Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

LaPlante can play. He has a historic .925 saves % and has been at 2.0 or less GPG. Not that is not NCAA proven but Coach thinks VERY highly of him.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Kyle Murphy has chosen Providence. Younger brother of BC's Ryan and Justin. Didn't play much at Notre Dame freshman year, played for Vernon last year.

Must be the player to be named later in the Lavin deal:D

Actually played very little his sophomore year at ND, did not play at all his freshman year. So all we have him for is 2 years. His college eligibility clock started tlcking in Sept '08.

Like Demopoulos he has a Shattack background which ties back to Barr's background. I knew they had their eye on him a long time but figured when they got Mauermann this fell through

Just read that 2013 recruit Anthony Florentino was offered a spot in US National Development program - but he has it turned it down to stay at South Kent. He 's shaping up to be very gopof player. Look forward to seeing him in few years in a Friar uniform.

i am thinking about going to the alumni game on Saturday to kill a little time. Just wondering if anyone has been in recent years and is it worth my time going?

Re: From the Projo - July 28, 2011

From USHR: Immediate Help for Friars
6’1”, 180 lb. Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) LC Matt Montesano, who was scheduled to play for the Sioux Musketeers (USHL) in the upcoming season, will instead be heading directly to Providence College.

A 4/1/91 birthdate from West Bridgewater, Mass., Montesano played at BC High and then the Boston Advantage Midget AAA program before going to the Alberta Junior Hockey League last season. In 67 games with Bonnyville, Montesano had a 27-36-63 line.

Re: From the Projo - July 28, 2011

2 months till the opening faceoff. I am excited about all the new faces coming in this season. Does anyone believe the upswing will start this season with at least a spot in the hockey east playoffs? Or should we be looking a little further into the future for the results to get better?

Re: From the Projo - July 28, 2011

I don't expect a big change in positioning but rather a big change in how they play the game...... I expect a team that is more together with more heart and one that will attack the opposition and hit hard and give 100% every shift of every game......in another year then I will look for positional inprovements

Re: From the Projo - July 28, 2011

i hope the team is more discciplined this season. To me they could at least hang with most conference teams until shorthanded or even 4 on 4 they would struggle. That was the most frustrating thing to me the last 2 seasons was the penalties.

As a long time RPI/college hockey fan living in the capital district who saw Leaman coach I can assure you that your team will learn in short order to play hard and play smart. Slow learners and screwballs will have two choices shape up or ship out.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Don't know how many of you guys got this email the other day regarding the recent Golf outing - but for those who didn't I thought I post it. Really like the fact that the coach reaches out like this..

Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Men’s Ice Hockey Program, I would like to thank you for your support of the Providence Men’s Ice Hockey Golf Outing and Alumni Game. It was a terrific weekend and great to see so many former alumni reacquainted. Once again a huge thanks to our title sponsor- Shawmut Construction -and to Joe Hulbig and Jennifer Cunningham for leading the organization of the events. Thanks to your support of the weekend events, we have raised a record high at this year’s golf outing: $25,000. I have included a link below of photos from the golf tournament and alumni game. The money raised from the weekend will support 2 areas for the program.

1. A new video area/Lounge attached to the men’s locker room.. The video editing technology allows the players to watch any shift, scoring chance, face, shot ect. throughout the season just by a push of a button. These computers will be attached to two flat screen TV’s in a newly formed players lounge.

2. Protein shakes for the team after every practice. The player’s schedules often do not allow them to receive proper nutrition every day after morning lifts, or afternoon practices. The shakes will allow the players to gain carbohydrates and protein in their bodies, thus helping the players to maintain their strength and weight over the course of the season.

Over the weekend we tried to gain contact information from each of you in order to stay in touch throughout the season as well as let you know of any upcoming events. It is also important that if you know of anyone who could not attend the events but would like to stay in contact with the program, if you could pass along their email address as well, that would be terrific.

Our staff is very excited for the season which is right around the corner. The players return for classes on September 6th and we will begin as a team later that evening with our opening meeting.

I have listed some of our future events below, including opening night verse Boston University October 14th which we have properly named Mission 3,000 – as we want the house packed with 3,000 fans. I hope to see all of you there and feel free to reach out anytime.
