Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Northeastern came out with their roster today. I am curious as to when Providence releases their's.

Been tied up with other issues but I've heard we have another kid we just picked up. Also Ferullo is off the roster.

Thanks cav, do u have name on the new kid yet? I would assume its a forward seeing we are overloaded on defense.

According to Projo.com PC has given the hockey guy a two year extension - through "the 2017-18 academic year." Yikes! The article quotes Father Shanley as saying, "Our department has seen unprecedented growth under the direction of Bob Driscoll.''

Draw your own conclusion about Driscoll's 10 years at the helm of PC athletics.

Well, if the new coach helps then its an improvement, but then again there is no where to go but up.

Well you have to admit we have never spent so much time in criminal court as we have with him in charge......thats growth !!!

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

The fact that Bob got an extension is pathetic. Fr. Shanley clearly hasn't paid attention to the disgrace that PC's main sports have become in recent years both on and off the playing surface.

Bob is slippery and apparently bomb proof.
Way to work Bob!

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Congrats to Max. I haven't seen him play in a few years. I saw him play his first year in the Bandits program for the Empire team. He was a pretty good player then, he was young for that team and developed as the year went along. He played on a line with Derek DeBlois who's now at Michigan. I'll be curious to see how he's progressed, he was a good scorer then, good hands, good skater and was willing to play physical as well. Have to give him credit for realizing he needed to take the time off to focus on his studies to have a chance to play at the college level. Shows that hes a mature kid and that this is important to him so if anything he'll probably really work to compete.

Can't wait to see the roster, I have to imagine there are several guys in addition to the seniors that graduated that arent returning. Be curious to see who they are. Food for thought, seems like Leaman has brought in over 10 recruits since he took the job, vastly more than I can ever remember Army signing during any similar stretch. Any thoughts on why that is, whether its just Leaman is a better recruiter or he's taking the low hanging fruit, which i dont think is the case it seems like all these kids come well regarded.

Perhaps he is trying to improve his team.

ok funny guy, sorry the question really wasnt why it was more of a how has he managed to do it when army couldnt and that was why i asked the second part is are these kids considered to be top type talent, which some of them seem to be from what I read, versus the low hanging fruit of overreaching for kids thinking they can play in hockeyeast, which seems to have been the case over the past few years. Just curious if anyone has any insight on how leaman has been able to do this versus army because the only real change is the coaching staff. You still have the same ad in the background and the same president at the school and really no new upgrades to the rink, which was another one of the things i had always heard hurt them in recruiting. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they are signing guys, i hope they all work out and PC hockey gets back to the level that it belongs.

Clark Donatelli, a volunteer assistant with Providence last season, is now an assistant coach for the ECHL Wheeling Nailers, a Pittsburgh affiliate.

So this year will be a start and next year a big push with some heavy hitters added

Re: From the Projo - July 28, 2011

Players did not relate to TA very well and from everything I hear Coach Leaman is well liked, has lots of contacts and works his tail off.

3 players not returning that I know about - Ferullo, Landman and Jamnick. Roster will be released when walk ons are evaluated.

Saw that Kyle Mackinnon is on the roster for Bruins camp. Also Taormina, Fayne, and Leach in Devils camp, and Jon Rheault is with Flames in camp. Looks like Fernando Pisani's NHL career may be coming to end - he is still unsigned as NHL camps open.
