Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

What an atmosphere in The Bank, tonight. It's hard to tell for sure, but I think tonight's atmosphere for the basketball game was louder than any atmosphere for a hockey game -- even the Yale game -- ever.
It. Was. Awesome.

I hate to admit it, but it probably was better than a Yale game. Just an incredible amount of energy in the Bank last night.

Yeah there was never a Yale game with that atmosphere. It was quite fun to get back into the student section and feel that real college basketball atmosphere for the first time at the Q. It has to be said however, that basketball is a sport that lends itself to creating that type of atmosphere. Most of the time at the hockey games, being behind the glass, in a larger venus (size wise) the sound gets lost. Not to mention in the larger venue (seating capacity), basketball packed in a ton of people. As far as the students it was only a matter of success in terms of getting them to come out. Basketball, especially in the mid atlantic states where many of our students come from is way more prevalent and popular than hockey. AND we live in Connecticut where the general public is much more familiar with Maya Moore and Stanley Robinson than Andrew Olsen and Dave Jarman (don't know who they are...top scorers for Uconn and SHU men's ice hockey teams).

Hopefully, "even in defeat" (quoting Dave Soloman, yikes) this will springboard the bball team's attendance and make it harder to get a ticket to every one of their games.

Oh well, on to hockey! Go get them in Schenedtedyeksdjeyshkeee.

It is very true that more people are more familiar with basketball than hockey, but the other thing I've pointed out to a few people, that sadly was not seen very much last night other than when Jeremy Baker pumped up the student section before tip off, is that team plays for their fans. You go to a men's basketball game and you know that the players and Tom Moore are gonna say thank you for coming, and towards the end of the season the players were rushing the student section after a win.
There has been a ton of Facebook support for all the winter sports teams - but everybody has really shown support for basketball because they have been playing so well and that added aspect of you reallllly feel like the 6th man.

And what's even a little more sad is that last night there were only 3600 people where at the Yale game there were 4200 and it was louder last night :/

Well the listed seating capacity of the basketball arena is 3570. So I do not believe the 3600 number was taking into account the hundreds of standees. The Yale total is taking into account over 1000 standees.

Regardless, you're definitely correct in the pure loudness, vibrate to your core volume of the arena trumping that of most hockey games.

I agree. I'm not sure why, but they definitely undersold the attendance -- there were 100's of people standing around, and very, very few seats empty. it looked like at least 4,000...

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

This should be a barn burner this weekend - I think the Q has a great shot - Teams after a week layoff always struggle early - Game one is huge

The two teams hate each other so it should be a fun series - Not a bad trip so get out and support the 'Cats!

Eliminate the dumb plays and take care of business - Nice to see Ketchum get a chance last week - he played with passion - No soft goals or turnovers in our zone - D is key make the simple play and stay aggressive - The Senior Group is experienced and I look for them to carry the play and come up big!

QU 3 - Union - 2
Union - 4 QU - 2
QU - 4 Union - 2

Back in Albany on Friday!! LETS GO Q!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Well, here we are about to enter the quarterfinals for the 5th time in as many years of ECAC play, and nobody has anything to say? :(

Starless and I are making the trip and will be doing our best to rep the Q. I hope there's a decent turnout of blue and gold to help us cheer the guys on.

To be successful this weekend, Clarke has got to be stout, and the defense will need to be solid in front of him. We'll also need some offensive power and hopefully the seniors can provide the necessary spark.

Between the Brown/Yale weekend and the Dartmouth series, we should have some momentum. Union has been idle for 2 weeks... they'll be rested but maybe a bit rusty. The guys just need to be focused and play hard, leaving it all on the ice.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

To be honest, I think this is my favorite matchup out of any of them.

Yale, because of the rivalry, would have been interesting, but Cornell's just awesome and Colgate plays in an always-empty barn. Union has never EVER gotten to Albany. Don't discount the pressure that brings with it. I'm not saying I think QU is going to definitely win, but I think they have as good a chance as any to win the series.

I think this is why we'll see a barn-burner of a series. Perhaps not a ton of scoring, but intense, exciting hockey. Union really wants to get past this round (at least I want them to), so I expect them to come out fighting, scratching, and clawing for every loose puck.

Good luck!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Got back from the BU-Merrimack game about 45 minutes ago...imagine my surprise to see this one isn't done yet.

Going into the 4th OT yikes...and they have to play tomorrow. should be a doozy no matter the outcome.

go bobcats!!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

It's 12:50 am and I'm listening to this great game online from Ottawa. We'll be driving to Schenectady tomorrow (I mean today) and will be there for game two (maybe still game one!!!!) Saturday night. I just hope the terrible refereeing in this game doesn't determine the final result.

Go Q!
