Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

All very skilled players, no doubt, but they need to start finding the back of the net. I'd love to see all these guys hit their stride because the potential is huge!

Can we just call each other for this conversation. It's starting to become ridiculous that we are the only ones on this thread. Where is the rest of Bobcat nation? For shame...

Sad but true. :o :(

Maybe a few more wins will get 'em stirred up?

As for tonight, I think we can sneak up on SCSU and take the opener 4-3. Of course, this prediction is contingent on the offense showing up. I'll wait until after tonight's game to start thinking about tomorrow.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

In case anyone is listening, we just beat SCSU 4-2. They played a great 1st and 3rd but were dead in the 2nd. Too many penalties almost handed it to the Huskies, but 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd sealed the deal. Heichmann had a beautiful roof shot from right in front and Yuri took a shortie to the back of the net.

We played a very agressive 3rd period and it looked like the Huskies weren't expecting it nor knew what to do about it.

A huge road win against a formidable opponent... that has to be a big confidence boost. Go get 'em again tomorrow!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Great win for QU tonight, very aggressive in the third. With so many power plays, we are lucky St. Cloud did not score a higher percentage- hopefully tomorrow night there will be fewer PPs for SCSU. I went to the Yale- Brown game tonight. Yale's firepower is quite remarkable, just like last year. QU will have to play hard for a full 60 minutes next week, if we want to compete with Yale on their ice. I can't make that game.(My 45th High School Reunion) good luck to QU Sat. night. QU 3-2

Nice road win and congrats to you guys........RE Your comments on Yale.......I haven't sent in my ECAC picks yet but I am leaning on picking Union to take it all. While Yales offense is potent and will keep them at or near the top tonights goaltending stats don't lend much credibility to their ability to keep the puck out of their own net. Giving up 4 on 16 shots or whatever it was is not a great goaltending start to the season.

Good luck to you guys tomorrow night. I am up in Lake Placid with the Tupper Lake boys to see the RPI/Union and SLU/Clarkson games at the Olympic Center tomorrow.

Thanks Mike ! ;)

Yeah, but who's gonna finish 12th? :p

Unfortunately, as you noted, it's the start of their season. They'll find a way to make up for any goaltending deficencies. :(

As for Union, it sounds like thay have the complete package this year and will be a force in the ECAC for sure. I'm sure, however, that they've seen enough of UConn for the year though.

Same to you and the Saints. LP ought to be a fun time.

It was nice to see Rand play all the Minnesotans last night, including Hartzell. I was worried when I first saw him in net, but he played a very solid game. The first goal he gave up was a blast from the bottom of the circle, while the second one he probably would like back. On the video feed, it looked like he initially stopped it but then it trickled through his legs. With both goals being PPG's you can't really blame him for either.

The offense last night was impressive. They maintained possession in SCSU's end for long periods of time which surprised me. Defensively we were able to keep up with the Huskies on the large ice a whole lot better than I would have guessed.

All around a great effort and a great game by the Bobcats. If they can stay out of the box I really like our chances tonight.

For anyone interested, the B2 video feed was very good. Not sure if that's their regular offering or if it was a feed from local TV, but they had great camera angles, complete with replays, and even a PP clock onscreen.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

What a win! I couldn't watch it because I was at the Uconn football game, but what an awesome text by text play by play the talented MarkEagleUSA gave me! How about Bobby Tyson?!?! Inserted as a forward in his first game of the year and comes away with a goal and an assist. Really if you told me we'd score 4 goals at SC and non would come from the Jones/Zurvy line I'd say you were crazy but that's incredibly reassuring knowing that more people on this team can pot some goals.

Hartzell starting in goal was a shock as well but being a Minny kid, I'm thinking this was the basis for Rand starting him. It'll be interesting to see who goes tonight. Clarkie has been great so far this year but Hartz may be riding high after last night's win in front of some friends and family.

Let's go get game 2 and come home with a sweep and some great momentum heading into the ECAC opener!

Oh, and by the way, how about that Spencer Heichman and his GWG! Kid is on fire!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

WOW 4-2. Broadcasted the women's game last nite vs Cornell. Don't get me started on bad officiating. But Congrats to the men for a "big" win. Hey it is very cool to see the 3rd and 4th liners putting a few in the net and producing. That is huge especially when Zurvy and Jones are shutdown. To be honest I want SCSU to come on flying and give this QU team an early run for their money becasue they better get prepared for a Yale team that dropped 7 last nite and will do it again. I want these guys to play a Huskie team that knows if they get swept they are in trouble nationally. "Frozen Four or Bust" is a tough mentality in the WCHA. Bring it home Q...Gotta see Jones/Zurvy show up and bust down the doors tonight...Oh one more thing, is anyone absolutely pumped about Yuri and Spence...they have been so much fun to watch. Can't wait for the broadcast tonite. No prediction yet.

C'mon... it wasn't that good. :o

That's what we need. Kellen Jones had a couple of missed opportunities on an almost wide open net, and that line was getting some shots off, so it wasn't like they were stifled. Getting goals from the other lines was nice to see and something we've been waiting for since the season started.

Hartzell starting in goal was a shock as well but being a Minny kid, I'm thinking this was the basis for Rand starting him.
I heard in the pre-game that Rand wanted to give the 4 Minnesotans a chance to play in front of friends and family. There was mention about the large contingent of Arnt supporters wearing various versions of his previous jerseys. Schweizer and Sweeten were also talking about a young kid they saw in the stands who was talking about Reid Cashman being a local kid who played for the Bobcats.

Oh, and by the way, how about that Spencer Heichman and his GWG! Kid is on fire!

Yuri's shortie was pretty... as pretty as any shortie I ever saw from Atkinson or Lampe. He's been close a few times this year so it was nice to see him bury it.

Spencer's goal was hilite-worthy. I've told wonger a few times already that it's obvious Heichmann has stepped up his game in a big way. Probably as nice as his goal was his hit on one of SCSU's biggest d-men (Lauridsen 6-6 230). He's been mixing it up and getting it done at both ends of the ice.

As far as tonight goes, I'm sure we'll see a different Huskie team. Hopefully Rand and his staff will make the necessary adjustments and the guys will play hard. If they play an entire game like they skated in the 3rd last night, watch out. At the risk of sounding over-confident, I'll take QU 4-3.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

5-2 SCSU for the split. They played well in the 1st and 2nd but seemed gassed in the 3rd, taking 2 5-min majors at the end. All in all not bad considering that they found out this morning the Cory Hibbeler lost his mom sometime yesterday. I'll give them a pass for tonight because the game just seems unimportant after news like that.

Maybe I'll post more about the game later. For now I'll ask everyone to say a prayer for Cory and his family.

Yeah. It really puts the game and everything in perspective. My thoughts and prayers are with Cory at this time.

As far as on the ice a split is fine and the boys should be very happy with that. It is very reassuring that Langer finally pitted one. I think they'll be okay heading into the ECAC slate next weekend and I look forward to our short road trip to Bruno. More banter this week. Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

A split on the road in a WCHA barn with Olympic ice against a ranked opponent has to be considered a good weekend. I thought they could even sweep with the way the first 2 periods played out last night. Unfortunately in the 3rd things began to unravel and they looked gassed.

I can't comment on the 2 major penalties we took late, but it did seem like we were getting saddled with some marginal calls all weekend. To be fair, it was hard to pick up everything on the video feed and my blue and gold colored glasses may have been a bit blurry.

Clarke didn't appear to be as crisp as he's been. He'll need to work on that for the upcoming weekend because from the sounds of it, Yale is every bit as good as people think they are.

Defensively, given the larger ice, I was impressed that our guys were able to contain SCSU as well as they did. I was worried that they'd be skating by and around us all weekend, but that wasn't the case.

In my mind the only thing we're missing as a team is polish. We're not taking full advantage of our scoring chances but we're getting closer. This weekend showed that we don't need to rely on our first line.

I, too, am ready for the upcoming road trip to Brown and Yale, two really tough games to start league play.

Thoughts again to Cory Hibbeler and his family.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

For those of us who "live and die" for our favorite college hockey team, there comes a time when that is secondary. And that time came to Pioneer fans this weekend.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. — University of Denver center Jesse Martin sustained three neck fractures in Saturday night's hockey game at North Dakota and was transferred to a Minneapolis hospital this morning where doctors are deciding if emergency surgery is required to relieve swelling of the spinal cord, the player's father said.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Very happy with the split. 4-2 with only two losses coming against decent oppostion.

Spent Saturday night with a beer in hand watching my favorite band play, beer in hand from the blue line of Boardwalk Hall. Here's hoping that's not the last good time spent in that room in the next six months. Two road wins this weekend would go a long way towards making that happen.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Had a buddy call the Yale ticket office for ticks for Saturday's game. They told him they were almost sold out and have easily filled the standing room quota. Should be fun!

Anyone else making the trip to Bruno Friday night?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Hey all. I've been holding off writing a message like this because I was giving the season some time to develop and hopeful that with winning came the fans support. But after a respectable and probably over our heads start of 4-2 (two wins coming against a CCHA and a WCHA opponent) it is still Mark and myself posting on here. This is simply confusing seeing as how many people posted in previous seasons. I give Larson, Quinn57 and QUFanJim credit for sticking with us here on the forum. I understand that work and the real world have affected the likes of Zyanks and Minni but guys we are quickly turning into the Princetons of the college hockey world in terms of fan voice.

So, I did some digging and went back to that salary cap league I started last year and found some formerly frequent posters who have yet to say very much this season. What gives...RallyMonkeyTime, Mschvatz, QUBobcats70, JimRoz, Kitten? It's no surprise to me that Quinn15 no longer posts now that Lampe graduated because I am all but certain it was him or someone very close to him. But for the rest of the aforementioned, where are you all?!? If we ever want this team to turn into something more than a local flash in the pan and compete with the Yalies who are showing up in droves supporting the Bulldogs, then we need the fan support even in a down year. The funny part is this can't be considered a down year yet. Pre-season rankings and on paper aside our boys are playing well and taking wins not to mention dealing with the tragic loss of Cory Hibbeler's mom.

Come out to the games, show your support here and let's make Ingalls have that blue & gold feel that it used to have whenever we'd play there.
