Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Not pretty at all. At the same time, it wasn't ugly either. Hat's off to OSU for stepping up their game. I think our problem was not enough gas in the tank.

Clarke was good but not great in net. Two softies and two he couldn't do anything about. The D left him hanging more than a few times tonight. Heeter on the other hand was stellar even though most of our shots that got to him were square in his chest.

We hit a couple of posts early in the game and it seemed like we started pressing after that. Of course, a lot of stupid penalties didn't help.

While we outshot the Buckeyes, we put at least as many shots into their skates or right on their sticks. A ton of shots never made it on net; those that did were for the most part easy stops for Heeter.

It's a split and I'll take it. I would have liked to see a closer, more competetive game, but it wasn't a complete meltdown so they can build on it.

The curse is off... no 11-0 start this year. They'll just have to work hard in practice and get ready for Bentley.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Yeah I agree with what you said Mark for the most part. However, I thought for a lot of the game it was pretty ugly. They couldn't muster anything offensively except for that first period explosion of shots that Heeter calmly turned away.

You're spot on about them being out of gas. I would attribute this to a CCHA team being way better conditioned than our boys. But that will come. The scary thing is I'm worried the offense may not come. It was hard to tell last night because of all the borderline and stupid penalties but it seemed like adjustments were made to the Zurvy/Jones line and with them being our only real firepower if they are shut down we are in trouble. That being said, Heichman was the MVP of the weekend with his gritty and determined play. He is a man on a mission and out there to prove something...maybe trying to earn an "A" next year (I think it's a foregone conclusion that Glaics will wear the "C"). I also think Yuri has played well, Langer will be solid this year but I'm still waiting for him to prove it. But I'm standing even taller on my stance that the game has passed Zach Hansen. He is a weak point presence and it baffles me that Rand still uses him on the PP while Dalsy and his huge shot sits on the bench...why not use a 4th forward on the PP like many teams do? The Currie/Hansen pairing had a tough night and with 3-4 scratched D-men sitting we may see a shakeup against Bentley.

Only dressing two goalies, one of which is Pat McGann, is also confusing but I guess only Rand understands that one.

So after weekend one:

Players I'm liking: Jones bros, Zurvy, Dunbar, Heichman, Yuri, Dalhuisen, Davies, Harvey, Clarke

On the fence: Glaics, Barron, Currie, Robinson, Reese, Langer, Goodman

In the Dog House: Hansen, Oakes, Arnt

Your thoughts?

Keep in mind there are several degrees of ugly. ;)

I think it was a quantity vs. quality thing.
Code:
TOTAL SHOTS ATTEMPTED 60
BLOCKED BY DEFENSE 20
SHOTS OFF TARGET 7
PIPES 1
And these numbers don't count the pass attempts that hit OSU skates or sticks. The puck handling just wasn't there last night. That I attribute to being gassed and pressing too hard.

The play of the Jones bros was clearly different from Friday and Zervy wasn't as crisp. Fatigue perhaps?

The offense will come in time. Remember it's still only been a week that they've been together running drills and plays with coaches input. They still need to develop that comfort level with thir linemates.

That being said, Heichman was the MVP of the weekend with his gritty and determined play.
It certainly seems like he's stepped up his game. Let's hope he can maintain that level of play.

Again, it's early. I'm sure Rand will tweak and adjust the special teams.

And that's the thing we all need to remember: it's week one of a long season. They had an exhibition and 5 practices leading up to the opener. I'm certain they'll settle down and step it up as the season progresses. It's way too early for any kind of panic.

Patience grasshopper. ;)

Now, about those Blackhawks...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Good start for two teams searching for good things to happen. I predict they will next play each other in 2012 in Tampa.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

So not much talk three days prior to the Bentley game. It doesn't have the same buzz as the Ohio State series but it's valued just the same. Plus to add fuel to the fire, just take a peek at the Bentley thread, (yes that's right Bentley has a thread, I swallowed my gum too). There, some illiterate fool is predicting a 3-1 win and claims that we got "crushed by Union" last postseason. Apparantly, a hard fought three game series loss to a very good Union team is getting crushed. A little crazy for a Bentley fan to be talking about someone else getting crushed (99-154-28 under Soderquist).

Whatever, I think a loss to Bentley would be awful but I don't foresee that happening. Too much talent on this roster and too little on theirs.

Any thoughts, predictions, scratches?

I agree, but they need to play the game and not look past Bentley. We've seen too many times what happens when they play down to or look past an opponent.

The next couple of games will be good for tweaking all the little things they need to get right as they head to St. Cloud and into ECAC play.

As for being "crushed by Union"... I was there for that series and it was three hard fought, well contested games. It came down to basically one goal. If that's getting crushed then so be it. I'll say this: I left Schenectady proud to be Bobcats fan!

I agree, a loss would be horrible but if i remember correctly, it was no walk in the park last year. I believe we beat them in OT on a goal by Wong

Zervy had that game winner. I think they'll be fine come Friday as long as they get the 2nd and 3rd lines sorted out because, as wonger has said, teams are going to key on Zervy, Jones and Jones.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Definitely need to sort the second line at least. Would love for Langlois to take advantage of a lesser defensive pair and impose himself. Though if not, we've had some success being a one-line team in the past.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

This week flew with Columbus Day and I couldn't be happier. More hockey tomorrow night! I think with some tough games on the horizon tomorrow and next Saturday's games against Bentley and HC are must wins. Bentley played us tough last season but should not even be considered in our stratosphere talent wise. Hopefully the boys will empty the tanks tomorrow night as it's our only game this weekend. I would agree with Quinn57 that Langer needs to emerge as a top offensive threat.

I'll go with a 4-1 Bobcat win and a fun night for all involved...except Falcon fans that is..:p

We played you better last year (3-2 OT loss), after losing 3-0 in 07-08, 6-1 in 06-07, 6-0 in 05-06, and 3-0 in 04-05. I had hoped to drive down for the game tonight, but alas must work instead. That is one fine venue that you have now for hockey just off campus; wish that we had a rink on campus. :(

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

While tonight is not a walk in the park, I think we'll see some QU offense. I'm predicting a 5-1 game with scoring from 3 lines and maybe even a hat trick! Whatever happens, I just want to see them play hard all night.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I want to say a 2-0 QU win but I don't see Clarke keeping a shutout. Lets just do 3-2 QU instead.

How about one of the Joneses, Bouharevich anddddd Oakes.
