will soon fit closer with ECAC than Hockey East, meaning they'd rather stay in ECAC. A lot of factors in this decision.

The game at the Bank is more of a social event, at least when it comes to the students. The game at Ingalls is packed but there isn't anyone lined up outside hours ahead of time. My guess is that if we weren't as successful as we've been against Yale (except for that one game in 2013) the fervor over the games wouldn't be the same.

Yes, I think Yale makes a natural rival for us but unless, and until, they acknowledge it in the same light, it's just another couple of games on the schedule and in no way should influence a decision to stay or go when it comes to a move to another conference.
