Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Rumor has it there's hockey at the Bank tonight!

Time to kick off the 2010-11 season. Tonight I'm sure we'll see Clarke in net. We'll need some stout D in front of him and some explosive offense at the other end. I'm really looking forward to seeing our #1 line.

While I know next to nothing about OSU, they've got to be in a rebuilding mode given their coaching change. Even so, they can't be taken lightly and the Bobcats are going to need to play them head to head on the ice.

I like our chances and will take Q 5-3 over the Buckeyes.

Go Q!!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Just logged onto USCHO and saw Saponari goin to BC and I think to myself this is gonna be a wild year in college hockey! Of course he has to sit out but some wild news to open up the year. Hockey is alive in Hamden. Bobcats 3-1 tonight. In chem class right now and on the way I heard a dozen or so people talkin about the game tonight. I just hope the amount of people that are talking about goin actually go. A good showing on the ice tonight will transfer into a good showing in the stands tomorrow night. Clarke will play well as will Connor Jones. Not bold predictions, but both essential for a win. I want a good round of applause for Zurvy and just a good ol' fashion loud night at the bank. I am too amped...2010-2011 season is ready to begin.

I hope this is true too Larson. My My sophomore year was the year the Bank opened midway through the season and I remember camping out for tickets at Burt Kahn very hungover and tired. If Ohio State was in the barn back then it'd be a non issue as to how many students would show up. Looking back, the main contributing factor was definitely that it was the new, cool thing to do on campus but there is no reason for a school in a fairly hockey rich area can't consistently pack the student section. I believe it will be stronger this year. People like you and Schvatz are really taking the fandom to heart that myself and only a few others had that first year and my predecesors had back at the NIP (I do miss the NIP, but that's another story). Also, having students already up on the hill living has to contribute to better turn outs. Either way, Kudos to you and yours for being an excited student body...that's refreshing. See you up there tonight. 5-4 Bobcat win.

Over/under 20 on how many Buckeye fans are in the building?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Nice way to start!

A really good game on both sides. Both teams skated hard and competed well. Clarke was fantastic in net except for his one mistake in the 3rd. Luckily, the adopted son, Spencer Heichmann, saved the day with a great display of puck control and patience.

We had a lot of chances and a lot of really good looks at the net. The power play looked good and the Jones boys are the real deal. They are going to turn some heads this season. All 4 lines competed hard all night and the defense was stout when it needed to be. A great effort by the Bobcats!

The crowd was decent too. A fairly large student turnout and the majority stayed to the end. I was impressed to see them arriving at 5:45 and running to get to their seats. Let's hope that continues all year!

Great to hear about the good start of the season. Hopefully it won't be too long before I make it down for my first game of the year.

Aw yes, I remember fondly being one of those dashing students. Now those were the days!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

You and wonger ought to team up and give a clinic on how to be a real student fan! ;)

The boys down there are doing a good job and I feel their pain only being able to get their section on their feet. But with wins comes students staying and standing the whole game.

I'm very pumped for this opening night win. Going into this weekend I would've been happy with a split so now tomorrow night is just icing on the cake in my book. Starting 2-0 would be pretty exciting given our less than stellar pre season predictions.

The Jones boys and Zurvy are going to impress all year but tonight's two unsung heroes were Spencer Heichman and Yuri Bouharevich. Both skated incredibly hard and Heichman was able to pit one on very smart and timely goal.

Dan Clarke was outstanding in net and really showed that he is the number one goalie and this is his team.

See you all tomorrow night. I personally can't wait and was very happy with the student turnout as well. Hope they come back tomorrow!

Go Q!!!

Top three seniors-to-be skaters let the team and turned pro. Top scorer Dalpe is now a 4th line center in the NHL. Since new coach took over, 4 four more have left for undisclosed reasons. The best I can put it, Buckeyes are a developing team. What they develop into remains to be seen. Nice opening W for you enemy type.

Considering Yuri hasn't played in something like 10 months, he was a man on a mission tonight. And Spencer's efforts didn't go unnoticed... he was named first star!

Hey Katzman, Both our teams got off to nice starts. Denver beat UVM 5-3 with an empty netter. The past two seasons Denver and Ohio State played home and home series so I know a bit about the Buckeyes. Nice start for the Q. I assume you'll be busy the rest of the weekend in your garage printing tickets to the Frozen Four. Enjoy your Saturday and Sunday. ;)

For what it's worth, they looked pretty good out there tonight. They at least showed some determination and had pretty good skills on the ice. I didn't notice any real deficiencies.

Nice opening W for you enemy type.
Thanks. It's always nice to get the first one under your belt!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Fun time up in the booth tonight. Must say I can't be upset with Clarke tonight, even that one he gave up. It was a snipe from one of the top Ohio scorers from last season.

Heichman's goal had everyone upstairs smiling! Gotta Love the Jones-Zurvy connection.

QBSN Article on the game.

I was close with the 3-1 prediction. Too bad Bouharevich had to hit the left post on the empty net.

4-2 Q tomorrow

Nice writeup! Glad to see you guys are rolling along this year.

And you looked very professional too!

If only he hadn't played that puck... other than that he was great. Calm and focused; seemed to see the puck really well. And... got a lot of help from the D.

Heichman's goal had everyone upstairs smiling!
I think it had that effect on everyone. :)

Gotta Love the Jones-Zurvy connection.
Did anyone else notice how many "blind" passes the brothers made to each other? They have an incredible sense of where each other is, as well as their linemates.

I caught some of the post-game with Syer and he commented that it looked like one of the brothers stole the puck off the other ones stick at one point (something that happens a lot in practice apparently).

The other thing they did a lot of last night was use their bodies. For little guys, they were laying some major league hits and showed no fear going after the body.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

it feels good to be back. real happy about the win last night.

pretty solid turnout crowd wise. i was hoping for a little more excitement in the crowd, especially in the student section. i think it was just that most of the freshman in the student section were new to the college hockey atmosphere, and probably just did not know how to conduct themselves. there is only so much attempts at starting chants we can do, but the freshman just seemed not as enthusiastic about the game. oh well, as wonger said, with more wins and solid play should come more enthusiasm and better crowds.

as far as the team went, nice all around effort. very happy with the play of the Jones twins, as was i with the play of John Dunbar. interesting front line with zurevinski and the jones twins, but that should definitely provide for some excitement this year.

clarke seemed to play pretty well also, besides misplaying the puck a couple of times. hopefully he can get off to as hot of a start as he did at the beginning of last year. if he is able to put up similar numbers, i think that this team could be set up for a very promising year.

ill try to keep up with the posting a little better now that the season has started. very pumped moving forward for the year.

as for tonight...3-1 QU!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

also, just a heads up in case some of you dont know (im sure you do though), saturday night is a big night for the students on campus to go out to new haven, so im a bit hesitant to predict a good student section tonight. even if there is a decent turnout, unfortunately most of them might be gone during the 2nd intermission and early into the 3rd period.

it sucks, but hopefully the freshman class this year will decide to stay for the whole game instead of heading out early. one can hope i guess...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

After some nice review and heavy coaching, OSU will come out a different squad tonight and will take home a split. 5-4 Buckeyes.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

The Bobcats will make adjustments as well and Clarke goes in with a ton of confidence tonight. My homer pick is Q 4-1. ;)

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Boring Saturday afternoon leads to my first Bobcat Alumni update!

Brandon Wong is now listed on the Hartford Wolfpack's roster and is listed as number 10. So after appearing as number 42 in the exhibition game it is most definitely a good sign to see Wonger with a more "stable" jersey number.

Eric Lampe who initially was signed by the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL is playing for the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL and in the preseason opener tallied a first period goal. He was a scratch in their second game.

http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=8697

Jean Marc Beaudoin is playing for the Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL and recorded an assist in their preseason tilt Thursday night.

http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=8688

In that same game former Bobcat Jamie Bates recorded a -2 night for the Las Vegas Wranglers. It comes as a surprise, in my opinion, that Bates is still at this level after having a monster season for Stockton of the ECHL last year (27/46/73 in 60 games). Hopefully he will elevate his play yet again and be called up to their parent club.

Matt Sorteberg is playing in the ECHL for the Utah Grizzlies. He seems to be providing a more physical presence for the Grizzlies as he dropped the gloves in the first period garnering a 5 minute fighting major.

http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=8691

Both David Marshall and Dan Henningson are playing for the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL and both reached the score sheet in their preseason opener. Henningson tallied a goal and an assist and Marshall an assist in their win over Cincinnati.

http://echl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=8694

Greg Holt tallied an assist and Brett Dickinson was a +2 for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the CHL in their win Thursday night. Both were held off the scoresheet in a loss Friday night.

http://www.pointstreak.com/stats/pro/boxscore.html?gameid=1422206

Reid Cashman is of course playing overseas in Austria for the EHC Linz Black Wings. They start their season tomorrow.

If anyone has any idea how Bryan Leitch is doing or if he's playing anywhere let me know.
