Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Surprised there's not more reaction to the ticket news. Maybe not enough students here, past or present.

Quite simply, I don't like it. Beyond the fact of having the actual paper ticket in hand (found both the Harvard Civic Center and Holy Cross first game at the new arena stubs while cleaning my desk this weekend) there just seem to be a lot of issues that can/will arise. Will students forgo a trip up if they're not guaranteed a free ticket? How will students react and QU respond when a busload gets up to the arena only to find there are no more free spots available. The swiping of cards going in but especially leaving the arena has the potential to cause delay initially which won't be pretty. And why stop at just two periods for point eligibility? My guess is you'll see a larger group exiting after the second than usual with no incentive at all to stay through to the end. Maybe you should get more points the longer you stay?

I will say it's great that they're making a concerted effort to get more attendance for traditionally unsupported women's games and it's always going to be difficult trying to quantify fandom but until I hear more reports about it, I'm still skeptical.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

have they said how they are going to reord how long students are at the game? will they need to swipe out when they leave?
i'm still unsure how i feel about the ticket system. especially with the whole - i'm not necessarily guaranteed i get a free ticket unless i get there early. good news though, they've filled the bank to 4100 hundred before which is about 500 standing room only tickets and i cant imagine much more than 1100 students going to the games, so getting in at al won't be an issue, except for the yale game, but whether you need to pay can be an issue.

the only good thing i definitely like about it is it guarantees students will be there. you no longer run into the issue of students getting tickets just in case, and not going, so other students who dont get tickets don't go.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

what is the new ticket policy for students?

is there some place i can read about it?

Go to post #33 of this thread by Larson. He explains it.

The idea in theory isn't a bad idea, but sounds like making a seemingly simple system overtly complicated. And it almost does come off as a sad attempt to drive attendance to the women's sports.

Great article there about the weekend. Puts a smile on my face to see they are trying to get ND here. Even better to see that Rand knows how important it is for the sophomores to be succesful. With tomorrow night just about here I want to let everyone know on the forum about another piece of history going on tomorrow night. QBSN (the student sports broadcasting network) will be having a live pregame show from 6 until 640 or so. Two seniors, Alex Birsh and Andrew Gau, are hosting. Billy Mecca will be interviewed and there will be a playing of three interviews, one with Zurvy, Seeley, and Pecknold. There is trivia going on between the periods abour WHOKY and MBB possibly MHOKY. We need contestants, Wonger and Eagle I threw your names in the hat as possible fans... Come on by tomorrow night check it out. The whole thing is on site at the bank or The Vault in the lobby next to concessions. Big weekend for the school and kids down here seem to be excited.

A nice piece in today's Register by Dave Solomon.

The Vault? Is that some new nickname for the Bank?

Real quality article by Mr. Solomon. I too am glad that Rand and the department are making strides in getting more prominant programs into the Bank. I won't call it the vault yet. I also like his recognition of the Jones' bros and Rand's mentioning of the sophomores. I see way more talent and potential is Langer, Rolheiser and Goodman rather than Arnt and Oakes but thats another story.

I don't know Larson..I tend to keep my face out of the public eye. Mark will definitely do it though...I kid. It is incredible for the QBSN and anyone involved to be able to broadcast from up at the rink and I will gladly stop by, but as far as taking part in any trivia...I may have to pass. Make sure you stop by our perch to talk lines, game plan and attendance.

Any discussion about the games this weekend? What are we looking at crowd wise/student attendance? Any injury updates no Yuri or Tolkinen? Any one wanna throw a line combo and/or a prediction out there? I personally can't wait for it all to get started. But for now I'll focus on Blackhawks @ Avs tonight.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Very nice article. Hopefully Soloman drops a few more on us during the year.

That said let's just all agree right now to never say The Vault again. Just awful.

Congrats Larson, that sounds great. I'll check out some clips on YouTube afterwards if they're available.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

"The Vault"... That's just Dave The Idiot's attempt at writing something clever.
The ticket policy is not a favorite of mine, it's tough to really want to see a lot of students go to the game knowing that it might be at my expense. We'll see if it adds incentive to attend...
Just a thought, how on earth are they going to keep track of when students leave? Does that mean you not only swipe in but also swipe out to collect points?

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

I was just as shocked...maybe he'll take over as the Bobcat beat guy as we all know it is inevitable that Chip will take over as Yale's and drop us like a bad habit.

No he won't. The Register doesn't have enough manpower/money to have two college hockey writers. Quinnipiac is a big story around here, as is Yale. Chip's the college hockey writer, and gets assigned to games by his editors. Unfortunately, sometimes both Yale and QU are home, and when that happens his editors have to decide which game is a better story for him to cover.

I'm well aware my man, just a weak, facetious attempt. I got that Journalism degree as well ;) .
