Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Wow! I still can't believe it. Incredible experience to say the least.

On to tonight... does anyone have anything left? From an emotional point of view I'd guess we have a distinct advantage with momentum. We're still going to need to gut it out because Union is a very good and dangerous team. We'll need a complete effort for sure.

Go Q!

As I said to a friend last night -- this is the playoffs, last night doesn't matter anymore. Union's going to be fighting to save its season, so Quinnipiac better be ready.

Conventional wisdom says Union must be cooked. But this is the playoffs, where conventional wisdom gets thrown out the window.

Un-bel-iev-a-ble

That's all I have to say. That game was amazing. Great play by Clarke, he fought hard all night. Granted the two goals he did let in were bad, but he didn't falter the rest of the night.
Tremendous effort by all the players, they never gave up and that was by the far the best defensive game I have ever seen.
To be fair Union never gave up either, but we weren't letting anything in on us.
I can't wait to see what tonight will bring (though i'm rooting for a second W)!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Man who was that ugly guy behind the net anyway???? He looked like a jumping jack on crack!!!!!!!! :D
I seem to recall a certain clip of a guy in red who looked the same! :p

If you look closely we seem to react before the goal light went on... that poor goal judge must've been asleep (or in denial)! :D

He also looked famished but pretty happy.
I've got another 5 hrs to enjoy the moment then it's time to put the game face back on!

Very awesome. Hopefully QU will finish it up tonight and we can plan our second trip to Albany in 3 years.

Talk about a week of national recognition by QU. First the men's basketball team loses a thriller on ESPN 2 and now QU hockey gets front page play on ESPN.com.

I feel bad for student media -- it all happens during spring break.

Most reporters aren't as dedicated as I was... many who would have covered this may not have.

We've got a photographer traveling with our crew :)

So not a stellar performance tonight by the Q, but I definitely think the refs tossed that game out the door for us.
As I texted a friend "we scored, the refs called it off, we got a bogus penalty, and union scores leaving us down 1 to 0 five minutes into the game" and so went the rest of the game...
I'll admit Clarke gave in bad goals, but the refs weren't doing anything to help us. Terrible calls, or rather a great lack thereof.
-sigh- We need to bring the fire and blow in Union's doors tomorrow!

That sequence of events certainly set the tone it seemed. I thought we came out a bit more lively than U did. They looked really sluggish at the start. The wave off and subsequent score seemed to give them a boost.

Overall I thought we played well but couldn't catch a break. A few questionable calls led to Union getting the upper hand and ultimately the game. By the 3rd it seemed we were running out of gas and, of course, time.

It's early... everyone rest up and get ready for a barn burner tomorrow. Whoever wants it most is going to win it.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I try to never say anything negative about anything if I can help it, just try to focus on the positive. That's just the way I am. But the refereeing last night STUNK! Hicks is the worst ref in the ECAC, maybe in all of college hockey.

OK, got that off my chest. On to game three. Five of us from the B School driving back up for the game and will join the other Bobcat faithful to cheer on the guys. I haven't made a prediction about a game outcome since I predicted the two victories over OSU at the beginning of the season. But I have a feeling about tonight.... 3 - 2 for QU.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Another day, another game. They need to come out strong at the drop of the puck and set the tone. For the seniors, this may be it, so I expect them to lead the way. They've played well all weekend and know what's required to win.

The season is now one game. This team has experienced highs and lows along the way. A trip to Albany is within reach. Go out and get it done!

Go Q!

Over on our side of the thread and over the last two weekends a new conspiracy theory has developed. I'm sure it's subliminal and not true but the theory is in the playoffs the refs are paid on a per game basis...AND....therefore, submliminally do what they can to make the series go three to get an extra paycheck.

I'm sure it's a lot of malarkey but I would be interested to know if they are really paid by the series or by the game. Either way has it's faults as I suppose if they were paid by the series they would try to end it in two!!!

I can tell you one thing that is universal in the ECAC and that is questionable officiating. Last weekend at home we had Murphy and for the first two games we thought he had a rotator cuff injury and couldn't raise his arm in spite of mayhem and havoc happening under his nose. This weekend we had Kotyra and Whittemore who had a contest last night to see who could call more hooking penalties. If it's the ECAC the universal axiom is the officiating will be bad. The best we can hope for is that it is consistent so the players can maybe adjust to what the calls are.

Good luck tonight against Union but I know one thing for sure.......we DO NOT want our match up in Albany to be agianst you guys. Of all the remaining teams we match up the worst against you for a variety of reasons I won't go into here.

Consistent and ECAC officiating do not go together. If it's so frustrating for us fans, I can't imagine what it's like for the guys on the ice. It's also extremely difficult to play the opposition in addition to those guys in striped shirts.

Good luck tonight against Union
Thanks Mike. We could use all the luck we can get tonight.

All the more reason we need to go out and win tonight! ;)
