Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I'll echo UHM's sentiments - great series. All three (or was it 5?) games were very hard-fought and evenly-played.

You have a bright future with Clarke in net. He was excellent all weekend long and has the makings of being an elite ECAC goaltender, which is saying something significant.

I know Eagle will be there, but I hope to see some of you in Albany.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Fine season Q. Even with the mid season swoon this is exactly what we expected. AND way more than the media expected. Congrats to UC, good luck in Albany. Mark, Starless and everyone else that made this season great, thanks for showing up to the Bank wearing your Bobcat heart on your sleeve and regardless of student support, weather or the team's play ALWAYS being there. We have a fast growing fan base and a few years down the line it's going to be fun to look back to now when it was just the few of us.

I would hope this weekend gave Clarkie some huge momentum going into next year. We're losing a great senior class with some standout favorites of my own (hence the user name). They will be missed. But I'm very excited to see how this Freshman class grows and how players like Zurevinski and Bouharevich grow with more leadership and playing time coming their way. Rand is excited about next year's recruiting class and even though I think it's only about 4 kids, I have high hopes for them, especially the Jones twins.

Like Puckie said, yet another 20 win campaign...that's nothing to hang your head about.

As a lifelong Cubs fan I'll leave you with this... "Someday we'll go all the way" and "There's always next year."

See ya in Albany.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Good season, guys. If it's any consolation, at least you weren't the first to give up a playoff series to Union. :D

We look forward to seeing you guys next year, and maybe your band will come by this time around.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Over on our side of the thread and over the last two weekends a new conspiracy theory has developed.
After an long weekend in Schenectady and the trip home this morning, I now have my own conspiracy theory about the officiating this weekend...

Yes, I'm a QU homer, but there's no way anyone who saw last nights game can say it was called fairly. I think the tone was actually set during Saturday's game.

My theory is that the ECAC figured having a Capital District team go to Albany in the last year the tourney is there would be good for the league by boosting attendance and such. Therefore, Union was given a lot of latitude this weekend. Call me crazy, but think about it.

I'll be the first to admit we benefited by 2 or 3 non-calls last night but there were several instances where Union should have been in the box and nothing was called. It was as bad a homer officiating job as I've seen in this league.

Don't get me wrong, Union was the better team over the 3 games and deserved the win, but I don't think it's fair to make teams in this league battle an additional 4 people on the ice. I'll even take the bad calls, as long as there's some sense of consistency.

I'll be honest... a month ago I would have laughed at this. But I really think Clarke has found himself over the last 3 weekends. The Brown/Yale weekend was huge for us and he stood tall taking 2 wins. Last week against Dartmouth, he was the difference by keeping us in the games. I can't even begin to describe how huge that epic performance Friday night at Messa was. Even Saturday and Sunday he was good enough for the wins and kept us in both games.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing him continue his development and do hope he can become one of the elite netminders. Even with the loss of this year's seniors I think that's the only piece missing from our puzzle.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Hey guys-

Great, hard-fought, intense series. I was really impressed with Quinnipiac and you could tell how much both teams wanted it. The officiating was beyond miserable (especially Hicks) but I guess both sides weren't happy with that. Anyway, I was really impressed with Wong, Holt, the little guy (Heichman), Clarke, and others. I can tell Lampe is good but I have to be honest with you when I say that I really don't like the way he plays (but I won't go into it further than that).

Can't say any more. I have absolutely zero problems with the Quinnipiac fan base (I was just as excited as the next guy when they reached #4 in the polls) and I was happy to see a solid number of you make it up to Schenectady this weekend. Tonight's atmosphere was pretty crazy.

Anyway, will any of you be in Albany next weekend despite Q not making it?

I'm glad you agree on the officiating. It definitely was miserable for both teams. Glad to see you liked our players :) They do work hard.
And I know exactly what you mean by Lampe, but we won't go into that :p

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I realize we're awhile from the 2010/11 schedule being released, but what's our out of conference schedule shaping up to look like? I know in past years, we've had a pretty good idea of our non conference opponents way in advance.

If I remember correctly, we've got OSU for 2 at home and we're going to St. Cloud for 2. Not sure on the rest. The banquet is coming up in a few weeks and Rand usually mentions the upcoming schedule... I'll keep my ears open.

If the league really wanted to tamper with attendance in Albany, I would expect them to do exactly the opposite. A miserable turnout in Albany this year would be exactly the justification they were looking for in moving the tournament to AC. A big draw this year coupled with poor turnout in AC next season would be egg on Hagwell's face.

Maybe, maybe not. It's all about the bottom line, regardless of the venue.

Besides, it's my conspiracy theory! No need to punch it full of holes! :p :D

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I haven't yet posted on the Union thread as I'm still a bit stunned by the weekend's developments. However, I did want to pay tribute to the Qpac team and community. Both teams left it all out on the ice in 3 or should I say 5 1/2 games that really could have gone either way. Qpac in particular must have been physically drained after a trying week, yet they played a first period in particular with tremendous drive and energy. I was also happy at the end of the game to see the players really take time to shake hands and speak with each other while passing through the line. I think they respect each other as worthy adversaries. The faithful will have a lot of good days ahead.

There were a few RPI fans (I not among them) that subscribed to that theory after the ridiculous refereeing job in Game 3 against the Goon Squad, but Union moving onto Albany punches some holes in that one.

So it's entirely possible that there was no conspiracy theory and the referees just suck. I'm going with that one. :p

vs. Nebraska-Omaha (2)
at St. Cloud (2)
vs. Bentley
vs. Holy Cross
at UMass
at Providence
at Canisius (2)

Thanks Who... the same to the Union fans. I was especially impressed with the student section and the support they showed all weekend. There's only 2 complaints I have, and both concern Friday night. First, the concession stand closed and remained closed after the 3rd period. I understand the thinking, but there were a lot of thirsty fans there by 1 am! Second was the Union band packing up and leaving after the first(?) OT.

From what I heard from some of the parents, they were. Emotionally too which didn't help.

I was also happy at the end of the game to see the players really take time to shake hands and speak with each other while passing through the line. I think they respect each other as worthy adversaries.
I noticed several Q players skating around in shock, some still sitting on the bench when one of our assistant captains, Mike Atkinson (16), started to round them up for the handshake. I thought that was classy on his part and very telling of the type of kid he is.

I have to admit that I walked by the student section several times with my jersey on and never got harrassed. Never even heard a bad comment or remark from anyone all weekend. And it was nice of you to go out of your way to come over and say hello on Friday.

The faithful will have a lot of good days ahead.
For both teams I'm sure!

I didn't harass anyone wearing Quinnipiac gear just because I thought there was a chance it would be MarkEagleUSA from the USCHO boards! :)

In all seriousness though, I was very impressed with the students, especially on Sunday night. On Sunday, I arrived at the game at 5:55 and I was the only one in the student section. At 6:10, a few more students sauntered in. By 6:35, there were still only a handful of students there. I was starting to get worried. By 7:05 though, it was absolutely packed. The center aisle (which is supposed to be for the stairs) was completely full. Also, I usually have to yell at people and beg people to stand...Not for this series. Everyone participated in the chants...It was great.

I walked by section 7 a few times and glanced up but I didn't want to be awkwardly standing at the front of the section looking up asking, "Who's Mark?" However, you probably saw me and I probably saw you. Anyway, maybe I'll run into you in Albany. Even though I may sometimes come across as somewhat of a jerk on the boards, I'm a pretty nice guy in person. :)

I took a shot and introduced myself to Mark. I think I scared him. ;)

Friday and Saturday I was in 7 (except for Friday's game winner... I was behind the net for that one) and was the only one wearing a white QU jersey. Last night I was down in section I with the parents. I haven't decided if I'm wearing the jersey in Albany or not...

Sometimes? :D :p My only complaint, and I've told you this before, is that your sig line is too big! ;)
