Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Lets just do 3-2 QU instead.
Are you Carnac? ;)

Wasn't pretty but it was a W. The game wasn't really as close as the score but it did get interesting in the 3rd. Bentley's first goal was a deflection off Dahlhuisen with a delayed penalty call. On the ensuing PP Clarke got beat on a laser he hopefully never saw. Other that that we outplayed them for the most part.

Clay Harvey scored early on a really ugly shot that the goalie should have stopped. The second goal was a textbook tic-tac-toe to Connor Jones... it was a thing of beauty. Russ Goodman stood tall in front of the net and buried one on the PP.

Kudos to the students. A very nice, loud showing. The regular crowd wasn't too bad either.

It wasn't the offensive display I was hoping for but a win is a win.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Yeah as Mark said the score was not indicative of the game. Quinnipiac had this one in hand the whole game but was sloppy for large chunks which needs to be worked out before HC and SCSU. I thought the second period was easily the best period the team has played this year, peppering Rank with 21 shots. BUT, the first and the third were very sloppy and at times belonged to Bentley. Clarke played well and was at the short end of an errant puck that somehow found its way in. The second goal on the PP was a heck of a shot and there was nothing he could do. I thought the team as a whole played well with the exception of the Barron/Hansen D pairing. I was especially impressed with Zach Tolkinen making his Bobcat debut. The kid was big, responsible and an excellent point presence on the PP. Hopefully Rand recognizes this and plays him over the likes of Barron and Hansen. More eval during the week. Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I am alive, mid-terms in full swing, baseball playoffs, B's opening season and Phish east coast tour has thrown me away from QU hockey. After game one vs OSU, coach said need a few more practices. Got 'em played well against Bentley. Got more, interesting to see what kind of show they will put on for parent's weekend.

Not to discount HC by any means (they did tie us last year) but the boys need to use Saturday as a tuneup for 6 tough games on the road. I was hoping to see a more fluid offensive attack against Bentley and it didn't materialize. While there were signs of promise, it just wasn't quite there. Hopefully, they have found it and will show it against HC.

In addition, I feel that the defense needs to step up in a big way this year. Solid D will help Clarke get settled in and should give the offense a few more chances. I know it's only been 3 games, but it seems like they're going to need to grind it out more this year than in the past few seasons.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Good morning Bobcat fans. I don't know about you but these one game weekends just don't do it for me. I would rather our team be away for two nights, at least then it's a hockey filled weekend even if I'm attempting to go, watching over a grainy B2 feed or listening to Scweiz and Duh Duh Duh Kotsy on the air. But I digress, Saturday is not going to be an easy one, but all in all I didn't think last Friday was going to be as close as it was. Holy Cross knows how to take down a bigger team and while we are in a down year, I'd say we're still an easy favorite in this game. It should be a tough fight but I'm going with a 4-2 Bobcat victory.

It was nice to see Dalsy donated his luscious locks to Locks of Love. The article provided by QU athletics mentioned his mother succumbing to Leukemia before he enrolled his freshman year. I did not know this. Makes me like the kid even more knowing what he's gone through. I will miss seeing the long hockey hair flowing from under the helmet but knowing that he donated it to a cause that he feels strongly and passionate about makes it all okay in my book.

I think we will see Clarkie in net and why shouldn't we? He has been fine and should continue to see tons of minutes this year. I would be stunned if Rand decided to sit Tolkinen. The Frosh D-Man seemed like the real deal against the Falcons with an excellent, powerful shot on the PP.

I'll see everyone up at the Bank tomorrow for a good old fashioned afternoon contest. Any one want to continue this banter/commentary/speculation?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Saw My Morning Jacket at Terminal 5 last night and they played All Night Long. Can't see how this isn't anything but a good omen for QU. Or at least the Wolfpack/Whale.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Good morning Bobcat fans.
All 3 of us! :o We really need to work on that...

One game weekends should be against the law. Too much of a tease...

Another team that scares the bejesus out of me, but I agree we should have the upper hand. I'll take Q 5-2 (ever the optimist).

I'm pretty sure we told you about that last year, but whatever. Ask Shelby... she can fill you in on most of the details.

He certainly impressed me.

Won't come soon enough.

Since coming to QU Dalsy's been selling rubber bracelets similar to the livestrong bands except that they say livehockey and come in a variety of colors...but it all benefits cancer research in honor of his mom. You've probably seen them around...they had tables in the lobby last year and they sell them in the hockey office. It was a really popular movement for everyone to have them last season I hope the trend continues this year. :) So it comes as no surprised that he'd participate in Locks of Love too!!

GO BOBCATS (tomorrow night that is)!!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Nice fancy new USCHO site. I like it.

Sorry for the absence. Been working a lot lately and I can't sit on USCHO all day like I could at the old job. ;)

These two 1 game weekends are not the best way to start the season. Would be better served later in the year when rest becomes an issue. Tough for both the players and the fans to get into the season when we're playing a winter break type schedule.

Good road trip coming up next weekend. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I really hope that the 4:00 start and parent's weekend mean we'll have a decent crowd this afternoon. While not an easy game by any stretch, I'm still liking the Bobcat's 5-2.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Another ugly game, but another W. If they had skated the 1st and 2nd the way they did in the 3rd, it might have been 8-0. The crowd was decent (listed at 3891) but was fairly quiet. Lots of students, but not in the student section, probably contributed to that silence.

I think it's a given that the Jones' boys are the real deal. The question is who else is going to step up? Over the last 2 games, Zervy doesn't seem to be himself. Langlois is trying (maybe too hard) but hasn't had any luck yet. Somebody has to step up (and soon).

For my money, the hardest skater out there tonight (after the twins of course) was Heichmann. He seemed to be near the puck every time he was on the ice, opening the scoring with a garbage goal out in front. Yuri and Goodman were buzzing all game, and it was nice to see Glaicar get 2 helpers and the 2nd star! Mike was one of the better defensemen tonight. The other freshmen (Dunbar, Hibbeler, Tolkinen, Robinson) played well but after that nobody really stood out.

A tough 6 games on the road lie ahead with 4 of them being league contests. Nothing easy from here on out.

Bubble-licious in INCH's Power Rankings, apparently they see something more telling in our boys than I do. I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer but other than the Jones Twins and Heichman I think the team has not performed all too well. The 3-1 record may be inflated because of Bentley and HC and a major telling point will be whether we will be able to take any points away from this weekend. Time will tell but for now INCH kind of likes us.

Picked up points in the USCHO poll as well. Two points last week up to 10 this week for a 26th place showing.

This coming weekend is huge for us in a lot of ways. At a minimum we need a split.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Not quite my elaborate Bobcat update but David Marshall scored two goals and was named first star Friday night in Wheeling's win over Eric Lampe and Elmira and named second star Sunday after scoring a goal and tallying an assist in a 5-4 win over Trenton. Dan Henningson has been a mainstay on the Nailers' blue line and was a +3 in this win.

Lampe got onto the scoresheet the following night as he netted one in a 7-2 beat down of Reading and on Sunday gained third star status after netting a goal in another victory over Reading.

Wonger has been a healthy scratch for Hartford/Connecticut's last two games.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I guess this post is a bump in a sense, but I'll try to write something worthwhile.

I am very interested to see how our boys fair against a WCHA opponent who was lauded as one of the best teams in the country entering the season as well as a team who calls an olympic size sheet of ice home. A split would be excellent, I'd even settle for a tie. I am also looking forward to see how the Jones' do against a big time opponent and how our supposed future pro Zurvy does as well. Clarke has had enough exposure to top teams that he should be comfortable in net but he'll need some help. We will be outsized but we are fast. I'll say we catch SCSU off guard and take game one 4-3. But I say they'll take it to us in game two 4-2. I like the idea of taking Zurvy off the Jones line. Using all your fire power against a team like SCSU could prove disastrous. I wouldn't mind seeing Yuri or Langer play with the twins and having Heichman center Goodie and Zurvy. My line combos.

Jones/Jones/Langlois
Goodman/Heichman/Zurevinski
Rolheiser/Bouharevich/Dunbar
Robinson/Harvey/Arnt or Oakes

Dalsy/Davies
Glaciar/Currie
Tolkinen/Barron

But let's be real. We all know Rand won't scratch Hansen.

Where is everyone this year? It's been way too quiet in here.

As long as the games are close and competetive, I think the trip will be a success. I also think a split would be great and a huge confidence boost as we start league play next week.

This could work.

Hansen is one of the guys who needs to step up big time this year as he's our lone senior regular. Given a choice, I think I'd still take him over Barron at this point.

Bottom line is Zurvy, Hansen and Glaicar need to start leading by example and maybe that will ignite the rest of the guys. After the Jones' we may not have any real superstars, but there's still a lot of firepower on this team that needs to be unleashed.
