Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

After an long weekend in Schenectady and the trip home this morning, I now have my own conspiracy theory about the officiating this weekend...

Yes, I'm a QU homer, but there's no way anyone who saw last nights game can say it was called fairly. I think the tone was actually set during Saturday's game.

My theory is that the ECAC figured having a Capital District team go to Albany in the last year the tourney is there would be good for the league by boosting attendance and such. Therefore, Union was given a lot of latitude this weekend. Call me crazy, but think about it.

I'll be the first to admit we benefited by 2 or 3 non-calls last night but there were several instances where Union should have been in the box and nothing was called. It was as bad a homer officiating job as I've seen in this league.

Don't get me wrong, Union was the better team over the 3 games and deserved the win, but I don't think it's fair to make teams in this league battle an additional 4 people on the ice. I'll even take the bad calls, as long as there's some sense of consistency.

Mark,

No conspiracy theory.... refs in this league are awful. Do you really think Hagwell called down to Messa rink and said "screw the Q"?

Just bad refereeing. It happens, especially at this level.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I took a shot and introduced myself to Mark. I think I scared him. ;)
Scared, no... startled perhaps! I kept looking for you all weekend but never did see you again. Then again, my memory is so bad I don't remember faces all that well (unless they have long blonde hair!).

On the advice of counsel I must invoke my 5th amendment rights! :D

I know and we've seen more than enough this year. But "conspiracy theory" just sounds so much better!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Friday and Saturday I was in 7 (except for Friday's game winner... I was behind the net for that one) and was the only one wearing a white QU jersey. Last night I was down in section I with the parents. I haven't decided if I'm wearing the jersey in Albany or not...

Sometimes? :D :p My only complaint, and I've told you this before, is that your sig line is too big! ;)

Yeah, I think I definitely saw you. As for me, I'm the one wearing the maroon shirt with the big U on the front at the top center of the screen (next to the kid in the white shirt and above the kid in the white jersey) at 1:04 of this video: http://www.dailygazette.com/videos/2010/mar/15/426/

As for the sig, I can't change it now, but maybe after the season. :o

I did go back one time to look for you but wasn't successful. Other than the Q uni I'm not sure I would have recognized you again either. Maybe this weekend or next season. In either event it was a pleasure.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Before we shut the door on this thread, we should start to track the number of comments the QU board gets every season... might be interesting to see a year to year growth comparison in a few years as the program (hopefully) continues to gain notoriety and fans.

Whoever begins the off-season thread (Mark?, I default to you now a days), may want to simply post the "stat" in the first post. As of right now we are at 1488 posts.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

And speaking of the off season thread... do we wait till the NCAA tournament concludes or are we due now that the QU season is over?

I was inclined to either ride this one to completion (1000 posts) or wait until the Frozen Four is concluded.

What a weekend - Great action all weekend long

The refs were brutal last night a travesty really but its was old school hockey out there and it was fun to watch - As good a college atmosphere as you can have

It was apparent from the start that they wanted to run us out of the building - They could have been called the lumberjacks - Union was cheap and dirty - QU answered back as well

Any status on Greg Holt - shoulder injury and that was a brutal non-call

Another interesting tid bit - Pecknold headed right to the locker room didn't shake hands - I thought that to be bush league especially after the battle - It was a classic series

I'd say wait till the Frozen Four concludes, then we start the off-season thread. Would be interesting in 5 years (I assume we'll all still be here!) to see if we're in Quinnipiac 2014/15 Season Thread Part 5 Still Clawing our Way to Atlantic City... and then be able to look back and say in 2010 we only had a measly 1500 posts that season.

He was trying to get to Hicks and Wahl who were standing in front of the penalty boxes. When Rand got to center ice, they skated down towards the door to their locker room doing their best to ignore Rand. They even turned their backs on him. He probably did the right thing and headed straight to the QU locker room to cool off. Say what you want about him, but it was clear to me that he was out there sticking up for his players.

Well, unless we get some more regulars I don't think that's possible... I can't think of that much stuff to say by myself!

It would be nice if we could get a larger, dedicated fan base on here.

It'll come, even if you pick up just a few new student die hards a year. Besides, just wait till there's a real bandwagon to jump on around these parts ;)
