Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

They were outplayed by an obviously less talented team and if not for the power play goals would have been in overtime. The seniors stepped up when they had to, but the entire team needs to put together a game if they want to keep this to two games.
You're right... we need to bring our A-game tonight, but I wouldn't say we were outplayed as much as we just didn't play hard all game.

Tonight needs to be a dedicated effort from the drop of the puck. Dartmouth will be hungry for a win to force game 3 and we need to be ready for that.

Last night Rand spoke in the post-game about nerves. Well, there's no reason to be nervous tonight... just go out and get it done.

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

It just seems to me that there is not a huge following of local hockey fans for the Bobcats, everything is in place for some good crowds. I may be a sceptic, but I think the arena is just to much of a PITA to get to to become a draw for local hockey fans. Q's overhead there has to be enormous, there were more cops and security than Dartmouth fans tonight. $15 playoff tickets do not help either, and they would not sell me standing room because seats were available:mad: I stood the whole game anyway.

It may be a case of some bandwagoning. I think the local fans are still very skeptical after Q's abysmal run. When they were 12-1 the place was packed all around. It's almost like the team needs to earn back the locals.

I agree with what others have posted........I'm up in Canton for the SLU v. Clarkson game and there were empty seats at Appleton last night in spite of the supposed sell out. I think the sell out meant that all the available tickets were indeed sold but the fact the students are on break....I don't think they re-sell those seats set aside for the students.
Frankly I was sort of shocked as with this rivalry it was the least electric crowd I have ever experienced at a SLU/Clarkson game. Normally the place is electric.
Having been to so many Q games this year their barn is exactly the same when the students are or aren't there.

By the by I had to pay $15 during the regular season to get in so I don't think the prices went up. The ticket office stopped selling the standing room seats this year and only sells them if it is a sellout. I guess too many people (like you and me) were walking up, buying standing room for cheap when more expensive seats were available. Fortunately for me a good friend who posts here regularly has been kind enough to offer me extra tickets when he has them so I haven't had to pay for one there in quite some time!!! (Thanks Mark ;) )

As for Q drawing a following you have to consider how long Yale has been playing in the ECAC and at D-1. As a hockey fan I am truly amazed at how ALL the D-1 barns (with some notable exceptions like Lynah) how few local's go and support the teams or really even know about it. Ever been to Meehan?? You have your choice of seats. Same at Starr in Hamilton. Union used to be the same although not as extreme but as their teams have gotten more competitive so have the crowds.

When one considers how much it costs to go to a movie you would think a college hockey game would be an entertaining option. But....if in a city the size of Providence you can go to an arena and probably get to know everyone in the crowd on a first name basis then the problem isn't just at Q, its everywhere.

There's also so much to do on weekends, in this part of the nation. What else are you going to do in North Dakota on a friday night? We're an hour away from NYC, and New Haven is a fairly hopping town 15 minutes away from Hamden. Same in Providence -- it's not a huge town, but there are many other options, some of which you don't get in other parts of the nation where college hockey draws 15,000 a game.

Hey Hot Dog without the mustard guy..........while what you say is very true, in towns like Canton, Potsdam and Hamilton the hockey game IS the only thing to do in town and there is no other option!!!!! :D

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Apparently the students aren't the only ones on break! :o

We looked terrible tonight. Hansen and Currie were out with injuries and it really showed defensively. Clarke wasn't bad but wasn't good either. Offense was almost non-existant, or at least couldn't really put anything together. For as good as we were last weekend, we had nothing tonight (and really last night as well).

On the other hand, Dartmouth had to come out aggressive and take it to us since they had their backs to the wall. They played well and took advantage of their opportunities; we didn't.

It now comes down to one game... 60 minutes to determine whether the season continues or not. I hope the seniors can pull it together and rally the troops for tomorrow night. It's do or die.

Anytime Mike! You add something to the Bank, especially when you wear gold and blue! :D

I know your heart is with SLU but you're a class act and a true hockey fan! As I've said before, your unbiased opinions and comments are much appreciated by at least of few of us. ;)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Yeah, that wasn't much fun.

4 good shifts, 6 bad shifts. 2 good shifts, 5 bad shifts.

Forget being consistent over a season or even a game, they need to be consistent over a period.

Look, this team is young. They started out of their minds, but really weren't as good as that. Now they've been bad, but they're really not as bad as they've been.

Who knows. It's been an interesting season, tomorrow should be fun.

This team, to me, was in a rebuilding year this year. I shudder to think about how good they'll be in 2 years when these kids are peaking as juniors and seniors. Cause they've got plenty of potential.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I hate to say this because it's such a cliche, but tonight could be the last game for our seniors. Beaudoin, Atkinson and Wong, as the guys wearing the letters, need to step up and carry this team. Lampe and Holt need to go out and leave everything they've got on the ice. The rest of the team needs to gut it out and play their best to support those five upperclassmen.

I see that today's paper has Hansen and Currie listed as "questionable" for tonight. If just one of them dresses and plays well, I think it helps us immensely. We know Dartmouth isn't going to roll over for game 3. It will take a total effort and we've done it before.

Maybe I'm being a bit selfish, but I really want to travel somewhere next weekend and watch the Bobcats play another series. The only way I can do that is for them to win tonight. How 'bout it, guys?

Go Q!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I will be there tonight. Hope the Q's season continues.
Who took the hit while making the rush across Dartmouth's blue line in the third period Friday night. I did not get the kids Jersey number and was surprised he made it back on his feet. One of the hardest open ice hits I have seen. Just wondering if he was one of the ones marked as injured?

Yeah, that was a really good shoulder hit. Not sure who it was, but those two were hurt on Friday, I believe.

That might have been Hansen but I honestly don't recall. I know Currie took a shot off the glove of his bad hand injured earlier this year. We saw him on the bench late Friday with an ice pack on it. The problem with not having these two in the lineup is that it forces us to put a forward back on D (last night it was Holt), and that drastically changes the offensive lines.

While that's not an excuse for the way we played last night, it was a facor. If faced with the same situation tonight, they're just going to have to figure out a way to play through it. There is no tomorrow for tonights loser.

If it's the hit I'm thinking of it couldn't have been Hansen or Currie fore neither of them played. I saw Heichman, Holt and Harvey get nailed each around the blue line. Dartmouth played hard last night and relatively clean which is a tribute to them.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I just refreshed my memory by taking a look at q's lineup. The guy who took the shot on Friday night was Arnt, tough kid, he really got his bell rung.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

I'll be there tonight. It troubles me to say, but Zurevinski has the most impressive Q player I've seen this year--really a complete player. He's got to have a big game tonight.

I'll swing by and say hello, if you're at your usual perch.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Yes!!! We live to play another week!

First off, hat's off to Dartmouth for a great effort. They played 3 really solid games and have nothing to be ashamed of. I was most impressed by their composure and the fact that they took very few penalties all weekend.

For Quinnipiac, it wasn't a great effort tonight, but one that got the job done. Clarke was almost perfect in net and was the difference in the game, especially over the final 5 minutes. Currie was obviously playing hurt, but it really helped the rest of the lines. The entire team seemed to keep their heads in the game and played hard.

Nice job this weekend, guys! Time to get ready for Union!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 09-10: Part II

Nice hard nosed win for Q. Clarke played exceptionally well. I think I heard the Dartmouth goalies groin tear from the concourse, how about getting a series winning goal as your first career score.
