Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Don't remind me :(

...I guess it returns the favor of us sweeping you guys in the regular season last year.

No, that favor was taken care of when Quinnipiac knocked Colgate out of the playoffs last year. :D

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

With only 6 games left it's now crunch time. For anyone who thinks they have a handle on the ECAC, try this standings calculator. While a top-4 finish is attainable, it's going to take a Herculean effort by the Bobcats and a lot of help from others.

After playing around with the numbers for a while this morning, it looks to me like Cornell, Yale and Union are going to take the top 3 spots, leaving 4th place up for grabs with 4 or 5 teams having a legitimate shot at it (including us).

A finish of 5-8 is more realistic IMO. I see us needing 4 wins out of six games; 2 road splits and a sweep on senior weekend will do. At a minimum I think we need 3 wins over the right teams to even have a shot, otherwise we'll most likely be on the road for the first round.

It's going to be a nail-biting 3 weeks for sure!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Good to see Holt step up and pot one last night. On the whole I thought he had a good weekend. Shutout should help Clarke's confidence. They'll need strong outings from him if they have any chance of making noise in the postseason.

Bad weekend? Empty seats at the Bank. Watching the game last night w/ a buddy and during a wideshot of the arena was asked "Did people go to games when you went there?" Ouch.

With both games allegedly sold out, the crowd this weekend was soft. Last night it seemed like a decent "regular" crowd but a weak student turnout (and they didn't have thundersticks so they were almost silent). I guess with our recent record I can understand it, but deep down inside I really don't. :(

Let's face it... no matter how much we here lament the sparse crowds, what can any of us do about it? All I can do is show up and support this team through thick and thin, and I know a few people who feel the same way. Someday, maybe... but for now it is what it is. :o

QU really is doing themselves a disservice by announcing any game as a sellout anymore. Especially for those nationally televised games. I don't know if they keep letting people in with standing room only tickets, but by advertising the game as sold out, you're definitely discouraging people from making a game day decision to make the trip up the hill to come to a game.

Watched parts of both games. Kind of the same thing as we've seen all year. There has never really been a lack of hard effort from this team. Last night they luckily were able to break out of the slump though... at least for one night. If... and that's a BIG IF... Qu can get it rolling again, they've proven they can play at an incredible level. But, lets not get too far ahead of ourselves after just one win.

Completely agree Minni. The intensity has seemed to be there through the whole chitshow. But, let's be honest there still seemed to be that lid on the goal many times during the game last night. Luckily, Holtie came streaking down and converted a thing of beauty and Hansen finally reminded us that we do indeed have a point presence. It's one win, it's great, the monkey SHOULD be off their back but I do worry if we get behind early to a talented St. Lawrence squad if we will tighten up and start to panic again...i hope not.

Regardless, Clarke should feel great after last night's shutout. He played extremely well and earned the 26 saves. Though I'm not sold on him being our number one for years to come...he certainly is right now.

Go Q! It's amazing how a win sparks up this thread that was surely seeing the doldrums the past few weeks.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Congrats getting back into the W column. Please beat up on SLU next week so we can get a little closer to a first round bye. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I had a great time at the Bank last night. It wasn't the most scintillating game, but it's a superb venue and it is always fun to meet new ECAC people. Best of luck down the line to both Colgate and the Q, and I hope to run across all of you again soon.

All agree that the New Haven Register was wrong in saying this, not sure where they got this info.

But let's not forget that QU had almost 10,000 fans at the Bank for 4 games (MHOK-WBB-MBB-MHOK) in less than 24 hours...Not bad

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Was it just the Register saying it was sold out? Back on pg. 4 Mschatz said he received an email? Is the Register sending out emails to students re: sell outs?

I believe Mschvatz was referring to the student allottment of tickets being sold out...as I received the same email earlier in the week leading up to the game.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Thanks.

If you're nice to us the weekend after next, you can ride our coattails into 5th! :p

Hey Eagle, Thanks for the rep.

I can't quite understand your Bob Katzes right now. The team seems to have piled into a Toyota with the accelator pressed to the floor, while heading straight for the ECAC cellar. I'm really puzzled given how impressive the squad's record was through Thanksgiving. But boy oh boy, since then it's been a tough road for QU. I see you have steady diet of NY based teams for the next two weekends.

Denver finally gets to play a WCHA series at home for the first time in a month this weekend when it welcomes Minnesota to town. The Pioneers posted two shutouts against the Gophers up there early in the season with goalie Marc Cheverie playing quite well in both games....each a 3-0 win for Denver.

Looking forward to the stretch run with Minnesota and Michigan Tech coming to town this week and next. After that it's off to Mankato and then a home and home with CC to finish the regular season. I hope Denver stays on track and your boys get back on track.

Have a good rest of the week and I hope you're fully recovered from your medical odyssey from earlier this winter. :)

I just spit coffee all over my keyboard! :p

How do you think we feel?

Same to you, and yes, just about fully recovered. Thankfully, it didn't hinder my hockey attendance! :D

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I'm shamelessly campaigning to get you all to vote for Jean-Marc for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. I can't think of anyone more deserving of that award. You can vote once a day from now through March 16. One third of the final voting is weighted for fan votes. So vote for Johnny and vote every day. Go to the following link and scroll to the bottom under "hockey / vote".

Thanks Q! I've been meaning to post this myself but obviously keep forgetting. JMB is certainly worthy of the CLASS award and he definitely deserves our votes!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Well at least the monkey is off our back. Hate to see such a long loosing streak but with Colgate win we remember how to win (?) and get back on track. St. Lawrence will be a tough challenge but Clarkson looks to be a shell of prior years.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Tough weekend ahead. It's critical that we take home at least 2 points. SLU is playing extremely well so tonight's game will be a battle. Clarkson has had a lot of trouble this year but are usually tough at home. With the way the standings are we need to beat the Saints to gain any ground.

Hopefully Clarke will remain solid and give us a chance to get some offense going. It won't be easy but it's certainly doable.

Go Q!
